Chapter 72: CHAPTER 71 – Things settled… for now.
The moment Theron asked that question, the situation tensed. Everyone in the room has their own thoughts. Especially the teachers, as they didn’t want the higher-ups to investigate the scene.
Theron, on the other hand, grew increasingly suspicious of their actions as they, the teachers who are supposed to listen to their words, were right now trying to show something else.
“We aren’t saying that he is lying—” The female teacher, looking at the situation, hurriedly tried to step in, as she didn’t want to get on the bad side of the Aegisfolk race behind Argon, but Alex, who was already expecting these types of responses, cut her off.
“You see, my respected teachers, if you were to take these corpses with you, once my mother is made aware of the incident, she would come looking for these corpses at your place…” The moment his words were heard, the teachers froze, especially when Vanessa was mentioned.
“…she would be quite angry at these two corpses,” Alex continued as he pointed at the corpses. “And she might just be looking for an outlet to let out that anger, so…” He paused, shrugging dramatically as he added, “If you guys think that you would be able to calm her down, then you are free to take the corpses.”
His words weren’t a direct threat, but the mere mention of Vanessa was enough to send chills down the spines of the two fourth-year teachers, beads of sweat forming on their temples. Even more so when she would be angry, and it would be worse if she knew they were the two she had asked to look after her son.
‘W-What the hell do we do?!’ Exchanged a look of uncertainty and doubt, they thought about their next course of action with a grim look.
They couldn’t let Theron send the information to the higher-ups about this attack before they informed their higher-ups about it.
With how things were, they weren’t even sure if this really was a planned attack or if Alex was just pushing the blame on these teachers, so with a final exchange of glance, they nodded their heads.
“We will be taking our leaves, then.” The female teacher nodded to Theron, and the male teacher, before they could say anything, added, “I don’t think the situation is hard enough for you guys to not be able to handle it on your own.”
With those words, they didn’t even wait for replies from Theron, Alex, Fenna, or Zahara and turned around, leaving the place as fast as possible; their steps hurried as if they feared being stopped.
Those actions made Theron frown again, but he couldn’t really say something against their actions. They were fourth-year teachers, not just some first- or second-year ones who’d have to show respect to the council pillars or heads.
They were here upon respect, and although the student council pillars and heads don’t have to greet them as common courtesy, the fourth-year teachers don’t have to do it either.
It was only when they saw those teachers gone and silence settled that Alex’s sharp gaze flickered toward the window. He’d seen Reganath leave—but he said nothing. Fenna and Zahara, on the other hand, after holding their breaths this entire time, finally sighed in relief.
“Hah…” X2
It was as if a huge weight had been lifted off their shoulders, making them let loose of their expression.
“…thank you, Alex.” Zahara, leaning back on Alex, spoke with the same sweet smile, and Alex, looking at that, just patted her head and curved his lips as well. “You don’t have to thank me, Zahara.”
“Damn, that was hard…” Fenna, on the other hand, threw her hand behind her head and groaned, messaging her cheeks, which had grown stiff due to her keeping up the serious face. “It was really hard to keep up the act, you know.”
Her eyes grudgingly stared at Alex as she grumbled, “You didn’t even tell me to get prepared.”
“Haha, sorry about that, Fenna, but as you know, I had no other option.” Alex, in reply, just chuckled, shaking his head before looking into her eyes with a smile. “I knew I could trust you to keep up, and you did keep up.”
“So, thank you for not letting me down.”
His sincere expression and his words made Fenna both embarrassed and at a loss for words.
“W-Well…” She didn’t even know what to say in response, but before she could even come up with a reply, Theron, standing by the side, frowned as his lips moved. “What is going on here?”
The moment his question was heard was the moment Alex, Fenna, and Zahara’s expressions turned serious, and Alex replied, “We will need to gather everyone. This is important.”
They needed to tell all the council pillars about it because lying and hiding from them would only make things worse.
The next second, Alex, recalling the genuine expressions Theron had when defending him a while ago as if he had something else in his mind, added, “And I think you guys have something to tell me as well.”
Alex could tell that it was something important, probably related to the fact that Theron had directly decided to take this matter to the higher-ups, which referred to the vice principals or the head of the student council.
This situation wasn’t normal. Something was definitely going on.
“Hm.” Theron, nodding his head and glancing at Fenna again, only to see her staring at Zahara with envy, frowned a bit before he took out a spherical device—the communication device—and spoke into it.
“Gather in the council hall.”

That was all he spoke before keeping the device away, and then, as he saw Zahara still hugging Alex, he knew that at least they made up, and from the way she was smiling, she seemed to be happier than ever.
“Let us go, Fenna. Let them be alone for a while.” He spoke before walking away, and Fenna, after glancing at Alex with reluctance, followed behind as well.
She knew that it would be insensitive not to even give both of them a bit of alone time, especially after all they had been through.
Alex, on the other hand, while patting Zahara, stared back into the horizon straight out of the window in front of his cabin’s door. There was no one there, but Alex knew very well that this was the path taken by Reganath.
After all, as said before, unlike Fenna and Zahara, he’d seen Reganath leaving, and way ahead in that path, out of Alex’s view and perception range, was Reganath, walking forward with a nostalgic smile on his face.
Recalling Alex’s wide back and his words, he couldn’t help but shake his head with a soft smile, his gaze turning toward the sky as he spoke, ‘Our daughter found a really good man, Zilda.’
When he had seen and heard Alex back then, making the promise, something inside him had stirred. He was reminded about how weak he was before. How weak he was to not ever being able to make a promise like that for Zelda. How weak he was to not get Zilda the place she deserved.
He found himself looking back on all of it, wondering if things would’ve been different—if Zilda would still have been alive—if he had been like Alex before. As a man, he could tell that Alex’s words weren’t just empty words, after all—the only reason he listened to Alex’s words.
‘He’s way better than me.’
Recalling the fearless look in his eyes, Reganath chuckled, ‘A bit reckless as well, but I like him.’
‘You can’t be a spineless pipsqueak to be able to claim my daughter’s heart after all.’ With a shake of his head, he paused, sighing as it had taken him a while to realize that her daughter loved the guy instead of hating him.
The fact that she was crying before was just a lover’s quarrel—a tamer version of what he and Zilda used to have.
‘I will be waiting for you to come to my kingdom, Alex.’ With that being the final thought in his head, he decided to return to his kingdom. His surprise visit to Zahara had given him more surprise than he could hope for. He didn’t want any more of them. It wouldn’t be good for his heart, after all.
