Chapter 139: Hailing Troubles (4)
Zhang Heng braced himself, his body tense and ready for the worst. But then, he saw a shadow move quickly through the chaos.
His eyes widened as a figure leapt over the shattered glass, landing solidly between him and one of the goats. The woman was calm, poised, and wore brown ankle boots that hit the ground with a soft thud.
Nanzhi moved with speed, her blade flashing through the air. Without hesitation, she struck at the first goat’s neck. The goat let out a pained bleat before it collapsed, its body twitching before going completely still.

Zhang Heng’s eyes widened.
He didn’t time to process what had just happened, another goat lunged towards the woman, its sharp horns aiming for her, “Watch out!”
Nanzhi dodged it with ease, sidestepping the dangerous horns. With one fluid motion, she thrust the handle of her dagger into the side of the goat’s head, right into its temple. The goat crumpled to the floor, lifeless.

Zhang Heng was still stunned.
Nanzhi turned to Zhang Heng. She wanted to check on him, but Xiao Hei suddenly rushed toward her and pushed her aside.
“Professor Zhang Heng!” Xiao Hei yelled.
Zhang Heng’s attention was still fixed on Nanzhi. Her sharp eyes and smooth, precise movements reminded him of someone. The man who had saved them in East Pearl University, during the flood and the snake attack.
Xiao Hei saw the two dead goats and the bloody dagger in Nanzhi’s hand. His face flushed with anger as he scolded her, “These goats are essential to the base! You should have subdued them until the soldiers arrived! Now, how are you going to make up for this? Wait you’re not even in a uniform or a soldier, how did you get inside—”
Nanzhi didn’t say anything in return. She wasn’t here to argue.
Zhang Heng wanted to explain that Nanzhi had only saved him, but Xiao Hei’s voice was too loud. He continued to yell, ignoring the severity of the situation.
Before Xiao Hei could finish his rant, a goat charged toward his side. The beast knocked him to the floor, the scattered glass shards left wounds on his face and hands.
Xiao Hei didn’t even notice the pain. He was too focused on the goat’s jaws, which were open wide and ready to rip into his face. Its teeth were stained with the blood and feathers of the chickens it had devoured earlier.
“Xiao Hei!” Zhang Heng shouted, crawling toward him.
But just before the goat could bite down, a pair of brown ankle boots appeared on Xiao Hei’s left. Nanzhi grabbed the goat’s horns, holding it back just in time.
With one swift kick, she sent the goat flying into the glass panels, where it crashed with a sickening thud. The goat staggered back to its feet, but Nanzhi was already on the move again.
The goat charged at them again, but Nanzhi was quicker. She flicked her dagger with precision, landing a clean blow to the goat’s forehead. It fell to the ground with another loud thud.

Zhang Heng and Xiao Hei both stood frozen for a moment, staring at the bloodstained woman before them.
Xiao Hei swallowed back his words, with his heart still stuck on his throat.
Meanwhile not far from them…
Since it was still working hours, the farm had workers at this time, the animal husbandry and farm are just close, and two rampaging goats chased and attacked the workers.
Yu Baoyin appeared and helped the people here.
Although her fight was longer than Nanzhi, she was able to kill the two goats in the end.
Reuniting with Nanzhi, Yu Baoyin’s bloodstained face broke into a grin, scaring Xiao Hei. “Sister Nan, did I do well?”
Nanzhi wiped the blood off Yu Baoyin’s face, humming. She was exhausted, but still standing strong.

In the midst of the chaos, the soldiers were struggling to bring the situation under control. They had been trying to use tranquilizer guns, but the goats were too enraged. Blood splattered everywhere as the animals fought back, their fury unstoppable.
The soldiers finally had to use force.
The goats had destroyed much of the crops, and the ponds were no exception. The goats left a bloody mess behind.
Xiao Hei and Professor Zhang Heng had managed to help the sows and piglets escape the mayhem. The survivors were moved to safety, their faces pale from fear and exhaustion.
But the real danger was far from over. The farm and the surrounding areas were in ruins, and everyone knew it would take months to rebuild this place.
…
A raspy unearthly growl escaped her lips before she lunged at them with clouded red eyes.
Lin Weihao quickly pushed Pei Zhi at the side and restrained the woman.
Just after the patient was subdued, another patient– a middle-aged man near the vents—began trashing wildly. His eyes shot open, glowing with a faint sickly red hue. He tore at the IV in his arm, blood splattering onto the white sheets.
Then another patient. And another.
Bingwen dodged a patient who lunged at him, but he was soon caught by another, its grip tight around his arm. IHei Qian, now also acting strangely, tried to bite him.
“Brother Hei?” Bingwen called out, his voice filled with concern.
But Hei Qian didn’t respond. His eyes were vacant, and he was acting just like the other infected patients.
Bingwen raised his leg, wanting to kick Hei Qian’s chest to pull his arm away but couldn’t do it in the end.
He couldn’t hurt him.
Lin Weihao, seeing the situation getting worse, grabbed a tranquilizer gun and quickly injected Hei Qian with a calming dose. The bloodshot eyes of Hei Qian returned to normal, and he collapsed unconscious, freeing Bingwen.
The hospital was in full chaos now. Patients were stumbling from their beds, their movements jerky and unnatural. Their skin was cold, and frost-like patterns covered their bodies, as though the chill from the outside had seeped into their very veins.
Before anyone could react, one of the patients attacked a nurse, clawing at her. The nurse screamed in terror as the patient tried to strangle her.
Wang Chul quickly moved to restrain the patient, and Feng Ran wrapped the patient in a blanket to prevent further harm. Lin Weihao, along with his team, worked fast to tie up the patients.
Once the situation had been brought under control, Lin Weihao called for reinforcements, knowing that the hospital couldn’t handle much more. He also contacted Nanzhi to warn her of what was going on.
Outside the ward, Lin Jianjun and Lin Daxia had been waiting. When the door swung open, they were shocked by the scene they witnessed.
“What happened inside?” they asked.
The ward had been soundproofed, and with Lin Weihao handling the situation, they hadn’t heard anything. Once they understood the extent of the chaos, they called the butler to check on Lin Yicheng. The two of them were relieved to know the boy was safe.
…
Nanzhi, now back on the surface, tried to reach Lin Weihao, but she quickly realized that he was dealing with the same kind of chaos at the hospital. Her grip on her phone tightened as she asked, her voice calm but edged with urgency, “Weihao? Are you okay?”
Sensing her concern, Lin Weihao couldn’t retrain the smile tugging at his lips, despite the dire situation. “I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
But he couldn’t ignore the severity of what was happening. The farm and hospital were both affected, and things were much worse than he had expected.
“What’s happening there?” he asked, his voice steady but filled with concern.
Nanzhi explained what had happened—about the hailstorm, the earthquake, and the strange events.
She was certain now that the situation wasn’t a coincidence.
…..
In the hospital of the survivor’s camp, the noises grow deafening with overlapping cries, the blaring of alarms and the eerie shout of the infected groaning and snarling in their fevered delirium.
Fear spread like wildfire as people struggled to comprehend what’s going on.
When the military troops arrived at the hospital, it was total mayhem. They quickly restrained the patients.
The disorder was only resolved in the afternoon.
To investigate what’s going on, the official of the base issued a lockdown.
As Nanzhi gazed on the hailstorm still raging on, she heard the mechanical beep.
