At this point, the water precipitation had obviously decreased.

Nanzhi cleaned the house and sprayed disinfectant on all corners of the room, dispersing the suffocating smell.

She sat on the table and ate her lunch while wondering when people from Unit 2105 will move.

It’s been more than a day and there’s still no movement.

Just when she thought the people in Unit 2105 will be silent, a commotion happened in front of her unit.

The alarm sounded and Nanzhi looked at the peephole only to see Auntie Yang was being held hostage by a man with a gun pressed on the back of her head.

Auntie Yang’s husband was on the entrance of their door hugging his child. His face was pale as a paper looking at his wife’s life being threatened but couldn’t do anything about it because the man said that if he moved even an inch, he would put a bullet in his wife’s head.

“Come out. Come out and see your friend.” Zhou Gui smiled maliciously. This woman was among the people who thwarted his plans.

If it wasn’t for her, he would not lose a subordinate of his and live like a king in his unit with all stolen supplies.

Zhou Gui’s heart won’t be settled until he deals with this woman first. After this, he’ll also deal with the other residents.

Nanzhi didn’t move as she was studying and observing the situation first. People with weapons could be hiding in the blind spots.

“Please release my wife and take me instead!” Auntie Yang’s husband shouted in an anxious tone.

“Mom! Mom!” Dan Dan cried out as he tried to struggle free from his father’s hold.

Auntie Yang whimpered and pleaded, “Please, please, let me go.”

“Shut up if you don’t want me to be angry and accidentally pull the trigger!” Annoyed by the noises, Zhou Gui made a gesture deepening his press on the trigger.

At the side, Xiao Lizi was only watching quietly as the situation unfolded. Zhou Gui told her to tell him if the man will do something suspicious.

“Zhou’gege, how about just destroying the door latch and knob?” She asked in a impatient voice.

Only Xiao Lizi? Nanzhi asked in her mind.

Zhou Gui wrinkled his brows deeply as if he heard something incredibly stupid. He couldn’t help turned to Xiao Lizi standing on his left, “Are you stupid? Don’t you see the door is made of—”

Seeing the chance, Nanzhi’s eyes flickered and her hands moved.

Way even before Zhou Gui could finish his sentence, the door blast opened.

Startled, he pulled the gun’s trigger but it suddenly move sideways and only stopped until it was aimed on Xiao Lizi.

“Zhou’gege! What are you doing?!”

The bullet grazed on Auntie Yang’s hair and hit Xiao Lizi’s arm.

She screamed like a pig being butchered. “Zhou’gege! How could you! You’re despicable for hitting me just because of what I said!”

Auntie Yang and her husband were also shocked. They never thought for the man to shot his female accomplice instead.

However, despite the initial shock, Auntie Yang still didn’t forget to duck and run away before Zhou Gui could even react.

Zhou Gui was entirely shocked. How did his hand moved against his will?! He never wanted to shoot Xiao Lizi but that middle-aged woman instead. So how?! How?!

All of this happened in a matter of a few seconds and by the time Zhou Gui realized his hostage is missing, a bolo machete chopped off the wrist that was holding the gun followed by a foot struck him in the jaw.

Nanzhi kicked so hard that Zhou Gui flew like a ragdoll five meters away with a dislocated jaw and three broken teeth. This guy couldn’t even utter a single scream before fainting from extreme pain.

His last thoughts before fainting was that how could this woman be strong?

“Zhou’gege!”

Xiao Lizi looked at the bloody severed hand just two feet away from her and once again let out a shrilling scream. She tried to kick the hand away and snatched the gun but Nanzhi beat her to it and kicked the hand to her instead and picked up the loaded gun.

The hand fell on Xiao Lizi’s lap. Unable to take the shock, her eyes rolled to the back of her head.

Auntie Yang’s husband, who was hugging his wife, swallowed the lump on his throat, silently watching Nanzhi’s merciless behavior.

“Thank you for helping us.”

Nanzhi could turn a blind eye and not open her door but she actually risked her life for his wife. She already saved his son before and now his wife too. The gratitude had become immeasurable.

As if a stone had been lifted off her chest, Nanzhi returned to her unit after cleaning up Xiao Lizi and Zhou Gui.

When the two woke up in the middle of the night inside in their unit because of pain, they found out their bodies were bound and their legs were riddled with bullet holes, blood pouring out of them.

Nanzhi used their own bullets on them.

As their mouths were covered by the fabric, only their muffled voices escaped their lips.

The muffled sounds echoed for two days until there was only silence.
