Chapter 143: Shameless Lin Weihao
She dearly remembered these mushrooms.
After the light dimmed from them, she would gather the mushrooms and carefully extract the spores. Their caps and undersides were edible and could be cooked in the game.
But she had never tasted them herself.
Her chance for the weekly resource dungeon had already passed. She would have to wait until next week.
As she stared deeply at the mushrooms, her thoughts drifted to the virtual farm.
Instead of waiting for the dungeon to reopen, could she transplant them?
She tried it once, but it failed.
[Operation Failed. Not a suitable habitat.]
Nanzhi glanced at the options. There were no winter habitats available.
Her eyes skimmed over the square plots of land and stopped at the Winter Plum Blossom.
An idea struck her.
Would it work?
She tried transplanting one.
The prompt changed, but it still failed.
[Cannot be replanted.]
The system then advised:
[Not all harvested Glowing Wintergreen Mushrooms can be replanted. Only the larger varieties can be regrown.]
Among all the mushrooms in her inventory, only one fit the system’s criteria.
It was the last mushroom she had collected.
“System,” she asked, “If I plant this mushroom on the Winter Plum Blossom tree, will the plum blossom tree be negatively affected?”
[No. Both plants retain their original properties unless their attributes are conflicting.]
Based on the system’s response, replanting into an occupied slot seemed possible. Could she also plant ordinary crops alongside mutated ones?
For example, could she grow regular fruits or herbs with the mutated Salacca tree? Or ordinary hydrophytes alongside the Bingdi lotus? Or perhaps another regular mushroom next to the Winter Plum Blossom tree?
What if the ordinary crops mutated too and turned into jade and spar-generating crops?
!!!
A smile spread across Nanzhi’s face.
[Stop dreaming.]
Nanzhi raised an eyebrow. How do you know what I was thinking?
[Your current expression is similar to when you are rewarded with EXP. It looked like the merchants in the black market.]
Nanzhi gave the system a suspicious glance. Comments like this, and your flexible policy, makes me wonder if you’re another human or just an entity.

The system fell silent, only increasing Nanzhi’s suspicions.
In any case, she carefully picked up the mushroom. It felt delicate in her hand.
Item Appraise.
[1-star Glowing Wintergreen Mushroom (Adult)]
Nanzhi tried replanting it again.
[Detecting: Plants are compatible.]
[Would you like to plant it?]
She was only testing it, and dared not plant it just yet without using seeding.
From afternoon until dinnertime, she stayed in her room, carefully removing the mushroom spores into a large basket, planning to craft the serums after the reset.
Once she had gathered enough mushrooms for cooking, she stuffed them into her inventory and left the room.
To her surprise, Yu Baoyin was already cooking dinner. On the table were two bowls of vermicelli noodles, a pot of rice, and two plates of fried beef jerky and fried eggs.
“Sister Nan!” Yu Baoyin greeted her cheerfully. “I saw some noodles and eggs in the pantry and made dinner! I’m trying to learn to cook. I can’t keep having you cook for me all the time. I hope you’ll try it.”
“Alright.” Nanzhi sat down, and Yu Baoyin eagerly scooped rice into her bowl.
Although the rice and eggs were a bit burnt, and the beef in the noodles was cut unevenly and chewy, Nanzhi said nothing, only eating quietly. “It’s good.”
Yu Baoyin beamed with delight and dug in happily.
Night soon fell, and Yu Baoyin yawned as she crawled into bed, already wishing she could start a new job tomorrow.
Lin Weihao had called a few more times, his voice sounding very tired.
Nanzhi didn’t prolong the call, ending it quickly so he could get some rest.
She didn’t expect a visitor late in the night.
Knock… knock.
The sound echoed softly through the quiet room.
Nanzhi opened the door to find Lin Weihao standing in the doorway, his expression weary. Without a word, he moved towards her and gently placed his head on her shoulder, his breath warm against her skin.
“Can I stay here tonight?” His voice was low, tinged with exhaustion, as though it carried the weight of a long day’s struggles.
Before Nanzhi could respond, she felt the rhythm of his breath against her neck. His body, solid and warm, leaned against hers, his familiar scent surrounding her in a quiet embrace.
“Weihao? Weihao?” she whispered, her hand resting lightly on his shoulder, but he didn’t answer. He had already fallen asleep, his body melting against hers as though her presence alone was all he needed.
A sigh escaped her lips.
Lin Weihao had fallen asleep instantly.
Forget it. Being a base leader was tiresome.
She was supposed to put him on the sofa, but in the end, she decided to bring him to her bedroom.
She removed his shoes, socks, and winter coat.
Just before tucking him in, Lin Weihao suddenly moved and pulled her into the bed.
“Weihao!” she exclaimed.
He didn’t respond. Instead, he mumbled in his sleep, “Zhi Zhi… I’m cold… I’m cold… give me a hug…”
“Zhi Zhi…” His voice, low and soft.
His face was so close to hers that she could feel his breath on her lips. The proximity made her dizzy from his scent.
Before she could even moved a muscle, Lin Weihao pulled her even closer, wrapping his arms around her like a blanket.
“Zhi Zhi, why aren’t you hugging me? Just one cuddle… I’m so tired…” His voice was a mix of sleepy pleading.
Lin Weihao hugged her tightly, pressing her against him and started rubbing against her like a cat. He continued to purr her that nickname.
Nanzhi trembled.
But it wasn’t just his affectionate words that held her attention. There was something else—something distinctly warmer in the area, where his body pressed against hers. It was scorching.
Lin Weihao rubbed against her again.
She could feel something hard poking her thigh, and, just when she thought it couldn’t get more awkward, she realized what it was.
Her face turned red.
This guy! she exclaimed, grabbing a blanket to tie him up like a human dumpling.
“Fine, fine, let me just log into the game lobby,” she muttered to herself, “before I lose all my remaining composure and turn into a wolf.”
Fortunately, the time had reset.
Once she logged into the Game Lobby, she couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.
As she vanished into the virtual world, Lin Weihao opened his eyes, blinking in confusion. He looked around, and then, with a slight frown, muttered, “Zhi Zhi… why’d you run off?”
A faint hint of disappointment flashed across his face. Had his charm failed? Was he… losing his touch?
As he was waiting for her to come back, Lin Weihao couldn’t endure falling asleep.
It was not a lie that he was tired.
….
The small furnace sat on a sturdy table in the corner of her space, its frosty surface glinting under the artificial light of the Game Lobby room.
Nanzhi’s hands hovered over the Frostforge furnace as she prepared to craft her first batch of serum.
On the counter, the ingredients were neatly laid out: a small vial of wintergreen mushroom spores, bottles of honey, finely grated lemon peel, and a box of ground cinnamon.
