Chapter 438: Leaving For Luocheng City
The next morning, Yao Ran and Long Yu woke up early. After washing up and having breakfast with their friends, the two of them grabbed their backpacks and weapons before heading to the parking area.
When the others saw that they were leaving, they stopped what they were doing and sent them off.
Looking at Shi Xuan and the others, Long Yu said, “There is no need to send us off.”
Shi Xuan looked at him and asked, “Captain, are you sure you don’t want us to go with you?”
Long Yu nodded. He patted Shi Xuan on the shoulder and said, “This place needs you. If we fail to return, you will take over the leadership.”
When Shi Xuan heard this, he clenched his fists and said, “Captain, you must return safely. We will wait for you here.”
“Alright.” Long Yu answered after a moment of silence. Seeing that it was getting late, Long Yu turned to Yao Ran and said, “Let’s go.”
Before leaving, Yao Ran looked at Jia Xiang and said, “Sister Jia, I left the supply list in the main control room. You can use it to track the remaining supplies.”
Jia Xiang nodded. “I know. You two, be careful out there.”
“Mhm. Take care.”
After saying their goodbyes, Yao Ran and Long Yu got into the armored vehicle. Long Yu took one last look at his friends before stepping on the accelerator and driving out of the air raid shelter.
Shi Xuan and the others stood in place, watching until the armored vehicle disappeared from view before returning to their tasks.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Yao Ran pulled a map out of her space and compared it with the map released by The Origin. While marking the safest route, a notification sound came from her watch.
Hearing it, Yao Ran set the map aside and checked the message. Noticing it was from Wu Yehao, she opened it.
[Eldest Young Lady, you might want to see this.]
Attached to the message was a file. Yao Ran opened it, and as she read its contents, her eyes widened in disbelief.
Noticing the change in her expression, Long Yu asked, “Ran Ran, what is it?”
Hearing his question, Yao Ran snapped out of her daze. She read the file a few more times before turning to Long Yu and, with a slightly trembling voice, said, “A Yu, Wu Yehao just sent me a file.”
Long Yu, sensing something was wrong from her expression, waited silently for her to elaborate.
After a moment of hesitation, she finally asked, “A Yu, have you ever heard of Project Zero?”
Long Yu remembered that, in their previous life, Yao Ran had been the main experimental subject of Project Zero. Curious as to why she was suddenly bringing this up, Long Yu asked, “Why are you asking about this?”
Yao Ran took a deep breath before replying, “The one who planned and founded Project Zero is my grandfather.”
Her revelation nearly caused Long Yu to crash into a boulder on the roadside. He quickly regained control, narrowly avoiding a collision. Once the vehicle stabilized, Long Yu let out a sigh of relief.
He then glanced at Yao Ran and asked in disbelief, “What did you just say? The founder of Project Zero is your grandfather?”
Yao Ran nodded. “Yes. Wu Yehao also suspects that the reason Gao Shuwei established The Ark might be connected to my grandfather’s motives for founding Project Zero.”
After hearing this, Long Yu frowned and said, “I remember you were the main experimental subject of Project Zero.”
Yao Ran nodded gloomily. Long Yu was silent for a moment and then added, “If your grandfather was the one who planned Project Zero, then why did they use you as the main experimental subject?”
Hearing this, Yao Ran shook her head. The grandfather she knew was a kind and gentle grandfather. He had always been protective of her.
Yao Ran was very sure that the main objective of Project Zero wasn’t meant to harm her. However, after experiencing two years of torture in the secret laboratory, Yao Ran wasn’t so sure anymore.
With her thoughts in turmoil, she began to question everything she thought she knew, feeling like her entire life had been a lie.

Seeing her pale complexion and troubled expression, Long Yu reached over to hold her cold hand and said, “Ran Ran, Wu Yehao is a member of The Origin.”
“With the enmity between The Origin and The Ark, we can’t take Wu Yehao’s information at face value. Since we are already heading to the secret laboratory, we should investigate this matter ourselves.”
Hearing his words, Yao Ran’s mind cleared. She thought for a moment and nodded. “You are right. I need to investigate this carefully.”
After calming down, Yao Ran returned her attention to the file and continued reading.
While Yao Ran and Long Yu were on their way to Luocheng City, Xu Qipeng received classified information from his spy in Shoudu City.
“Are you sure about that?” Xu Qipeng asked through the satellite phone.
A second later, a woman’s hushed voice came from the other end. “Yes, Commander Xu. Two days ago, I managed to sneak in and overheard their discussion. The central government is urgently searching for submarines.”
“From their conversation, it seems they already have more than twenty submarines, but they still want more.”
Listening to the spy’s report, Xu Qipeng fell into deep thought. A moment later, he said, “Find out more about this and report back to me as soon as possible.”
“Yes, Commander.”
After ending the call, Xu Qipeng frowned and thought, ‘A submarine can accommodate around 130 to 160 people. With more than twenty submarines, that’s space for about 2,600 people. What are they planning with so many submarines?’
Unable to determine the central government’s motive, Xu Qipeng made a quick decision. Picking up his satellite phone, he called Xu Ruihan. After a brief wait, he heard Xu Ruihan’s calm voice on the other end.
“Second Uncle, do you need something?”
