Chapter 312: Level up
“Arthur Fate.”

The name hung in the air like smoke from a funeral pyre.

The boy who broke everything.

Director Hawthorne activated a wall display. Arthur’s image filled the screen.

“Thousands of followers. Global recognition. Powerful talent, most likely space talent based on the surveillance or an item that allows him to control space.”

Each fact landed like hammer blows.

“When the merge completes, he becomes one of the most powerful individuals on Earth.”

“More powerful than any of us.”

“Which brings us to the central question,” One of them said. “What do we do about him?”

Silence stretched taut as each leader processed the implications. Their carefully constructed world order faced extinction at the hands of a single individual.

A powerful monster they’d helped create through their own cruelty.

A Defence Secretary spoke first. “He’s a talent we cannot lose in the upcoming trials.”

“Consider the mathematics,” He continued, data flowing across his tablet. “Global catastrophe approaches. Reality merger. Unknown threats from Armageddon’s ecosystem.”

He gestured to the mutation reports covering the table.

“We need powerful, awakened individuals. Arthur Fate represents the apex of that power.”

“Eliminating him would be strategically suicidal.”

One of the people seated shook her head sharply. “You’re assuming he’ll cooperate. Every intelligence report suggests the opposite.”

Her fingers traced surveillance footage showing Arthur’s hospital rampage.

“This individual slaughtered medical personnel to rescue his sister. He’s systematically destroying our information control. He’s building a private army.” Her accent thickened with anger.

“He’s not an ally—he’s an enemy.”

It was her fear speaking. Understandable fear.

“Madame President speaks truth. Arthur Fate threatens our entire world order.”

The German leader activated his own display—economic projections showing governmental collapse scenarios.

“He’s ambitious, charismatic, despite his young age, allowing him to amass a large following rapidly. We’ve seen this pattern before. It’s the same traits of cult leaders who destabilise nations.

A leader laughed bitterly.

“Cult leaders don’t possess supernatural abilities.”

“When the merge happens,” Hartwell continued, “traditional military forces become obsolete. Nuclear weapons? They are a self-destructive tool.

“We’re not discussing a political threat. We’re discussing an existential one.”

President Feng had remained silent, observing the debate with calculating eyes. Now he spoke.

“Perhaps the question is not what we do about Arthur Fate, but whether we remain united at all.”

The nuclear option.

Shocked silence greeted his words.

“China withdraws from this alliance,” Feng announced with diplomatic finality. “We will pursue independent negotiations with Arthur Fate.”

“You’re abandoning the coalition?”

“I’m adapting to reality.” Feng’s smile held no warmth. “Arthur Fate will reshape the world whether we like it or not. China chooses to be on the winning side.”

Dominos beginning to fall.

President Dubois stood abruptly. “If China withdraws, France follows.”

“Madame President—” Reynolds began.

“No.” Her voice cut like steel. “France will not sacrifice itself for American pride.”

“You’re all making a mistake,” One of the leaders who were against Arthur said.

“He’s one person. Dangerous, yes, but still mortal.”

“We created this monster! We can destroy it!”

President Feng rose gracefully, silk suit rustling in the sterile conference room air. His expression held the patience of someone who’d already decided the outcome.

“You created something you couldn’t control. That’s your problem now.”

President Dubois gathered her documents.

“We will also pursue our own independent channels.”

The remaining leaders exchanged uncertain glances.

President Morrison’s face cycled through emotions. The alliance they had spent creating for generations crumpled faster than a glasshouse attacked by rocks.

“Dubois? Are you serious?” Morrison’s voice cracked slightly. “You’re abandoning decades of cooperation for a terrorist?”

“We’re adapting to new realities, Mr. President. France recommends you do the same.”

The door closed behind Feng and Dubois, leaving the others inside.

Silence stretched between the remaining powers.

“Perhaps they have the right idea.”

Prime Minister Hartwell’s head snapped up. “You’re considering withdrawal?”

“I’m considering survival.” Weber’s German accent thickened with stress.

“We can’t negotiate with terrorists.”

“Is he really a terrorist?” One of them muttered.

Labelling everyone who turned against them as terrorists was a known strategy, it wouldn’t work in that room.

“He’s one person! One angry child with a grudge!” Spittle flew with each word. “We have armies! Nuclear weapons! Satellites!”

“We can’t use-”

“Yes, we can! Who said we can’t? A sacrifice for the greater good. He will break our world order, turning everything into chaos. ”

Director Hawthorne remained silent throughout the exchange, studying classified reports with hollow eyes. When the arguing subsided, he cleared his throat.

“There’s something else,” he said quietly.

All heads turned toward him.

“Our operatives inside Village #420 report massive preparation activities.” Hawthorne’s voice dropped to near-whisper. “Arthur Fate isn’t just building a guild.”

Expectant silence.

“He’s building a government.”

Outside the Pentagon’s reinforced walls, military forces received contradictory orders.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

The countdown to convergence marched onward, indifferent to human schemes and desperate plans.

In her hospital bed, Charlotte slept peacefully, unaware that her brother’s love had shattered nations.

The price of protecting what matters most.
