Chapter 91: A Close Call
The one who called Lin Weihao just now was the exact team leader that spearheaded the rescue mission to find Zhi Zhi.
He was also the one who help him shipped the water from Country C.
His name was Wang Chul. He was a war orphan adopted by him, and four years older than Lin Weihao.
Lin Weihao was also the one who helped him admitted in the military.
In order to repay the favor, Wang Chul applied to be one of Lin Family’s private army and had been serving their family for half a decade already.
But despite the relationship between the two, Wang Chul didn’t like to call Lin Weihao as brother but Boss Lin instead.
In his past life, he heard that Wang Chul had been trying to get into the capital during the heat wave but never reached him.
Bingwen and Hei Qian didn’t know what happened to Wang Chul at all and only told him that after one phone call, they were unable to contact him again.
The information Wang Chul had just reported was about the appearance of the sudden fog in the military base.
While they were trying to do a routine patrol on the first checkpoint near a post office in the north, several trainee officers and survivors had caught sight of the fog.
The glasses of their vehicles were instantly clouded by the cold white mist and they had hard time finding their way back.
Because there was another upcoming disaster, day and night, the base residents had been gathering firewood, cleaning the surroundings debris, rebuilding the base wall and other above ground infrastructure that was destroyed.
But the fog halted all their plans.
The base residents gathered around the entrance points and observed the fog outside.
Suddenly, they spotted dark shadows in the fog moved.
The base residents and officers were startled.
“What the heck was that?”
Wang Chul stationed in one of the towers used a heat seeking binoculars and was able to find out make out human outlines and they seemed to be running towards the gate.
“It’s survivors!”
He quickly informed the rescue team.
Three military jeeps went out of the main gate and drove fast.
Wang Chul didn’t withdraw his attention from the survivors and because of this, he was able to observe something else through his binoculars.
More than twenty meters behind the survivors were outlines of animals. He couldn’t clearly recognize them but their size were bigger than dogs.
Out of a sudden, one of these animals were able to catch up with one of the survivors.
Wang Chul and everyone present could hear the echoes of a loud cry.
Wang Chul remembered the words his Boss Lin had said in the morning.
‘If you see animals outside the base and they are appear aggressive towards humans, kill them.’
Wang Chul fired without hesitation.
More and more animals appeared within his vision and he immediately issued an order.
Among these survivors were Auntie Yang, her husband and their son, Dan Dan.

They became emotional at the sounds of bullets. They couldn’t see the road ahead but only followed the lights.
After another two, the first survivor emerged from the fog and when he saw the jeep, he waved his hands in the air.
“Help!”
Following him was Auntie Yang and her family.
The rescue team hopped outside and assisted them to the jeep. “Hurry up!”
However, not only the survivors emerged, but also the hidden animals in the fog.
They were a pack of snarling wolves with thick white and grey furs, long canines dripping with saliva and red eyes.
They snarled and pounced on the officers and the survivors.
Wang Chul’s voice reverberated in the rescue team’s comm.
“Be ready and fire!”
The checkpoint was filled with sounds of gunshots.
Upon rescuing all the survivors, the jeeps drove off back to the gates while the soldiers on the rear fend off the wolves.
Some of them end up getting injured by the wolves’ claws.
“Mom! Mom!” Dan Dan cried loudly.
“It’s okay Dan Dan. We’re already safe. It will stop in a while. “Auntie Yang crouched down and covered her son’s ears. Her husband gathered them into his hug.
These wolves upon seeing their pack members getting injured one by one became more aggressive and tried to chase the jeep.
The base residents never saw such large wolves in their entire life. It was almost the height of an adult human being!
“Damn, are those even still wolves? They looked like giant bears!”
“Where did they come from?”
Wang Chul and the officers were also astounded. Besides from their unusual size, these wolves were surprisingly fast.
The moment the jeeps entered the gates, Wang Chul quickly said to his team to use grenades.
The wolves that were hit by the grenades were heavily injured.
They whimpered and stopped trying to jump over the walls.
Wang Chul thought the wolves not give up but at the sound of a loud eerie howl.
Before even Wang Chul could kill one, they retreated and even dragged the heavily injured ones back to the fog.
This encounter made him ponder deeply on Lin Weihao’s reminder.
After hearing Lin Weihao’s story, Nanzhi knew it would not be a simple dungeon this time.
Feng Ran, Bingwen, Yu Baoyin, and Hei Qian couldn’t prolong their bath because they also noticed the fog.
They quickly returned to 2103.
Nanzhi and Lin Weihao had already prepared the dinner.
The dinner was very rich.
Spicy pickled cucumbers, Chow Mein stir fried with chunks of dried beef jerky, strings of cucumber, beef jerky stew with potatoes, and a plate of assorted dried fruits.
“They look so yummy!” Yu Baoyin occupied the spot near Nanzhi.
It was not appropriate to discuss a bad news during dinner but after everyone had a hearty meal, Lin Weihao revealed the upsetting news.
“We might have to spend winter in this place.” His voice was laced with a heavy note.
“Winter?” Yu Baoyin was stunned.
