Lin Weihao knew this because in between, his consciousness would drift like a boat.

After his temperature had returned to normal, he saw the destruction he caused or rather the bite marks he left on her.

Some of them were on her wrists, arms, shoulders and lastly on her lips which swelled like a puffer fish’s.

Lu Nanzhi looked at him with resentment as she complained, “You bite like a dog.”

No wonder he also heard her grunting and groaning in the midst.

“I’m sorry.” Since the damage was already done, he couldn’t undo it.

“Anyway, congratulations. You’ve become an Awakener. What kind of power is it?”

Power?

What is she talking about?

Wait, is she referring to that?

Lin Weihao stared at his hands and not long after the thin streaks of purple lightning pulsated around it.

Lu Nanzhi grinned and a cunning glint flashed her eyes.

“Just in time, you can compensate me by being a power bank.”

She stuck true to her words and Lin Weihao was squeezed every day of his value but on the side note, he sensed his power improved.

“It’s been so long since I’ve seen a mobile phone working.”

“Charge the radio too!”

Through her, he was able to understand that the world had changed.

Those that were only in fiction became a reality and power system was determined by ranks or Tiers.

The wolves he encountered before were Tier 1, the same with the Angus Cattle.

“Now that I have power, you don’t need to go out. I’ll take care of finding our food.” Lin Weihao said these words with bit of shyness.

Lu Nanzhi only laughed lightly, looked at him and said, “You can say that again when you reached Tier 4.”

The confidence he mustered vanished. What to do when the one you’re trying to impress is stronger than you?

Lu Nanzhi didn’t let him stay all the time in the room. She let him go out and try to fight with low-level alien beasts.

It was hard at first but over time, he was able to adapt and ultimately found the pack of wolves that attacked them before and avenged Bingwen and Hei Qian.

Their bodies had never been found.

To commemorate them, Lin Weihao had carved wooden tablets instead and engraved their names on it.

He placed them by the fire place in the room and soaked it with a glass of wine they looted outside.

He also carved another two tablets for Lu Nanzhi’s parents.

Nanzhi heaved a deep sigh and finished a bottle of wine.

That night, they didn’t sleep on the bed but rather on the cold floor beside the tablets.

Those days were the most peaceful time of his apocalyptic life.

Overtime, he gradually developed feelings for Lu Nanzhi.

But the latter didn’t see him in the same way but more like a comrade.

“Do you still think I have time for that? Marriage and love are just a dream in this current time.”

Though crestfallen, Lin Weihao was very sensible.

Times passed and the sun finally showed. The snows started to melt.

Lin Weihao and Lu Nanzhi decided to head out and planned to search for a survivor shelter. There is strength in numbers.

The snowstorm had forced majority of the alien beasts to hibernate but once springs comes, it would be dangerous for just the two of them.

Lin Weihao glanced at the room which contained their memories for one last time.

More than two months passed and the two encountered alien beasts.

Lin Weihao was able to witness Lu Nanzhi’s overpowering skill.

It was no exaggeration to say that the alien beasts were nothing more than target practices for her.

With just a wave of her hand she can crush cars, destroying the foundation of buildings, and throwing rocks as big as a house to flatten the alien beasts.

Everything seems so easy to her.

He was beginning to feel unworthy.

They fought together and Lin Weihao was able to upgrade his powers to Tier 2 but Nanzhi remained at Tier 4.

Lin Weihao was confused. She fought so many and absorbed many spars but didn’t upgrade at all?

Nanzhi answered him that what she needed was the spar of the Tier 5 Alien Beast to upgrade.

Tier 5?!

The Tier 3 alien beasts already posed too much threat to him.

He can only wonder how powerful a Tier 5 was. Lin Weihao was helpless but he was ready to provide any help he can.

The two roamed the city until they found a small survivor settlement in the outskirts of Pearl City and bordering of Jade City.

The small base only had 400 people and only 10 of them are awakeners with the highest rank of Tier 1. The two settled there for month while looking for news of Tier 5 alien beasts.

Eventually they had acquired a clue about a pseudo Tier 5 alien beast in the Amber City.

Nanzhi and Lin Weihao spend another three months travelling there and when they arrived at the said location; they found out that the alien beast was actually a plant.

Lu Nanzhi stuffed Lin Weihao in a small cave and told him to not intervene her.

Before he can protest, Nanzhi had sealed the cave with a big rock.

He hadn’t slept a wink. Lin Weihao was very uneasy, waiting for her for entire three days.

Lu Nanzhi had indeed returned but her body was soaked with her blood and the plant’s juices from head to toe.

Lin Weihao felt his blood run cold, just from the sight of her of weakly llimping.

He rushed and immediately wiped off the blood and treated her wounds.

Lin Weihao felt his heart clogged but he knew if he had gone, he would become a burden instead.

Before she passed out, she said that another Tier 5 Alien Beast appeared in the middle of the fight which resulted to a draw.

Nanzhi had jumped off a cliff to escape.

In the dark cave, Lin Weihao’s body and obsidian eyes seems to be merging with the darkness as he hugged Nanzhi’s unconscious body.
