Chapter 146: X-Prime
Before leaving the underground residential building, Lin Weihao passed by his family’s unit.
“Master! I’m glad you’re here!” The butler greeted him at the door. Lin Jianjun and Lin Daxia were still recovering from the events of last night and were asleep.
“En. How are Mother and Grandfather?” Lin Weihao asked.
“They’re in the little master’s room, sleeping together with him. Master, would you like to come in for tea? I can brew your favorite tea or pack your breakfast,” the butler offered.
“No need. When they wake up, let them drink it themselves,” Lin Weihao replied, placing three small bowls on the kitchen counter. “Give these to them. Don’t forget.”
Pan Chen couldn’t stop Lin Weihao from leaving. He watched his back disappear into the distance, but as he looked longer, he noticed something odd—Lin Weihao seemed to be holding a square bag with a girly design.
Its shape resembled the snack bags that the young master often carried around.
Inside the truck, Lin Weihao ate Nanzhi’s breakfast with relish, under the watchful eyes of Wang Chul, Colonel Tang, Hei Qian, and Feng Ran. As he was very hungry since last night, he didn’t offer them a share.
With the cafeteria closed, the military had been rationed canned food and MREs for the time being.
Compared to the fragrant lunch boxes on Lin Weihao’s lap, everyone else’s food seemed tasteless. Eating with Lin Weihao felt like torture, but he didn’t seem to mind their discomfort.
They stared, eyes glazed over, watching him eat with such elegance.
Lin Daxia had always been a poor cook, so Feng Ran quickly deduced who had packed those lunch boxes. It was undoubtedly Miss Lu!
He cleared his throat. “Brother Lin, if you’re not going to finish, I can help lighten your load.”
Lin Weihao didn’t even glance at him. “I’m saving some for lunch. Eat your sandwich,” he replied brusquely. The portion wasn’t even enough for him.
Feng Ran sighed and took a bite of his cold sandwich. Such stinginess.
“Oh, right.”
Wang Chul, Colonel Tang, and Feng Ran watched as Lin Weihao placed small plastic bowls on their laps.
Feng Ran eyed the bowl of honey-like liquid warily. “What’s this, Brother Lin?”
“Don’t ask questions. It’s good for you,” Lin Weihao said, his expression unchanging as he mentally cataloged Feng Ran’s jade collection.
Feng Ran shot him a suspicious look but drank the liquid anyway. He licked his lips afterward, surprised at how much better it tasted than any honey he’d had before.
Wang Chul, Colonel Tang, and Hei Qian followed suit.
They all shivered as a cold rush ran through their veins, but soon a soothing warmth spread through them.
Was it their imagination, or did they suddenly feel like the truck was too stuffy? Their thick coats felt unbearably warm now.
Lin Weihao observed their reactions silently before closing his lunch boxes and stuffing them into his bag.
As soon as Feng Ran finished drinking, Lin Weihao extended his palm expectantly. “That honey comes from a rare bee variant we found in the conservatory. It’s worth 2.5 kg of jade. But since we’re friends, I’ll give you a discount of 0.5 kg. You’ll only owe me 2 kg.”
“I recall you have some jade jewelry in your room. You can use that as payment,” Lin Weihao added.
“Don’t worry about paying right away. I’ve already drawn up an IOU contract. Just sign it when you can.”
Lin Weihao pulled four papers and four pens from his bag.
Everyone: “…”
When did he prepare IOUs?

The others read the terms printed on the paper.
“Payment should be settled no later than one week after the end of winter. If not, the principal will accrue 100% interest each week.”
Nanzhi really chose the perfect business partner. Lin Weihao was a master at extortion.
Everyone stared at him in disbelief. Was it too late to vomit the honey out?
Feng Ran protested, “Brother Lin, how could you charge so much for the honey?”
The armored truck soon arrived at the underground hospital.
“Didn’t you see the effects for yourself? Or would you like a demonstration?” Lin Weihao asked, opening the truck door, allowing the biting winter wind to rush inside.
Yesterday, the temperature had been -5°C, but now it had dropped to -15°C.
The driver wrapped his arms tightly around himself, shivering uncontrollably.
The other five, however, felt completely fine. Their breaths were visible in the frigid air, yet they hardly felt the cold. In fact, they were tempted to shed their outer coats.
Such a stark difference from last night.
What kind of honey was that?
“What did you feed me? Lin Weihao, what exactly was that honey? Do you have more? I want to give it to my platoon! But can you sell it for less than 1 kg of jade each?” Colonel Tang was the first to ask.
“Boss Lin, can you spare me some as well? It’s for my team members. Once the weather clears, we’ll pay you back,” Wang Chul added.
Lin Weihao ignored their requests. There was a more pressing matter at hand.
“We’ll talk about this later,” he said.
Everyone sighed but understood.
They reached the underground hospital and, on their way to the infirmary, passed by Bingwen’s room.
Hei Qian paused at the door. Inside, the sounds of groans and moans were audible. He had been with Bingwen the most and they were close as brothers.
Lin Weihao’s expression grew solemn. He patted Hei Qian’s shoulder in comfort. “Everything will be alright.” He had wanted to give Bingwen some of the honey, but since his temperature was already high, the honey—which was meant to raise the body’s temperature—could make things worse.
Hei Qian wiped his eyes and stepped aside to allow the medics to enter.
Meanwhile, the researchers in the lab had been working tirelessly through the night, analyzing blood samples from asymptomatic patients and those in the early stages of fever. It was crucial to understand the pathogen’s onset, system hijacking, and mutation phases.
After hours of testing, they had finally identified the pathogen.
“35% Carbon, 20% Silicon, 10% Sulfur, 10% Phosphorus, 3% Iron, 5% Calcium, 4% Lanthanides, 4% Hydrogen, 3% Oxygen, and 1% of an unknown toxic element. We’ve temporarily named it ‘X-Prime.'”
