Chapter 81: The Talk (2)
A decade old of memories hidden in the depths of a person’s mind should have been fragmented and fuzzy but he remembered every details of it, for they remained deeply burned in his mind.
The delicate shoulder where his head was resting had transformed into soft fluffy wool, making his eyelids heavy.
Lin Weihao’s head sink and the world around them is engulfed in darkness and the black night swept over his vision.
He heaved a soft whisper of ‘Okay’, letting the memories stream along with his words, painting vivid images in Nanzhi’s head which filled her both a mix pensive and overwhelming emotions.
…..
The aftermath of the car crash incident in his first life was tragic.
Because the rescue was delayed, both Lin Weihao and Lin Yicheng suffered from smoke inhalation and severe burns.
By the time they were rescued, the two of them were in comatose states.
Lin Yicheng’s situation was worse than him and he eventually passed due to severe monoxide poisoning that cause permanent damage in his brain and other organs.
His Mother after hearing of the passing of her only grandson also went into cardiac arrest and was sent to the hospital.
Both he and His Mother were sent to the best hospital in the Capital to undergo extensive treatment. Feng Ran and Pei Zhiran were the ones that were trying their best to look for the best doctors.
His grandfather was in his old age and he was just recently diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and stroke which prevents him from travelling long distance.
He could only keep in touch through video calls and phone calls with Feng Ran.
For more than two months, Lin Weihao’s condition was getting better but his Mother’s health only kept going worse and she had to be intubated.
His grandfather also started to fall into depression and ate less and didn’t take his medication on time.
The worse of situation gradually reach its peak when an unforseen heat wave struck the Capital.
Due to its severity, wildfires occurred and the power grids cannot supply electricity anymore.
The generators in the hospital can only kept the life supports machine run for another three days but after that, every patient was left to their own devices.
They want to transfer hospital but it was dangerous to fly in an extremely hot weather.
Feng Ran and Lin Weihao’s other friends took turns in manually pumping air but they were unable to help his Mother at all.
After she went into a second cardiac arrest, her heart had stopped beating even after they tried to revive it.
Lin Weihao wasn’t aware of what was happening as he was still in a coma.
He only came to know when he woke up after the heat wave and drought had passed.
Listening to Feng Ran’s telling him of all that had happened. Lin Weihao felt his world had become dark and he fell into coma again.
His grandfather also nearly suffered another stroke.
When he woke up for the second time, it was only after a week later.
This time around, it was no longer a heat wave but a super typhoon. Only Bingwen and Hei Qian were there with him.
Feng Ran and Pei Zhiran were nowhere to be found.
Bingwen told him that Feng Ran and Pei Zhiran had tried to travel back to Pearl City because they wanted to get a helicopter for him to be aeromedical transport to a much better facility.
Days passed, the storm only worsened and the floors of the hospital were beginning to be flooded. The windows shattered and everything in the VIP ward was drenched.

Lin Weihao, still weak from being in a coma for a long time, had to be carried to a safer place.
In regards to food and water, they had used intravenous fluids to keep themselves hydrated and dive in the hotel’s submerged cafeteria for food.
They haven’t picked up any signal using the satellite phone.
When the typhoon dissipates, Lin Weihao had decided to search for a helicopter himself.
It took a long while for him to find one and when they took off, it suddenly snowing in the middle of their flight.
The temperature was around 10 degrees Celsius.
Unlike larger fixed wing airplanes, their helicopter isn’t equipped with anti-icing equipment.
Therefore, once the temperature dropped to negative, they have to watch out for the humidity condition because this is where the ice formed on the helicopters rotor wings.
From the Capital to the Pearl City, it will take them more than 12 hours to reach their destination under normal circumstances.
But because the helicopter’s fuel cannot sustain the whole flight, they had to take stops in between to refuel making the journey even longer.
Days passed and when the temperature had plunged to minus 20 degrees.
For fear of crashing midflight, they had to abandon the helicopter and travel on foot.
Another day passed, the snows thickened, the cold was crippling and they suffered frostbite and hypothermia.
They eventually needed to stop.
Bingwen, at that time, had caught a cold and Lin Weihao had to brave the harsh weather and the three-meters deep of snow to find medicine for him.
On the way to an abandoned pharmacy, Lin Weihao and Hei Qian noticed parts like rotor wings, rotor blade, rudder, and landing skid scattered around.
These things are not normally you’ll see and the two felt something was off.
They followed the debris which led them to find a crushed helicopter’s cabin and frozen bodies.
“Brother Lin!”
He couldn’t even hear Hei Qian’s loud piercing cry because his attention was solely on the bodies.
Lin Weihao recognized them.
They were his grandfather, Feng Ran, and Pei Zhiran.
If it wasn’t for Hei Qian dragging him back to a safe place, the blizzard would have buried him alive because Lin Weihao didn’t want to leave the bodies at all.
He didn’t know how he survived the whole blizzard because his mind was entirely muddled.
After the weather got better, he decided to search for the bodies and bury them properly.
Hei Qian and Bingwen followed him close. They were afraid he’ll do something extreme.
But in the middle of their search, they encountered a hungry pack of wolves.
How could three unawakened people that were starving and cold be able to fight against the Tier 1 alien beasts?
Although they managed to take down three, their injured states were no match for the rest.
Bingwen and Hei Qian were killed. Lin Weihao was also severely injured, lying weakly on the snow.
He doesn’t know why the wolves started retreating and didn’t finish him off, like they sensed something scary.
Lin Weihao laid there for how many hours alone and shivering until he saw a pair of brown winter boots with lugged outsole threads appeared in front of his eyes.
From above, he can hear a voice, “One day, I will find these wolves’ lairs and harvest all their skins.”
“Hold on, would you look at that, it’s a person. He seems to be alive still.”
He felt something poked his waist.
“Barely alive or maybe I’m just hallucinating again?”
Lin Weihao only remembered these things before he lost consciousness.
