Chapter 114: Plant Conservatory
The ginger soup on his thermos was no longer fragrant.
It seems like Xuan Yi was in Pearl City Base too in Lin Weihao’s first life.
But Nanzhi was confused by his reaction.
Was there an enmity or feud between them?
Nanzhi also remembered Professor Xuan Yi in her past life, she heard of his accomplishments.
He was the one behind the invention of the mental power measurement device, equipment made from alien beasts, and etc.
He was also powerful awakener.
Survivors say he was known to be very eccentric and would not work under just anyone’s supervision or orders.
There was even a rumour that the largest base in the Capital had personally sent someone to poach him, offering to pay him the best base privilege, exuberant monthly salary of 10, 000 alien beasts’ spars, lifetime supply of food and water, rare research materials, and a private laboratory of his own.
But Professor Xuan Yi rejected the representative from the Capital Base and stayed in Pearl City.
Nanzhi had reached to a conclusion that Xuan Yi and Lin Weihao might have a very good relationship with each other for him to reject the offer.
But is seems that her guess is far from what happened.
However, if Xuan Yi had been alive in both of their past lives, this made her a little relieve.
This was a good sign that there is a high chance the mission would go well.
After a long while, Lin Weihao spoke, warning her, “Don’t get close to him. He is a little crazy. I’m afraid you’ll end up in his lab.”
Nanzhi became even more curious.
Feng Ran, listening to their conversation couldn’t help but detect something amiss in his Brother Lin’s tone.
Why does it sound like he was full of vinegar?
Another three hours of driving passed, they reached a fork road.
Half a mile from the left road is the Plant Conservatory.
….
“Captain Wang Chul!”
“Captain Wang Chul!”
The crisp slap on his face made Wang Chul jolt awake.
He blinked his eyes adjusting to the light. In his blurry sight he saw the outlines of people and the shelve racks.
When he finally had a clear view, the first thing he noticed is that he was no longer in the glass dome plant conservatory but in a dimly lit room.
The floor underneath his hand was cold.
He remembered what happened last night and quickly sat down to count his troops.
After a mishap because of the survivors’ move, the operation had gone awry.
“How is everyone?” He asked.

“No one died but most of the men are injured.”
Wang Chul heavily frowned and stood up checking the condition of the injured men.
The injured men were laying on the cartons boxes.
Out of the sixteen soldiers last night, nine were injured. Most of their injuries were from the wolves’ claws.
One of them was in serious condition because the wolf had bitten him on his shoulder. Although it was temporarily patched with bandages, the bleeding hadn’t stop.
But the survivors they rescued last night were safe. They are a little cold.
“Argh.” The injured soldier groaned. Wang Chul checked his temperature and it was scalding hot.
An inexplicable voice encrusted with coldness came from behind him. “He needs blood transfusion.”
Wang Chul was startled and turned around, only noticing there was a young man white lab coat standing a meter behind him.
He was wearing eyeglasses and it glowed brightly with the light coming from the alcohol lamp on his hand, letting Wang Chul see his face.
He had an effeminate facial structure. Smooth edge lines, thin lips, and sharp upturned pair of turquoise eyes.
If not for his adam’s apple and baritone voice, he would mistake him for a female.
One of the soldier said to Wang Chul, “Captain Wang, this man is Professor Xuan Yi! He is the one who helped us escape the wolves’ encirclement last night!”
Help them escape?
The wolves last nights were at least numbering to 40, how can this man be able to ward them off?
Wang Chul had little suspicion.
“His Father is our mission target, Professor Zhang Heng’s friend, Sir Xuan Le!”
Right after, a middle-aged man emerged from the gap of the metal racks.
He was wearing a white tang suit and his face was four points similar to the young man.
“Is Zhang Heng really in the base. How is he doing?” Xuan Le worriedly asked.
Wang Chul immediately confirmed his identity. If that is the case, this place must be the seed vault.
He replied, “He’s doing well and is now in charge of taking care of the base’s livestock.”
“Good. Good.” Xuan Le’s eyes narrowed into relief. He was very guilty when he proposed the seminar.
When the flood worsened, all he can think of was Zhang Heng trapped in the school because of him.
Thankfully, he was rescued before the situation become dangerous.
Wang Chul was glad that the mission target was alive.
But he very curious as to how they survived this far since he knew there was no way to obtain food inside the seed vault.
The nearest supply point was the snack bars and small breakfast shops, but the flood may have destroyed everything and with the so many wolves outside, it less likely for them to venture outside.
“Oh about that…”
Xuan Le showed Wang Chul a small glass terrarium where there were mushrooms and small sprouts growing. “My son grew them. Isn’t he amazing?”
“It’s indeed amazing.” Wang Chul nodded, admiring their creativity.
….
Nanzhi didn’t know if it was just her imagination, but as she drives closer to the Plant Conservatory, the temperature drastically dropped.
She took out the temperature sensor to check if it was her own delusions.
It was actually minus 10 degrees Celsius.
It was only a few hours but it dropped by ten degrees.
Out of the corner of her eyes, Nanzhi spotted something ahead.
Lin Weihao also saw it too.
Nanzhi quickly said, “Check your seatbelts.”
“What for?” Yu Baoyin and Feng Ran were confused until Nanzhi started driving fast, almost flying.
Screecchhh.
They felt their souls left their bodies.
“Sister Nan!”
