Chapter 183: Nine-Tiered Body Refining Pagoda
Buzz—
The man standing beside Wang Jian paused and turned his head toward the dark sky. “Wait, I hear something. It sounds like insect wings… You know, like those mosquitoes buzzing in our ears.”
Apart from the ants, the base hadn’t encountered any insect-type monsters. But the ants didn’t have anyone who could fly. Yet, that didn’t stop the man from imagining things.
Yu Baoyin climbed out of bed. She needed to use the toilet, but when she tried, she discovered the one in the room was clogged.
When they were first brought here, she’d noticed a toilet on the second floor. Yawning, she decided to go out and use that one.
Lin Weihao and Nanzhi were in the neighboring room, while Hei Qian and Bingwen slept soundly. They had been exhausted from repairing the communication device and were deep in slumber.
As for Feng Ran, he was sprawled on the couch, having worn himself out from meditating the night before.
Yu Baoyin glanced at his unguarded face and grinned. She couldn’t resist. This guy was always scheming to steal her Sister Nan away.
“Hi hi hi.”
It was around 4:30 in the morning, and the only light illuminating her way was the flashlight in her hand.
On the second floor, Lao Gong had left Wang Jian’s room to wake the kitchen ladies. Every time Wang Jian was on duty, Lao Gong would take care of his daughter.
During the ant tide and the mysterious fever, most of the casualties had been children and the elderly. Lao Gong had developed a soft spot for children. Whenever he had extra food, he would share it with the little girl.
He had made it his responsibility to care for Wang Jian’s child, and over time, the girl had come to call him “Uncle.”
After making sure the little girl was asleep, he left, intending to return soon.
The weekly dungeon in the game was both a land of opportunity and danger. It was a place where one could obtain rare gears and magical items.
But it wasn’t easy to get the loot because, much like the resource dungeon, her avatar couldn’t use abilities in this space.
[You’ve entered the First Floor of the Nine-Tiered Refining Pagoda]
[This dungeon is designed to hone your physique. Your ability—Telekinesis—is restricted.]
[Weapons from the outside are banned. You can only use those found inside the dungeon.]
Figures.
She sighed.
The sun blazed brightly above, its golden rays shimmering off the murky water below. Debris floated, and the tops of lifeless trees poked through the surface.
Nanzhi found herself in an inflatable boat, gently bobbing with the slow ripples. In her hand was a metal paddle, its surface scratched and slightly rusted. Her attire consisted of a diving suit, very similar to one she owned.
Dipping the paddle into the water, she pushed forward, the soft splashing breaking the eerie silence.
As she navigated through the debris, she spotted a bed, pulling the metal frame off but finding no suitable weapons.
In the distance, a familiar hotel loomed—its thirteen upper floors above the water while the lower floors were entirely submerged. The shattered windows gaped like empty sockets.
Nanzhi glanced around, and a sudden feeling of déjà vu washed over her.
As she approached the half-submerged hotel, she noticed a faded sign swinging in the breeze on the upper floors: Furong Ranch and Orchard Tourist Hotel.
No wonder it felt so familiar.
A bad feeling settled in her stomach.

Suddenly, the water rippled, and there was a sharp splash.
In her line of sight, a massive carp leaped from the water.
[Bighead Carp]
Its thick tail crashed toward her.
“Glurp. Glurp.”
Nanzhi dodged just in time, barely avoiding the tail’s impact.
The carp’s powerful body slammed the water with force, sending waves that nearly flipped her boat. Nanzhi quickly regained balance, though the water splashed over the edges, drenching her.
Without a moment’s respite, the carp lunged again, its mouth opening wide, revealing rows of dull but sharp teeth.
Her eyes narrowed. Using all her strength, Nanzhi thrust one of the metal rods between its jaws, blocking it mouth from snapping her.
Its bulging eyes darted wildly as it attempted to slap her with its tail.
“Like I’m going to let you,” Nanzhi muttered under her breath, using the other rod to pierce one of its eyes. The rod sank deep, sending a spray of dark, murky blood into the water.
The carp struggled in its final moments, but Nanzhi twisted the rod, pushing it further into the creature’s skull. With one last shudder, it stopped moving.
Splash!
A notification rang in her mind.
[You’ve killed one Monster Carp and gained 0.2 STR]
STR? and No EXP?
Before Nanzhi could ponder further, another carp leapt out of the water.
Her eyes turned fierce.
Elsewhere, Lin Weihao sat in the living room, meditating with his eyes closed. He was absorbing spars in a deep trance.
“Could it be that there’s a mosquito around? I once read about a comic with mosquitoes as big as dogs, draining people’s blood!” one man said, his face showed fear.
He gripped his machete and turned his flashlight toward the source of the sound, but there was nothing to be seen.
Another man, holding a metal bat, smacked him on the back of the head. “Stop it with your crazy stories! The last time you talked about a white ghost in the toilet, I couldn’t sleep the whole night!”
Buzz—
Wang Jian, who had been listening to their bickering, stiffened at the sound.
Before anyone could react, the man holding the bat spat blood.
The flashlight shifted toward him, and the group saw the man fall to the ground, his back had a long bloody wound as if it was slashed by a sword.
The guards looked up and saw it: a two-meter-tall ant with silver serrated scythes for mandibles and bat-like translucent wings reinforced with chitin veins. They glinted eerily under the flashlight’s glow.
If Nanzhi had been there, she would have seen the prompt above it.
