Chapter 98: Radioactive Alien Beasts’ Cells
The survivors in the opposite buildings have hesitation wondering outside.

The moment the cold air brushed their skin, they inhaled sharply and shuddered.

Holy Cow! It’s so cold!

They quickly returned to their buildings and wore another set of clothes.

When it’s not enough, they huddled near the bonfire, warming their selves.

“Brother, why did it become so colder than yesterday?”

The others who have heard Xiao Cao’s statement grinned.

This corpse is more than a day old but its cell tissue are still alive and kicking, no different than when it’s alive.

The Pearl City had no power plant that runs on coal or fossil fuels.

It relies on renewable energy like wind power, hydropower and solar farm to supply the power grids.

It was unlikely for the Eurasian Wolf to be affected by radiation in Pearl City’s soil unless if the streams and river area or even the air already contaminated with radioactive elements from offshore and neighboring cities.

If that’s the case, the bodies of water is no longer safe anymore.

“Most importantly, I found this behind its glabella when I was dissecting its head.” Professor Zhang Heng showed them a petri dish.

On it was a shiny medium blue turquoise gemstone, just a bit bigger than the nail on his index finger.

The colonel leaned closer and when he saw the beautiful shiny stone, his brows wrinkled.

His first thought is, it was the job of a gem smuggling syndicate, using wolves to avoid customs.

But the place where the gem was found was without a hint of surgical scar which erased this assumption.

After all, no matter how advanced medical technology, no one will be able to putt a gem inside an animal without leaving a trace.

“Can a gem grow inside animals besides from clams or oyster?”

“Mollusks produce pearls by secreting layers of calcium carbonate around irritants that get trapped in their shells which is called nacre but this stone doesn’t contain carbon. I can’t identity its chemical composition.”

Wang Chul tilted his head and perked his ears, listening to their conversation.

“Do you need more time or do you want us to catch another specimen for you?” The colonel asked. He wanted to get to the bottom of this, and any information is crucial.

Professor Zhang Heng shook his head. “I’m an animal geneticist. Our study is how genes affect traits in animals like growth, reproduction, behaviour, and immunity. If I want further research materials I need this wolf’s ancestry and past data about it. I’m sorry if I couldn’t help more.”

Capturing the wolf’s parents, siblings, and grandparents would be too much to ask.

Colonel Tang showed signs of disappointment but still thank Professor Zhang Heng’s contribution. “Thank you Professor Zhang for sparing your time. We’ll take your concerns to the higher ups.”

“No problem. If you need help my help again, just call me.” Professor Zhang Heng took off the gloves and his medical gown when he remembered something.

He turned around and said to Colonel Tang, “I think I know someone who can help.”
