Chapter 205: Cho Jin and Helen Wu
In Lin Weihao’s last life, there was a small base in near the border of the Jade City, inside the industrial zones where the logistics hubs and storage facilities gathered.
After driving around for half an hour, they found it—a repurposed factory warehouse surrounded by makeshift barricades of rusted shipping containers and welded steel sheets.
Inside, survivors huddled in small groups, they as they looked at each other.
“Entrance fee for every person is 4 kilograms of food or 4 Liters of water!”
“That’s a rip off!” Feng Ran was shocked. It was robbery in broad daylight!
The guard sneered before saying mockingly, “Oh, it’s a poor ghost.” He had the impression that they were rich based on their clothes, but he had guessed wrong.
“I’m not forcing you to pay. If you don’t have supplies, you can rent a tent and stay outside.”
The guard pointed at the tent on the shelves full of dirty and smelly tents and to the people sleeping outside near the parked cars.
Nanzhi stepped forward and asked. “How about renting a room?”
“Normal room are 2 kilograms a night, special room is 5 kilograms a night! No bargain!”
Feng Ran choked up. These guys are thieves! I curse you to choke up from all the supplies!
Nanzhi paid up using the supplies they found in the ant nest. She wasn’t merely here for camping, rather she was gathering information.
Changes can occur and she can’t solely rely on her past experience.
The guard smiled widely collecting their supplies, before letting them in. “Wise choice! The special room is the most comfortable place in the base!”
The so called special room was just dim breakroom illuminated by two candles, its cracked concrete walls covered in faded safety posters. A few thin mattresses were scattered on the floor, the only comfort between them was them and the cold ground.
“Enjoy, guests!” Rubbing his hands, the guard grinned. He withdrew his eyes from their bags before leaving.
His little actions were caught by Lin Weihao and Nanzhi.
“They make it so fancy and when it just an empty room with four walls! Comfortable my ass! These people should be ashamed of false advertising.”
Well, the room was not really empty.
There was another group inside the room, four people, two men and two women.
Nanzhi found two of them familiar—the woman wearing a leather jacket and the tanned man with red bandana covering his head.
When the woman wearing a tight leather jacket and blue dress underneath saw Feng Ran, her eyes changed, rise from the floor, softly and eagerly called out. “CEO Feng! I haven’t seen you in long while. How have you been doing?”
Nanzhi and the others looked at the woman. She was beautiful.
He had a natural delicate, oval face, with naturally dewy, almost translucent skin. She had a pair of green eyes and naturally rosy lips. When she bity her lip—whether in hesitation and supposed distress—it made people want to soothe her worries. Her shoulder length hair cascaded over her shoulders and her petite and graceful frame, just enough to invoke a desire to protect her.
Unlike her teammates, she was very clean.
Feng Ran browsed his memories and recognized her, “Oh, its Miss Wu.”
Miss Wu’s full name was Helen Wu.
He had several interactions with Helen Wu months ago when he carried out Lin Weihao’s order.
Since Helen Wu was the most popular artist under his company, he arranged a short meeting with her and instructing her on how to promote the products.
Helen Wu’s eyes became brighter when Feng Ran acknowledged her. “CEO Feng, I’m glad you didn’t forget about me—”

“Helen Wu?” Yu Baoyin was stunned. She was a fan of Helen Wu especially her drama about an underdog fashion designer. “Miss Helen, I’m Yu Baoyin, a fan of your movie ‘The Entertainment Heiress Returns’!”
Helen Wu looked at the hand on her wrist a few beats before flashing a modest smile. “Oh, Miss Yu. Hello! It’s a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for your support!”
When Helen Wu spoke again, Nanzhi noticed the other woman of the other team glared at the back of Helen Wu’s head.
Yu Baoyin smiled. She’s even prettier up close! But Sister Nan is still prettier, especially when she fights alien beasts!
Although Helen Wu was an artist under him before, the two weren’t very close and Feng Ran was very tired to be sociable.
After a while, there was a stifling silence.
Helen Wu’s eyes were attracted on the man beside Feng Ran.
An unreadable light flashed in her eyes, which vanished a split second later.
Helen Wu introduced her team members, “This is my teammates Cho Jin, Zhao Lin, and Wu Hao.”
Helen Wu and Cho Jin.
No wonder Nanzhi found them familiar.
Cho Jin was the man in the red bandana. He was a famous survivalist and owned a real life variety show. Contrary to his fierce appearance, he had a very friendly personality. It was like Feng Ran without his machine-gun mouth.
Wu Hao was a silent man. He wore an eyeglass and didn’t like much to talk. He was a copy of Hei Qian.
Lastly, was the woman named Zhao Lin.
When Helen Wu mentioned her name, the woman’s eyes turn deathly daggers. “Don’t mention my name like were close friend! I don’t have a friend like you!”
Helen Wu’s eyes were red, unshed tears formed from the corner of her eyes. “I’m sorry Sister Zhao. I just wanted to pick fruits with Sister Tang, who knew there was a mutated boar outside.”
Cho Jin called out, “Zhao Lin! Helen already said she didn’t mean it. I know you’re angry but you can’t put all the blame on Helen. What happened was an accident!”
Clenching her fists, Zhao Lin’s eyes fleetingly flashed a fang of hurt. She abruptly stood up and shot Cho Jin and the crying Helen Wu a glare, “Who knew what really happened.”
Sister Tang is speed-type awakener and the boar was slower than her. She can escape on her own but in the morning, only this woman return, unscathed and with fingernail scratches on her arm!
It’s definitely something suspicious!
But Brother Cho Jin merely passed it as an accident without investigating!
Unable to look at their faces, Zhao Lin send one last glare to Helen Wu before going outside.
Helen Wu sniffed, silently sobbed, “I already told Sister Zhao that I didn’t mean it but why does she hate me still? What did I do for her to hate me so much?”
Cho Jin comforted her by saying, “Don’t cry. Zhao Lin and Tang Xue are close. She was just grieving. Her mind is a mess right now. I’m sure she didn’t mean to shout at you.”
Helen Wu continued crying and remained silent.
Nanzhi took a bite of the biscuits on her hand.
The foodies look at the biscuits and sighed.
According to Nanzhi’s memory, there was a market on this base where they sell information.
After working for a while, they found it besides the set of machineries.
In hope to increase national strength, the Military Base in the Pearl City had been disseminating information about the alien beasts, awakener’s power and the spars.
Therefore, besides from supplies, people here were accepting spar, in exchange for weapons and other things.
Nanzhi found the shop in her memories. She and Lin Weihao stepped inside.
It looked like a mechanic shop and first glance with all car parts pilled on the corner.
After half an hour, they head out with a piece of paper in their hands.
When they head back, they heard a sound coming from a narrow space in between the large generators.
Only a few places were lit in the base, the security was lax with only less than a dozen people patrolling and that place was clearly dark, perfect spot for thieves and criminals.
Behind the generators, Zhao Lin glared at the four men. Three were awakeners. One was of metal attribute, the other is fire attribute, and the last one is of strength attribute. At the moment she used her wood ability, the strong guy restrained her, the fire guy burned all her vines.
“It’s a pity that it isn’t the beautiful one that we caught!”
“Bastard…Hmph!” Her mouth was covered, preventing her from screaming. She bit the hand covering her mouth and the guy screamed painfully before raising his hand.
Just as he was about to slap her, he felt a heavy hand smacked the back of his head, sending him flying.
“Who?!” The other guys were stunned and turned to the newcomers.
“Your Grandfather!”
In the dark, a series of violent storm occured.
In the breakroom.
Chojin looked at the time and wondered why Zhao Lin hadn’t come back. Helen had also gone too. She excused himself saying that she was afraid Zhao Lin had gone too far.
A figure appeared on the door. It was Helen.
“I’m sorry, Brother Cho, I didn’t find her.”
Cho Jin said, “She must be just around a corner, hiding. Maybe, I should go looking for her too.”
Helen looked at Cho Jin standing up. She was about to stop him.
But just as her hand reached him, another group of people appeared on the door and one of them was Zhao Lin.
“Zhao Lin! Where have you been?”
Helen’s eyes lingered Zhao Lin before creeping on Lin Weihao.
Zhao Lin saw Cho Jin walking towards her with worries.
When Cho Jin saw the bruises on her arms, he asked her where they came from.
But Zhao Lin didn’t say anything and only returned to her spot.
The night went smoothly.
After getting what she wanted, Nanzhi and the rest boarded the car. Their next destination was the base in the city where she had stayed in her early apocalypse life.
Surprisingly, Zhao Lin’s team also had the same destination.
