Chapter 39: Rescue Mission (6)
Bang…Bang…Bang…
It disturbed the snakes inside and they became restless and agitated. They started swarming to the source of the noises, flicking their tongues, hissing loudly, and opening their jaws wide, ready to pounce.
Everyone in the room were terrified and scooted away from the door, climbing on the tables and small pantry. Because of it, they couldn’t see what’s had happened outside.
Bang—
Their hearts wildly jumping along the banging sounds.
Their minds were struck with fear from the snakes and they thought it was another big snake, much bigger than anything in this room combined from it to create such a loud noise.
At the last ‘bang’ sound, the door flew opened, its hinges loosened, revealing the outline of a person.
Professor Zhang Heng’s heart skipped a beat. “Watch out!”
Way before he can alert the person, the snakes as if threatened by newcomer’s presence jumped like an arrow released from a bow.
Just when they thought they would see the person being bitten by the snakes, something was tossed to the farther corner of the room.
The snakes frantically crawled onto the opposite direction and started fighting with each other.
Everyone was dumfounded.
“What is going on?”
Why did the snakes give up on the person and began fighting each other instead?
Even Professor Zhang Heng, the most knowledgeable among the people in the room couldn’t find an accurate reason.
“If you don’t leave this place now, you won’t have another chance later.” She only had three fruits and already used two of them.
Everyone looked at the strange person that had entered the room.
They remembered that there were snakes outside too. They jumped off the table and looked through the glass and didn’t find a single shadow and only blood splattered around.
“Where did all those snakes go?”
Nanzhi spoke, “I’ll killed them and threw them on the water.”
“What?” Each of those things is massive and needed at least four people to deal it. So it was hard to believe but the fact was in front of them and it made them swallowed their saliva.
Nanzhi glanced at the snakes and said to the group, “Are you really going waste time asking questions with all these snakes here?”
Everyone realized that they were still in danger at this point and quickly followed Nanzhi out of the room.
Outside, Nanzhi grabbed a rope from her back pack and tied the door knob with a tightly to the baluster.
Everyone looked inside, they were still shaken by the experienced and thanked Nanzhi profusely.
“Are you from a rescue team? Where are the others?” They tilted outside, searching for another person but found none.
“Yes, I’m from the rescue team and was tasked to save Professor Zhang Heng.”
“Me?” Professor Zhang Heng was taken aback but felt relieved and gratified. “Thank you. I don’t know who released the mission but thank you.” He heard that there were military men around the vicinity of the school and thought she was one of them.
“Don’t be too excited. Even if the snakes are all gone, we can’t still get out here because of the flood.” Xiao Hei said.
Professor Zhang Heng sighed. What Xiao Hei said is right.

“I have a boat.” Nanzhi said before pointing at a certain direction.
Everyone turned their heads to the orange inflatable boat with the security guard on it waving his hands.
A minute later, everyone boarded the small boat and escaped through the gates. Those able-bodied teachers joined hands in rowing against the flow using the logs they found. Nanzhi was at the back, making sure there were no snakes popping out.
Professor Zhang Heng silently glanced at the person whose eyes were the only thing visible and became entirely curious but because the person’s eyes were very cold, he swallowed the questions he was about to ask.
As for the snakes, they saw none and their heads were filled with question marks as to where they might be.
Only Nanzhi and the security guard knew the reason.
On the bird’s viewpoint, one could see the floating plastic containers with the chopped snake meat inside being chased and attacked by snakes.
When they passed by district which Nanzhi had previously looted, the water is already halfway the second floor.
Nanzhi looked ahead. She saw a silhouette of a boat.
After a while, she found her guess was true. Soldiers in their rain gears boarding an assault boat aimed their flashlights on their boats.
“I see survivors here!” One of the soldiers shouted.
Nanzhi instantly hide the bolo machete in her back pack.
“We’re saved! We’re saved! It’s the military!” The teachers rejoiced and thought Nanzhi had called the military before.
They thanked her but Nanzhi was quiet. She never expected to meet the military here but this was good, she was thinking on how to find a refuge for them.
“For real! I’ll never complain about the evacuation center again!”
The snakes traumatized him.
Professor Zhang Heng and the others were helped onto the boat as it was looking safer than Nanzhi’s inflatable boat.
When it was Nanzhi’s turn, they found out she was gone.
They only saw her rowing alone in the opposite direction.
“Eh? Where is he going? It’s not safe out there.” The soldier was baffled and used his whistle to call Nanzhi back but the latter didn’t turn around and only kept rowing.
The security guard was very worried and he asked the military personnel if they can follow that boat.
“I’m afraid we cannot. Time is tight and we still have to go to another district.” The boat turned around.
The security guard could only look at Nanzhi’s back.
Professor Zhang Heng couldn’t help but ask as he found Nanzhi’s actions very baffling, “By chance, did you send someone to East Pearl University?”
“East Pearl University? Our rescue team hadn’t gone past that point. I heard that they will go there tomorrow.” The soldier shook his head.
Professor Zhang Heng wrinkled his brows, “You never really sent someone?”
“Affirmative.” The soldier nodded and upon his reply everyone that was indebted to Nanzhi looked at each other with questions in their eyes.
