Chapter 31: Shutting off the Gas Valve
The two played a little bit inside the bathroom, singing songs and laughing.

“I really like Sister. I want to come over and play again.”

“Yicheng is good and Sister is reluctant to part. How about telling your uncle to let you stay for a week?”

“But I don’t know if uncle will agree!”

Lin Weihao couldn’t help but listen to the sounds while answering the phone call.

The Premiere Hotel’s banquet takeout contained luxurious breakfast menu like bird’s nest soup, shark fin congee, eggs benedict, gourmet pastries and artisanal coffee and milk.

It spectacular at glance and the smell wafting in the air was incredible. However compared to the hotpot last night, it was subpar.

Lin Weihao and Lin Yicheng speed of eating was evidently slower.

Nanzhi had experienced how it is to be hungry in end times. Even though the tastes were lacking she still finished her meal.

Lin Weihao also ate everything and even his nephew’s leftovers.

Nanzhi stared at the man as he lectured his nephew, “Next time you leave food in your bowl, we won’t come here again.”

Lin Yicheng who a bit sad, immediately raised his head. His eyes sparkling and promised, “I will eat everything next time!” It’s just he was still full from last night that he couldn’t finish it.

Nanzhi’s gaze stayed on Lin Weihao for a few seconds longer.

Eventually, Lin Yicheng and Lin Weihao still needed to return home for unfinished business.

But Lin Yicheng was not as sad as before. He couldn’t take his eyes off at the chocolate confectionaries shaped into different animals on the box. “Wow! Is this really for me?”

Nanzhi nodded and reminded him, “Eat them sparingly and remember to share with your uncle.”

Lin Yicheng bobbed his head, “Okay, Sister!”

Nanzhi lifted her eyes and saw Lin Weihao’s staring at her then to the box on his nephew’s hand.

Nanzhi didn’t know if it was her only mind but Lin Weihao’s eyes seemed to be filled with expectation.

Thankfully, a certain man didn’t leave empty-handed.

“Mr. Lin, my father…he passed away together with my mother five months ago. He has so many things left and it would be waste to leave them to be buried in dust. I wanted to give them to you. I wonder if it’s okay.” Nanzhi could only think of this excuse.

Lin Weihao spoke, his brows furrowed as he detected the sadness on her face, “Condolence Miss Lin.”

Lin Yicheng also expressed sympathy, “Sister, Yicheng is still here. Don’t be sad!”

Nanzhi smiled and nodded.

Thirty minutes later, in the underground of the parking lot, Nanzhi helped the two stuffed the boxes on their car until the back seat and trunk had no more space left.

She wanted to give more but the car can only hold such.

As for their address, Lin Weihao had said that they were in the process of moving houses and couldn’t give her the address yet. Nanzhi bit her lips.

Lin Yicheng was reluctant to part. He gave Nanzhi a big hug almost not wanting to let go. “Sister! Don’t forget about me!”

“We’re going to be late.” Lin Weihao was the only who carried him to the car but not before looking at Nanzhi. “Miss Lin, take care.”

Nanzhi stood at the parking lot and looked at back of the disappearing car before returning to her apartment.

The moment she came back, she sat down and called the intermediary agent to know about the Natural Pipeline Gas Company that was supplying the Empire Building.

Although this building was able to withstand the natural disaster and made into an expanded base in her past life, she can’t be sure if everything goes well in this life too.

Natural Gas Pipelines are endangered during the storm and it may cause rupture which leads to gas leak and possibly explosion.

After getting the name, she showed the property documents and called their personnel to shut down the natural gas valves in their building. She also asked them to not disclose her name.

It’s better to do it early, so the residents can still have time to stock up on fuel and LPG, as the rain would get stronger in following days and as it turns out her intuition was helpful.

“Miss, you’ve just called on time. We are about to shut down the company three days later as there were repeatedly reports of gas leaks through out the city. Right now, were trying to inform our customers and therefore short on staff. We could send a personnel to you in about a day or two at the latest.”

Nanzhi agreed and ended the call.

After settling the matter of natural gas pipe line, Nanzhi become busy trying a find a clue about ‘Professor Zhang Heng’.

Several results popped up and she read them one by one and article about animal gene mutation caught her attention.

On the upper page of the article was the image of grey-haired old man with neatly combed hair and wearing black-rimmed glasses.

Under the image was a statement, ‘Zhang Heng, a celebrated doctoral supervisor of animal genetics, breeding, reproduction, and mutation’.

Animal Geneticist?

Nanzhi searched about him more and the more she knew about him, the more her face became worried.

It is said that he lives and works in Amber City.

But Amber City is 550 miles away from Pearl City, and she doesn’t even know his exact location. By the time she found him, she would be stuck in heavy rain and flood.

Nanzhi’s hope for the mission dwindled but she still tried to search for a way.

Two days passed and the rain turned to moderate with the precipitation rate of 8.5 mm per hour.

With the rain continuous pouring down, the water in the road still hasn’t drained and had nearly reached to the people’s ankles.

On this day, the personnel from the Natural Gas Pipeline Company came and shut off the valves.

Those that are in the middle of the cooking were stunned and checked their pipelines but the stove won’t start at all.

The chat group of the Empire residents became very noisy.

Nanzhi was in the midst of working out in the tredmill while checking news about Professor Zhang Heng on the phone when she heard the alarm of the door rang.
