Chapter 351: A date with Roxanne, this time… the right way
The sun was about to set, but it remained strong over Cinderella Castle, reflecting off the golden roofs and the euphoric smiles of the families around it. The air was filled with cheerful music, the smell of buttered popcorn and cotton candy… and in the midst of it all, like a painting misplaced from a dark gallery —

Vergil stood with a pair of black Mickey ears on his head. Impassive. Impeccable. And utterly out of place.

Next to him, Roxenne laughed so hard she almost doubled over, holding her stomach.

“You look like… a fairy tale villain who got lost on a school trip!” she said, still laughing. “This is bringing me to life!”

Vergil glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, serious.

“You made me wear this.”

“Yes. And you let me. That’s what love is.” Roxenne pulled his arm hard. “Come on! There’s a huge line for Space Mountain, and if we use your demonic charm again to cut in, they’ll probably call the FBI this time.”

“I didn’t use demonic charm,” he grumbled. “I used a low-scale illusory distraction.”

“You made Donald Duck dance the lambada with Darth Vader.”

“It worked.”

She laughed again. With every step beside him, Roxenne seemed lighter—no claws, no eyes glowing with anger, no bloody plans or secret schemes. Just a girl in love holding the hand of the sullen idiot who, against all odds, had chosen to spend the day with her in a park full of people dressed as princesses.

And the strangest thing?

Vergil didn’t seem to hate it.

They ate Mickey-shaped ice cream. They took selfies with Goofy. Roxenne tried to put a witch’s hat on him in the Fantasyland gift shop and got a death stare that only made her laugh harder.

“You know I needed this, right?” she said suddenly, when they sat down in a more secluded corner near the lake, where the sun reflected calmly on the artificial waters.

“Did you need to see me humiliated?” he replied, without opening his eyes, leaning back on the wooden bench with his arms crossed.

“No. I needed to remember that… you’re still here. You’ve been a little too serious lately, you know?”

Vergil opened one eye, slowly turning his face toward her.

Roxenne looked away, as if she had said too much. But he just took a deep breath. And, in a surprising gesture, he rested his head on her shoulder.

Silence.

Only the distant sound of fireworks announcing the start of the parade.

“You don’t have to worry,” he murmured, almost inaudibly. “I’ll put those things aside and focus on us.”

She smiled. A genuine smile, without fangs, without sarcasm. Just her.

“That was corny.”

“It was.”

“…But I loved it.”

She intertwined her fingers with his.

The silence between them was comfortable, almost sacred — the kind of moment that seemed to slip through the fingers of people like them, always so wrapped up in shadows, pacts, and tied destinies. But then…

“WHAT IS THAT?!”

The scream was loud enough to scare two Japanese tourists passing by with maps in their hands. Vergil straightened his posture in a subtle startle, instinctively prepared for an ambush, but found only Roxenne… staring at a candy display case as if she had just seen a dragon covered in whipped cream.

She stood up as if summoned by a higher power. Her eyes were wide, shining as if she had seen a sacred artifact forgotten by the gods.

“Vergil, are you seeing this?! Look at this thing! It’s like… a DONUT… filled with COTTON CANDY ICE CREAM… and covered with fluorescent pink syrup and edible glitter. My God. MY GOD. This is literally a glucose delirium materialized!”

Vergil raised an eyebrow, still sitting on the bench. “It’s a biological weapon.”

“It’s a HEAVENLY BLESSING,” she corrected, already marching toward the stand like a paladin on a divine mission.

In seconds, she returned with the candy in her hands—a colorful, hypercaloric abomination that was probably off the nutritional chart of any parallel reality. She sat down next to him, with the enthusiasm of a child on a party day.

“Want a piece?”

Vergil looked at the candy as if it could open a portal to the ninth layer of Hell.

“I’d rather lick a cursed artifact.”

“More for me,” she said with a victorious smile before taking a bite that made her close her eyes in ecstasy.

“My God. This. Is. Candy Porn.”

Vergil shook his head slowly. “You are definitely the worst when it comes to food…”

“Thank you,” she replied, licking her fingers with a complete lack of dignity. “That’s the closest thing to a compliment I’ll accept from you.”

She finished the candy in record time, with a gleam in her eyes that only someone addicted to sugar could maintain. Then she leaned back against him, licking her lips, still sticky with syrup.

“You should try it at least once. Just to know what it’s like.”

“I’ve already tasted hell,” Vergil replied. “It’s sweet enough.”

Roxenne laughed loudly, then sighed, leaning her head on his shoulder this time.

The sky above the park began to turn orange and lilac, while the first lights of the night lit up the enchanted alleys of Disney. Cinderella’s Castle, in the background, shone as if made of liquid crystal — a dream suspended between worlds.

Vergil watched the silent transformation from day to night with an almost serene gaze. Almost.

Next to him, Roxanne was still licking her fingers with the last trace of bright pink syrup from the candy she had devoured moments before.

“Let’s go back to the hotel,” he said with a slight smile — almost imperceptible, but real. “It’s getting dark.”

She looked at him with eyes between defiance and desire, sensing the subtle change in his tone. Vergil was calmer, more present… and at the same time, he carried on his shoulders the feeling that the days of tranquility were numbered.

He wanted a few more hours of peace.

Maybe… a whole night.

“If you tell me you want to rest, I’ll give you five minutes to give up this lie.” She teased, approaching him with a sly half-smile.

Vergil didn’t answer right away. He just kept looking at the sky—and then at her.

“I just want a little silence… before the storm. Before Walpurgis. Before everything burns again.”

Roxanne, for a moment, seemed to understand. Not with pity, but with complicity. She ran her fingers through his hair, a gentle, intimate gesture. Then she leaned in and whispered in his ear, her voice low and warm as a promise:

“I hope tonight’s dish… is me.”

Vergil’s eyes shone with that dark violet, full of power and hunger — but at that moment, there was something else there. Something tender. Almost human.

She pulled his hand firmly, smiling like someone who knows exactly what she’s doing.

“Come on, dear. Your peace begins with me.”

And he went.

Without protest. Without masks.

Just a man being led by his wife.
