Chapter 425: Xu Qipeng’s Plan
Yao Ran nodded and replied, “It’s nothing urgent, Uncle Xu. I just wanted to ask if your team could make a device to measure the ability user’s level.”
When Xu Qipeng and the other senior officers sitting around the long table heard this, they all turned to look at her.
Observing their expressions, Yao Ran immediately guessed the answer. Judging from their reactions, they were likely already developing the device, but it was still a secret.
After a moment of silence, Xu Qipeng chuckled and said, “Your information network is impressive. Since you already know about this, I won’t hide it from you.”
“Yes, we are working on developing the device. But due to the fallen meteorites and the volcanic eruption, we’ve had to put the project on hold.”
Hearing this, Yao Ran asked, “Uncle Xu, if you had the necessary equipment and materials, could you continue the project?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Ye Junkai looked at her and asked, “Miss, are you planning to provide the materials and equipment we need?”
Seeing Yao Ran look at him, Xu Ruihan introduced the two. “Miss Yao, this is Ye Junkai, the chief scientist and head of the Institute of Physics and Science. Professor Ye, this is Yao Ran, my younger sister.”
Yao Ran raised her eyebrows slightly when Xu Ruihan introduced her as his younger sister while still calling her Miss Yao.
After staring at him for a few seconds, she turned to Ye Junkai and said, “Professor Ye, if you give me a list of the equipment and materials you need, I will find a way to prepare them for you.”
Hearing this, Ye Junkai’s eyes lit up. He studied Yao Ran for a moment before asking, “What do you want in return for the equipment and materials?”
Yao Ran enjoyed conversing with intelligent people.
She smiled and replied, “I only need two devices. If you have other ongoing or future projects, I wouldn’t mind lending you a hand. However, I want the finished product as repayment. What do you think of this deal, Professor Ye?”
Ye Junkai frowned thoughtfully at her words. Instead of replying, he turned to Xu Qipeng and said, “Commander Xu, I will leave the decision to you.”
Xu Qipeng thought for a moment, then turned to Yao Ran. “Xiao Ran, are you sure about this? Collecting the necessary equipment and materials for this project won’t be easy. Besides, we might not stay here for very long.”
Hearing this, Yao Ran asked, “Uncle Xu, do you have a plan?”
Xu Qipeng nodded and explained, “We will begin a humanitarian rescue mission tomorrow. We might build a settlement on the mountain beside this one, so I hope you can bear with the noise. But don’t worry, I will ensure the survivors won’t disturb you or your people.”
Yao Ran wasn’t surprised that Xu Qipeng and the senior officers of the Juncheng Military Base planned to rescue survivors. In the end, they are still soldiers who swear to protect the common people.
Saving people is a noble action. However, it could pose a problem if those survivors set their sights on the air raid shelter.
After considering it, Yao Ran said, “I understand. Uncle Xu, you don’t need to worry about us. Just do what you need to do. If you need help with supplies or manpower, please let me know. I will do my best to help you.”
Xu Qipeng smiled at her words and nodded. “Thank you, Xiao Ran.”
Yao Ran then added, “As for the equipment and materials, as long as you agree, I will find them for you.”
Seeing her confidence, Xu Qipeng said, “Since you have offered, Uncle can only thank you for your timely help.”
Hearing the answer she wanted, Yao Ran smiled. “I’m not that generous, Uncle Xu. I just want the device.”
Xu Qipeng laughed. He shook his head and said, “Whatever your intentions are, the fact remains that you are helping us. Don’t worry. Uncle will ensure you get the device you want.”
With his promise, Yao Ran felt happy. She nodded and said, “Then I won’t disturb your meeting. I hope everyone enjoys their stay here.”
As she stood up, the others also rose and watched her leave the meeting room.
After everyone sat down again, Xu Qipeng looked at Ye Junkai and said, “Professor Ye, please prepare the list of equipment and materials you need and hand it over to Xichen later.”
Ye Junkai nodded. “Yes, Commander.”

Xu Qipeng then turned to the others. “Now, let’s discuss the details of the rescue mission.”
Meanwhile, Wu Yehao and his team finally reached the outskirts of Luocheng City.
Looking at the road ahead, blocked by fallen meteorites, Wu Yehao picked up the walkie-talkie and ordered, “Clear the road.”
After issuing the command, he turned to the driver and said, “You stay here.”
“Yes, Captain.”
Wu Yehao got out of the armored car with the rest of his team to clear the meteorites. While they worked, a group of survivors approached from afar.
One of Wu Yehao’s subordinates noticed the survivors and said, “Captain, a group of survivors is approaching from the west.”
Wu Yehao looked in the direction and saw more than a dozen people in tattered clothes. Their thin, dust-covered bodies stumble forward like living corpses.
Brushing the dust off his palms, Wu Yehao ordered, “Continue clearing the meteorites.”
“Yes, Captain.” Following orders, his subordinates resumed their work.
Standing his ground, Wu Yehao observed the approaching group.
As they drew closer, a girl in the group noticed the light from the armored cars. Rubbing her eyes in disbelief, she looked again. When she saw people clearing the road, a glimmer of hope appeared in her dull eyes.
Grabbing the hand of the man beside her, she pointed toward the armored cars and opened her mouth to speak. But after two days without water and with her throat injured by the dusty air, she couldn’t make a sound.
