Chapter 486: How Cheap
Looking into Yao Ran’s cold, emotionless eyes, the man knew he had chosen the wrong target today. As he cursed his bad luck in his heart, he stammered, “Y–Young Lady, please forgive us! W-We just wanted some food…”
Yao Ran’s eyes darkened at his answer. After a few seconds of silence, she sneered. “Two-legged beasts.”
The moment she uttered those words, the vines constricted the three men even more.
“Ugh!”
The three men gasped as their lungs squeezed tight by the vines. Even if they wanted to shout for help, no sound came out of their mouths.
Just before the leader lost consciousness, he weakly shook his head and managed to choke out, “N-no…”
Seeing this, Yao Ran hesitated for a moment before slightly loosening the vines. A second later, the three men gasped desperately and coughed violently.
“Cough! Cough!”
Once the leader caught his breath, Yao Ran’s voice cut through the silence, cold and unwavering. “Tell me the truth, or you will die here today.”
Feeling the deadly aura surrounding her, cold sweat dripped down the man’s forehead as chills ran down his spine. Knowing she was serious, he had no choice but to speak.
He glanced at the man and his family huddled together in the corner before his eyes fell on the new mattress on the ground. Noticing its thickness, greed flickered in the man’s eyes.
Seeing this, Yao Ran’s expression darkened. She summoned a vine and lashed it at the man.
Slash!
The vine struck the man’s cheek, slicing through his flesh. Sensing the burning pain, the man screamed, “Ah!”
As blood seeped from his wound and dripped to the ground, Yao Ran spoke coldly, “This is your last chance. Answer me.”
When he remained silent, Yao Ran drew her long sword and, in one swift motion, beheaded him.
Slash! Thud! Thud!
For a moment, the man was confused as he stared at his headless body lying on the ground. Seeing blood spurted from his neck, pooling around him, his eyes widened in horror. However, before he could fully comprehend what had happened, he breathed his last.
Seeing this, the other two men and the family in the corner trembled in fear. When Yao Ran turned her gaze on them, one of the men was so terrified that he wet himself.
Yao Ran frowned in disgust and said, “If you don’t want to die, answer my question.”
After witnessing how effortlessly she beheaded their leader, the two men nodded frantically like chickens pecking at grain.
One of them tried to kneel as he stammered, “Y–Young Lady, please spare my life! I… I will tell you everything!”
The other man quickly followed suit while pleading, “Young Lady, please spare my life!”
As Yao Ran flicked the blood from her long sword, the two men exchanged fearful glances. One of them spoke up, “We… we were ordered to kidnap you.”
“By who?” Yao Ran coldly asked.
Licking his cracked lips nervously, the man who had wet himself replied, “A young man saw you at the Mission Hall and wanted to make you his woman, so he paid us twenty kilograms of potatoes to kidnap you.”
Yao Ran was speechless when she heard what he said. “…..” Only twenty kilograms of potatoes? How cheap.
Unaware of her thoughts, the other man quickly added, “Young Lady, we only did it for food. Please spare our lives!”
Yao Ran snapped out of her thoughts and demanded, “Who ordered you to do this?”
The two men exchanged uneasy glances and hesitated. Yao Ran’s eyes narrowed as she tightened the vines around their bodies.

Feeling the pressure increase, one of the men cried out, “Ah! I will talk! Please, stop!”
Yao Ran loosened the vines slightly and gestured for him to continue.
After gasping for breath, the man explained, “It was a young master from Shoudu City. I don’t know his name because his subordinate is the one who gave us the order.”
Yao Ran frowned, pondering on his words. After a moment of thought, she withdrew the vines and said, “Get lost.”
Managed to keep their lives, the two men scrambled to their feet and ran as fast as they could.
Watching them flee, the man hiding in the corner asked, “Young Lady, is it safe to let them go? What if they report to that young master?”
Yao Ran glanced at him and smiled faintly. “That is exactly what I want. I just hope they do report it.”
Afterward, she turned to the man and asked, “What is your name?”
The man hesitated before replying, “Hao Ze.”
Yao Ran nodded. “Nice to meet you, Hao Ze. My name is Yao Ran.”
After introducing herself, Yao Ran took out a black plastic bag from her space and placed it before Hao Ze, and said, “There is medicine, food, and water inside. Your son is too weak to eat, so I included two bags of IV nutrients. Can you administer them yourself, or do you need my help?”
Surprised by her thoughtfulness, Hao Ze quickly answered, “I can do it myself.”
After a moment of silence, he added, “I know nothing comes for free in this world. Miss Yao, can you tell me what you want me to do?”
Yao Ran admired straightforward and intelligent people. She smiled and explained, “I just arrived yesterday and don’t know much about this place. I want you to gather information for me.”
Hao Ze frowned at her request and asked, “Why me? Wouldn’t it be better to find someone with connections?”
Yao Ran chuckled and replied, “Knowing too much can get you killed. Just do your job, and I will save your son.”
Hao Ze stared at her for a moment before nodding. “Understood.”
Satisfied with his answer, Yao Ran instructed, “Set the IV nutrients to the slowest rate so your son’s body can adjust to the nutrients. I’m staying on the top floor of Tower F in the residential district. Find me when the IV nutrients are used up or when you find some information.”
After saying that, she turned and headed back to Tower F.
