Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 107
Chapter 107: Enemy
There is someone among the teachers with an evil class…
And that someone is…
‘Well… I hope she didn’t take it to heart.
It mustn’t be simple to find out someone you trust has been secretly plotting against you.
I just hope things sort out well…’
Hans was really worried about her, but intervening wouldn’t be of any help, the problem was hers to solve.
That night, a summon from the dean was sent to Jackson’s office, really strange considering they were just a couple dozen meters apart.
Anyway, he left his room and started heading towards Ava’s office.
While walking, he passed by the huge window on the left side of the corridor and watched the scenery outside.
The sun had already disappeared, and not even a hint of its light was visible anymore, instead, in the sky, half-covered by the various clouds, was shining a crescent moon.
No one was walking outside, and the streets were empty, there wasn’t even a shadow of the once lively academy now that the curfew had been issued.
It had been like that for a while already, but it was still difficult to get used to.
‘I still need to have dinner’ thought Jackson.
‘I mean, what did she even summon me for? I’m pretty sure it has something to do with what happened a couple of days ago…
I remember it, Hans was carrying her while she was unconscious, and the direction they came from was unusual.
The innermost part of the woods…
What were they doing there?
Did they perhaps fight? If so why?
Hmm, maybe he has discovered that we hold his secret.
Something was strange with him though, he sensed me while I was on that tree, wasn’t he supposed to be barely fifth rank?
I get that mages have higher wisdom and can enhance senses with that, but it would be impossible to notice me unless he had some kind of tracking spell.
To keep a spell like that active even after a battle… is simply impossible.
Oh well
I’ll discover what it was soon enough.’
While Jackson was making his inner monologue, in her office, the dean was troubled with else.
She had no intention of speaking about what had happened, she had just summoned Jackson to question him.
Who was more trustworthy? Hans or Jackson?
Even if she had just fought a life and death battle with him, Hans’s words were still difficult to trust, he was a young man who held many secrets, and the fact that his words accused Jackson of being a traitor made them even more difficult to believe.
She had to trust her gut, and this time, her gut decided that…
“May I?”

Came a voice from outside.
It was Jackson, who didn’t even bother to knock on the door, after all, he was quite familiar with Ava, and outside work matters, they were almost considered friends.
A little bed of sweat ran down her forehead before she gulped and replied:
“Of course, come in”
The door soon opened, revealing the tired man behind it.
Seeing her colleague made her almost change her mind, but in the end, after a few moments of hesitation, she managed to gather up all the necessary willpower to act.
‘If I’m wrong… he could die.
But…. If I’m not…
I am sorry’
“What have you called me here fo-”
The dean had silently gathered up some of her sword aura, and as soon as she got over the mental obstacle, she dashed forward, getting up from her seat and completely smashing the desk in front of her.
In just a few fragments of a second, she appeared in front of Jackson, whose eyes surprisingly managed to follow her movement.
Ava noticed this, and it brought immense pain to her heart.
‘Jackson so you…’
He was sent flying from the blow, barely managing to parry it with his arms.
The wall behind the entrance to the dean’s room was destroyed, as the man was blown outside of the building.
She soon followed him, landing in a grass field just beside the office.
With her face barely managing to hold in the tears, she completed the phrase she had started in her head.
“…really are part of the Red Tyranny”
A couple of seconds of silence accompanied the dean’s words, but a reply then came…
The man who should’ve been gravely injured was perfectly fine, and finally showing his face by bringing down his arms he said:
“Why? Why did you have to figure it out? Damn it! It was all going perfectly!
Was it that piece of shit?!”
Ava almost had a breakdown hearing him talk like that, she had already figured, but seeing the truth a second time can be as painful as facing it for the first time.
He was an enemy.
“I thought I did a pretty good job, did someone sell me out?”
While speaking confidently, he was frowning on the inside, he had been discovered, and couldn’t fake the truth anymore, he had to get out of there as soon as possible and as quickly as possible, his hands were now tied by the powerful woman in front of him, but if he had managed to enrage her even more, maybe he could’ve found a way to slip out while she went mad.
Escaping from a sane top S-rank was far from his wildest imagination.
“I should’ve killed ‘him’ that day, letting Scarlet Evans live would’ve been my choice if only I had known he was part of the night market.”
The weak spot of the dean was once again touched.
Scarlet Evans, she was really serious and annoying on the job, but even if working under her, she had been the senior and mentor of Ava.
They got on pretty bad terms in the last few years, so when hearing of her death the dean didn’t cause such a ruckus, but on the inside, she sometimes missed her.
The fact that she died protecting students against an unidentified attacker was suspicious, but it brought honor to her name, so Ava left the matter alone.
Now that she discovered the truth… her sanity really started to falter.
The impulse to smash the man’s head on the ground was incredibly tempting, but she still had some things she wanted to know.
“Is that your real age?”
The man was surprised to hear the question.
“Fuck! How much do you know?”
‘How is it possible? I have never told anyone about my real age, and my past should appear buried even for the government, not to talk about someone like her.
Is it the night market again?
How much do they know?
Do they perhaps have someone with an omniscient class? or a prophet maybe?
Whatever it is, I must report back, it is really important information.
If I manage to get it back, now that a place has been freed I might be promoted to one of the Numbers.’
“Bam” a beam of sword aura formed around Ava’s sword before being unleashed against the man, who barely managed to avoid it by stepping aside.
Where the attack clashed with the ground, a groove formed.
‘This woman… she’s fricking strong.
Do I have to…
Well, no turning back now! living a couple of years less is better than dying now.’
“Don’t think you’ll get away with this!” he shouted.
{scarifice}
A red point of aura formed in the middle of the man’s palm.
{number of years:
….
…
..
10}
The point soon became a line, then a triangle, then a square… changing shapes many times a second until becoming a decagon.
When the number of corners in the shape reached ten, the red aura that was fluctuating above the man’s palm sunk deep into his flesh.
Just a few instances later, starting from his opposite hand and foot, his body became smaller and covered in wrinkles, and when the whole body had undergone this transformation, the aura the man gave off wasn’t far from that of an S-rank.
In front of him, the dean watched this scene disgusted and horrified by it, and as she did, the words Hans told her earlier, came back to her mind.
“Be careful, his real strength isn’t in the lower A-ranks, but in the uppers, and he can probably increase it with his evil skill.
It is a skill that allows him to sacrifice his lifespan in order to grow stronger, and he has already done it a couple of times.
Even the Jackson you see now is nothing but an aged version of the real him, he has already used up twenty years of his life, but in front of you, he might choose to consume even more, so be careful, as soon as you see his body aging, make sure to keep in mind that his powers won’t be the same as they were before.”
At the time, she couldn’t believe what she heard, but now that it was happening in front of her eyes…
Jackson, whose hair was now white, charged a punch behind his side, gathering most of the energy in his body.
And the dean who saw this, put up raised her arms in defense.
“Hey Ava…” said the old man smiling.
“… try to parry this!”
