Chapter 38: Rescue Mission (5)
Nanzhi cut open the snake bodies and squeezed the pulp of the fruit inside letting the juice soaked its skin.
A magical scene happened. The juice was absorbed in its flesh. Nanzhi grinned before cutting the snake to pieces.
[Tier 1 Mutated Salacca- Emits a strong delicious fragrance that will lure Tier 1 abd below creature and if ingested will induced targets to sleep]
Right, the mutated salacca is already ripe and it bore three fruits. Nanzhi was quite satisfied at its benefits. The only problem was that it only produced few fruits.
When she was done, Nanzhi told the uncle to row ahead.
…..
The walls of the private kitchen facing the walkway were all transparent glasses and the teachers could see from inside the creatures loitering in the walkway.
The hairs on the back of their backs stood and coldness creeps from their spine as they saw the snakes trying to find a way to enter the private kitchen.
The snakes they used to see in the laboratory were smaller compared to the ones outside, which seemed to be more than 10-feet long and big as a human thigh.
“Where did these snakes come from?”
Professor Zhang Heng leaned closer and inspected the snakes within his sight and his brows knitted.
“If I’m not wrong the ones outside is pit Viper, black-striped snake, white flower snake, rattle snake, sea krait, and rat snake, these snakes are often used for wind damp herbs but the species of the snakes outside is from a foreign country and they shouldn’t appear here.”
“What does professor means by wind damp herbs?”
“Wind damp herbs are used for dealing with Bi syndrome and painful arthritic conditions but because some of the snakes used for creating the ‘herb’ are highly poisonous. The government had banned them long ago which mean they were probably smuggled.”
The teachers didn’t need further words to make them understand the grave situation they were in. If they were to get bitten, there was no medicine. They could only wait to die.
With the water level continuing to rise up, the building will sooner or later be flooded, water will swarmed in along with those snakes. They can either chose to die in drowning or toxin.
Beforehand, they were told to evacuate but they didn’t follow because they knew the conditions in evacuation were far worse than here.
Now that they recall it, their stomach churned in regret.
Professor Zhang Heng remembered the opened metal boxes he saw mixed with the debris and confirmed this conjecture.
His intuition was right from the start. The reason why he remained here was because of the research material the East Pearl University had recently obtained was very valuable and he came to get it.
The principal had offered him to conduct a seminar in exchanged for it.
He didn’t expect the flood to be this severe as the worst flood to ever recorded in history of Pearl City only reached the first floor.
Professor Zhang Heng could only lament his decision now.
Suddenly, one of the teachers wearing brown-rimmed glasses and black knitted turtleneck walked back and sat on a chair and tried to call the emergency rescue hotline. “We can’t stay here. We better call someone.”
Drip—
A drop of water fell out of the grills of vent above the stove followed by another and it pooled onto a small puddle.
The hood on the roof is curved and therefore it wasn’t supposed to catch rain and so why was there water flowing in—
Out of nowhere, he saw a tongue came out, followed by another and that’s where loud thumping sound started. That’s when he realized what’s going on and he quickly called out, “They’re trying to get in! In the vents! They’re trying to get in the vents!”
The sounds also caught everyone’s attention.
They saw the snakes’ tongues protruding out of the grills. These snakes must realize the flood will be severe in the coming hours and tried to force their way in to seek a safe shelter.

Professor Zhang Heng’s assistant was the fast one to react. He quickly run and turned on the stove to the maximum high heat.
There were sounds of something smashing the walls of the vents as the smell of burning meat wafted inside the room.
Those who had weak stomach couldn’t handle it and vomited their breakfast.
“Bleurgh!”
Unfortunately, the relief didn’t last long because the fire sprinkler released water at this moment, extinguishing the flames.
Because of the danger of explosion, the Professor told his assistant, Xiao Hei to turn it off.
Thus, the snakes that were inside the vents that were still alive became aggressive and did their all to smash the grills as they could not climb out. More and more snakes climb in from the smoke inlet outside.
Under the weight the screws popped out and everyone saw the snakes pouring out of it.
“Ahh!”
The room was soon filled with screams.
Professor Zhang Heng’s assistant grabbed a chair, raising it like it was some kind of weapon and went in front of him. “Professor, stay back.”
The professor saw the remaining garlics, vinegar, coffee powder, chili powder and cinnamon near the chopping board on the counter and immediately grabbed them.
Then, he used his fist to smash the garlic into a paste and mix everything in a bowl before smearing his body and Xiao Hei with it. He also gave some to the other teachers, “Apply them on you.”
The others looked at him in confusion.
“It’s a repellant. Snakes dislike strong smell.” He explained.
The teachers frantically followed his words.
The snakes showed some hesitation approaching them. It made everyone relief except for the professor because he knew they were no different from food. When these guys get hungry, it will be the end, no repellant can stop them.
His thoughts were on the mark as some of the snakes were coped in the box too long, wasn’t fed because of the flood. These ones slowly crawled to them.
“Why is it looking at us? Is the repellant not working?”
“We’ll die at this rate. We better kill them.” The professor’s assistant suggested.
“Don’t Xiao Hei. They will perceive you’re a threat and our situation will be more critical.”
“Professor Zhang Heng, what do we do now?”
Professor Zhang Heng was silent. He didn’t know what to do.
Just then, they heard the loud sound of something banging on the door.
