Chapter 184: CHAPTER 183 – Alex and the Beast 2.
“Come.”
The moment Alex’s taunt was heard, the viper lunged at him with terrifying speed. It was still invisible, but Alex could feel its massive body coiling and snapping through the air like a whip.
Woosh!
Alex barely dodged to the side, feeling the rush of wind as the viper’s fangs grazed past him. The ground beneath cracked from the sheer force of its strike.
Alex, however, didn’t have the luxury of rest.
The viper was relentless in its assault, attacking repeatedly with no pause between its strikes.
“Hisss!!!” It would hiss in anger every time it missed.
Unlike before, where it had tried to stay invisible most of the time, the beast was slowly increasing the time of its visibility.
The beast was phasing in and out a lot more than before. It acted purely out of rage, but it still wouldn’t jump into its death. The only reason it was doing this was because it had judged itself to be stronger than Alex.
The reason that it wanted Alex dead was also the reason, of course.
Alex was using every ability in his arsenal to increase his speed since increasing his strength wouldn’t be possible unless he were to use his physique—something he wanted to keep as a last resort.
“Growl!” The viper growled, its frustration growing as it lunged at Alex, its heavy body intending to smash Alex into a meat paste.
It just couldn’t catch Alex. He was like a bee, avoiding its strikes while poking holes in its defenses with his sword.
“Haha! Thanks for materializing!” Alex exclaimed, smashing his feet on the ground, causing green veins to shoot toward the viper, taking it by surprise.
But Alex didn’t waste a second, sending tens of fireballs and thunderbolts toward the beast, wanting to cause as much damage as possible.
“HISS!!!!!!!!” The viper hissed in pain, its body thrashing around when its eyes caught Alex rushing at it, his sword glowing with a silvery aura.
A bloodthirsty glint passed through its reptilian eyes as it shot its free tail toward Alex at breakneck speed.
“Shit!” Looking at the incoming attack, Alex quickly changed his sword into a shield, bracing for the impact.
Boom-Crack!
“Ghhh!” Verathian cracked, its shattered pieces piercing Alex’s arms as Alex skidded across the ground, crashing into a broken pillar.
‘Damn… its strength is too much!’ Alex gritted his teeth, finding himself embedded into the pillar.
Alex had multiplied the gravity of the surroundings by 5X, yet the beast was this fast.
‘Well, I guess I should’ve expected this from an eight-star, star connection realm beast,’ he growled in pain, his body twitching.
Yes, the beast had eight stars, and it was way too strong.
[Alex! Move!] Sophie’s urgent voice broke Alex out of his musing as he quickly flipped back onto his feet.
Woosh-Baam!
The moment he rolled away from the pillar, the viper crashed into it, its fangs biting into it with full force.
Alex’s healing breath worked tirelessly, mending his wounds bit by bit, but this was quickly becoming a battle of attrition.
Both parties try their best to maximize the damage on their enemies, failing miserably.
[Alex. The commotion must’ve already attracted a lot of attention. If this keeps up—]

‘I know, Sophie!’ Alex snapped internally, but he had no time to focus on that.
The viper struck again, and he barely managed to deflect it with Verathian, his entire arm shaking from the impact. His sword arm felt numb with just the weight behind the attack. If this kept going, he would be the one losing.
The viper coiled again, its translucent form flickering back into invisibility. But Alex didn’t panic. His mind raced as he tried to think of a solution. His eyes darting around for anything that could be made use of.
Then, his eyes shone, his gaze landing on the entrance of the trial grounds—the large stone gate standing ominously behind the viper.
‘That’s it.’ His mind clicked.
He recalled how the imperial vampire had told him about the dissolving viper. It was the guardian beast of the trial ground. A trial ground that was only accessible to the vampires.
The viper wasn’t just attacking him out of anger. It was still fulfilling its duty. It stopped Alex, who didn’t have vampire blood, from entering the trial ground.
It attacked him because it didn’t want him to reach the gate.
Alex’s lips curled into a smirk. ‘If I can’t kill it head-on… I’ll make it expose itself.’
[Are you sure about it?] Sophie asked, somewhat worried. What Alex was trying to do was a great idea, but by doing so, Alex would be exposing his back to the beast.
There was no guarantee that the viper, filled with rage, wouldn’t attack Alex.
‘I don’t have any other choice, do I?’ A weary smile tugged at his lips as he rushed to the gate.
He stopped trying to dodge the viper’s attack, focusing solely on sprinting straight for the trial ground entrance.
The reaction was instant.
“HISSS!!!!!!” The viper let out a deafening hiss, its body snapping forward like a battering ram. Its rage was still there, but now it had a clear goal—stopping him.
‘Gotcha.’ Alex grinned. He could clearly see the beast’s destination was the gate and not him.
The beast’s eyes were filled with unwillingness as if it were doing this against its will, but it worked for Alex nonetheless.
Just as the viper lunged, Alex twisted mid-air, slashing Verathian—healed back to its prime state—in a wide arc, enhanced with a condensed aura. At the same time, he released a burst of fireballs and thunderbolts, but unlike before, these attacks weren’t meant to scatter—they were precisely aimed straight at the gate.
The viper’s destination was fixed; it was easier for Alex to plan his attacks now.
“Hiss!” Just as he had thought, the viper hissed at him; its body materialized in front of the door, trying to block Alex, only to have its eyes widen the moment it saw the fireballs and thunderbolts that were about to strike it.
Boom!
The combined assault landed squarely on the viper’s now-materialized body. Flames erupted, crackling against its scales, while lightning bolts surged through its massive form. The viper shrieked, its body convulsing from the sheer damage.
Alex didn’t waste a second.
Using the momentum of his attack, he propelled himself forward, past the writhing beast. The viper attempted to recover, but its body reeled from the damage.
Woosh!
It lashed out in a last-ditch effort, throwing its heavy tail at Alex, but Alex’s speed was too much.
With one final leap, Alex crossed through the entrance.
The moment his foot touched the other side, a surge of energy swept through the air, and the viper’s enraged hiss was cut off as if it had struck an invisible barrier. Alex turned just in time to see the beast thrash violently before collapsing to the ground, gravely injured but still alive. Its glowing eyes burned with fury, but it could no longer reach him.
Panting, Alex rolled his shoulder, feeling the last traces of his healing breath patching him up as he saw the gate closing on its own.
“That was close,” he muttered, his gaze settling on the deeper darkness ahead. “Let’s see… what else this place has in store for me.”
With a final glance at the closed gate, Alex stepped forward, vanishing into the unknown.
