Chapter 35: Rescue Mission (2)
In an inconspicuous warehouse near East Pearl University where lush trees grows, four men in rain coats were helping each load plastic boxes and metal cages onto the closed trucks.
The water was already flooding the half the first floor, reaching their waists and half of the shelves were below the water.
One of the men carrying a large box slipped on the floor, when his foot stepped onto the post of the shelves.
The plastic box on his hand dropped on the water and the cover slid, letting whatever is inside released on the water.
Underneath the murky water, one could see the long dark shadow slithering.
The man who tripped quickly stood back up and spat the water out his mouth.
“Sh*t, how could you be so dumb!” The one guarding the truck hurriedly check what was going on but halfway, he felt something bit onto his thigh.
“What the heck!” He raised his leg above the water and saw the bite marks on his thigh.
Streaks of blood flowed out. The man’s face pale and he immediately shouted for everyone to go out.
The four climbed on the truck, never even bothering to the close the warehouse. They only watched as the boxes floated on the water and being carried elsewhere and its direction was the university.
Looking at the boxes, one of them worriedly spoke, “Brother San, what do we do? Do we need to drive and fetch those boxes?”
Brother San was the one that was bitten. He could feel the excruciating pain from the wound travelling to his head. He didn’t have the spare energy to talk, “Just shut up and drop me off to a hospital!”
The warehouse had the medicine but with that thing in the water, there’s no way to get through!
The truck left the warehouse and rushed to the nearest hospital.
As the water kept rising, the shelves toppled one by one. More boxes could be seen floating, washed away the flow of the water and as they collided with the trees and debris on the way, some of the plastic lids broke.

Nanzhi walked to a secluded corner and checked carefully made sure that no one was around. Then, she took out an inflatable rib boat and slowly paddled her way out of the community.
She encountered rescue teams on the way and they highly discouraged her from continuing to row ahead as the water level to the downtown area where the East Pearl University is located is much worse.
It already reached to the first floor of the buildings and shops.
Nanzhi knew that but if she doesn’t go now, there will no chance later.
The wind is more troublesome than the flood. It’s strong enough to uproot houses.
If her memory serves right, it will arrive on the ninth day which must be the reason why the system mentioned the time limit.
The rescue boat seemed to come out from the east. Nanzhi asked the people on board if they had gone to the university and asked them the situation there.
“The farthest we went the 500 meters of vicinity of the school. Because there was flood barrier set up around the school, it was not our first priority.”
“Has no rescue team gone there yet?”
If there was as rescue team, what if Professor Zhang Heng was transferred to a different place? Nanzhi would have to detour and search for him again.
Nanzhi had kept in touch with Rong’er but for some reason, the other didn’t respond to her messages.
“As far as we know there’s no one but our team might go there tomorrow.” There are many people waiting to be rescued but only a few boats and the University had tall buildings so the people staying there were not in a hurry.
Tomorrow? That would be too late. Even a helicopter won’t be able to anything.
Nanzhi pursed her lips.

Although the inflatable boat was quiet and too slow, it’s size was just enough for the terrain.
There were all kinds of floating objects in the water such as cars, branches, logs, garbage, and signboards blocking the way. It was a good thing that the power grid was already cut off otherwise it will be troublesome.
As the rain continues to be stronger, it created a white mist. If weren’t for the virtual map, Nanzhi will be lose her sense of direction.
Some roads were narrow. Nanzhi had to either climb onto the roofs or break open the windows of the second floor to pass through.
Fortunately the owners of the small buildings evacuated. She didn’t touch others with more than third floors because she spotted some silhouettes on the windows.
There were probably confident that the water level would not reach that high.
Nanzhi was covered from head to toe with only her eyes showing and even her hair were tucked inside the swim cap thus it was hard to make out of her identity.
She saw the goods on the shelves like and felt pity for them to be wasted.
Nanzhi made sure that the security cameras were no longer functioning before sweeping them into her inventory.
Bags of rice, beef brisket flavored noodles, bags of milk tea powder, bags of flours, quick frozen snacks such as soup dumplings, glutinous rice balls, chicken nuggets, potato cakes, toiletries, cleaning supplies, storage boxes, food containers, table lamps, hangers, milk bottles, baby diapers, household appliances, furniture, and etc.
Because of the tight time, Nanzhi didn’t carefully look at them and only directly send to space.
Along the way, Nanzhi encountered survivors. Some wanted to pay her for a boat ride.
“Miss, can you bring me to the Premiere Hotel, I’ll pay 5, 000 yuan if you bring me there.” The man dressed in luxurious clothes shouted on the fourth floor.
The Premiere Hotel is in the opposite direction. Nanzhi turned down his request.
Not long after leaving the community, Nanzhi changed into a speedboat.
In the blink of an eye, two hours passed, Nanzhi finally saw the big gate of East Pearl University from the distance.
