Chapter 485: Treatment
After taking in the man and his family’s circumstances, Yao Ran said, “No problem. Let’s go to your place so I can treat your son. His condition is critical, so we need to hurry.”
The man quickly nodded, grabbed his wife’s hand, and led the way. Following behind them, Yao Ran scanned her surroundings and memorized the route.
After walking through several narrow roads and making countless turns, they finally arrived at the harbor area. Noticing that this district bordered the residential district where Tower F was located, Yao Ran was surprised by the stark contrast between the residential and harbor districts.
Seeing her observing the surroundings with interest, the man said, “Young Lady, you should be careful after we pass this area. The people who live here aren’t good. Most of them are criminals or desperate individuals who wouldn’t hesitate to kill.”
Just as he said that, Yao Ran noticed a few people trailing behind them. With a slight smile on her lips, she replied, “It’s fine. I can protect myself.”
Hearing her confident words, the man glanced at the long sword hanging from her waist and said no more. For a woman to be able to wear clean clothes and live comfortably in times like these, she had to be a capable individual.
As they continued walking in silence, the people following them grew impatient.
After a few more minutes, one of them asked impatiently, “Brother, should we do it now?”
The man referred to as ‘Brother’ narrowed his eyes, staring at Yao Ran, before replying, “Wait a little longer.”
Since their leader had spoken, the others could only obey.
It took Yao Ran and the others nearly an hour to reach the man’s shelter from the harbor entrance.
“Young Lady, we are here,” the man said.
Looking at the filthy corner, Yao Ran asked, “Your family lives here?”
The man nodded. “Yes.”
Seeing nothing but the dirty wall behind them, Yao Ran thought, ‘It’s not easy for anyone. Compared to this, my life with the Lan family in my previous life wasn’t so bad after all.’
With that in mind, she took a mattress out of her space and placed it in the corner. Then she turned to the man and said, “Please lay your son down so I can examine him.”
Hearing this, the man quickly responded, “Yes.”
As he carefully placed his son on the mattress, he looked at Yao Ran and hesitantly asked, “Young Lady, are you a doctor?”
Yao Ran shook her head. “I’m a medical student from Haicheng University specializing in Eastern medicine. Treating illnesses like this is our expertise.”
The man’s eyes dimmed slightly after listening to her answer. Without proper medicine, even a doctor could do little to save a patient, let alone a medical student who hadn’t graduated.
Noticing his expression, Yao Ran wasn’t offended. After all, she wasn’t a licensed doctor.
However, with her experiences from both this life and her previous one—along with the lake water’s healing properties—saving the child would be easy.
After taking the boy’s pulse, Yao Ran said, “Your son is severely malnourished, and some of his organs have already started to fail.”
Hearing this, the last glimmer of hope in the man’s eyes faded. Looking at his son, he muttered, “Thank you for taking the time to check him. I have nothing to repay you with, but I will do whatever I can to return this kindness.”
Yao Ran glanced at him when he said that and asked. “Are you giving up on your son?”
The man looked up at her words and asked numbly, “Can you really save him?”
Yao Ran chuckled and confidently replied, “I wouldn’t have said so if I couldn’t.”
With that, she ignored him and took out her medical box.
Opening it, she took out an IV bag and said, “I will give him IV drips, vitamins, and liquid supplements to strengthen his body first.”
After setting up the IV drips, she injected antibiotics, IV nutrition, and antipyretics into the bag.

Once she was done, she turned to the man and his wife and explained, “Your son’s small intestine and stomach are too weak to absorb nutrients from food. I will administer IV nutrition therapy to rebuild his strength and let his body recover before he can start eating solid food again.”
The man watched in awe as Yao Ran calmly and skillfully treated his son. After a long silence, he finally spoke, “How… how much do I owe you for the medicine and treatment?”
“No charge,” Yao Ran said as she put away her medical box back into her space.
The man looked shocked at her words and asked in disbelief, “Really?”
Yao Ran nodded. “Yes.”
Still unconvinced, the man hesitated to speak while Yao Ran added, “We can discuss the task I want you to do later. For now, I have something else to deal with.”
As soon as she said that, screams echoed from the other side of the alley.
“Ah!”
“Damn it! What the hell is this?!”
“Brother, help me!”
Hearing the series of panicked cries, Yao Ran sneered and controlled her wood element energy to pull back the vines.
Whoosh! Crack! Bam!
The moment the people entangled by the vines fell heavily to the ground, they screamed again.
“Ouch!”
“Ah!”
“Ugh!”
Seeing three scrawny men groaning on the ground and bound tightly like dumplings by thick green vines, Yao Ran approached them calmly. She stared at them and asked, “Why are you following me?”
The men looked up at her, realizing she had discovered them long ago.
One of them clenched his jaw and cursed inwardly. ‘No wonder she looks well-fed and clean. Turns out, she is an ability user!’
While he was lost in thought, Yao Ran’s patience ran out. Focusing her wood element energy, she tightened the vines around the man.
Crack!
A sharp snap rang out, followed by his agonized scream. “Ahhh!”
Forced out of his thoughts by the pain, the man raised his head to meet Yao Ran’s gaze.
