Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 112
Chapter 112: Little gift
“Ah”
…
“When has this been decided?”
“I just asked him yesterday afternoon because there weren’t any volunteers, and he accepted”
“Okay then, good night”
“Oood aight” (good night) mumbled the woman yawning while walking away.
‘I got scared for a second there, now that Jackson isn’t here anymore, we can only rely on Hans for the improbable gate raid.’
She watched the piles of papers on her desk and thought:
‘I better get to work, or else I won’t finish for tonight’
In the meantime, Hans, Caleb, and all the students had already arrived at the airport and they were about to board their flights.
The students were excited since for some of them it was their first time flying.
Truth to be told, only for a few it was their first time, since most of them came from wealthy families.
Hans watched the group of Aiden wander around searching for something to buy with the money they had been given from the association.
And when he least expected it, someone sneaked up behind him.
It wasn’t a surprise because Hans had already sensed them, but a couple of his students were trying to catch him off guard.
“Hello teacher”
Said one of them from behind.
“Hello Claire, how is it going?”
The girl was holding both her hands behind her back as if hiding them from Hans.
And her smile was really wide, just like the ones of her classmates just behind her.
Most of the magic class students had come both from the first and the second class.
But from the second class, Ryan couldn’t tag along because of his parents, and for the first class, Colton, Austin, and Kai couldn’t participate because of their families or grades.
Other than them, many others couldn’t come because of their lower grades, but there were still way more students from the magic classes and other classes than from the physical education one.
That was because of their low exam scores, it was to the point where only two students managed to pass the requirements:
David, the guy who also attended Hans’s classes, and who was sent to the infirmary on the first day of school, and Matthew Campbell, the first student of the physical class, the one to face off against Colton during the class competition, and the only student who managed to remain conscious long enough to see Hans use his powers.
He was now far away, observing Hans’s every movement and action with a suspicious glare.
“Hey teacher”
“What is it, Logan?”
Asked Hans.
“We have prepared a little something for you, and we hope that you won’t refuse it”

‘Huh? Why are they saying something like this? What could they have prepared?”
Another person spoke up, it was Lila, who said:
“That’s right, it’s a thank-you gift for everything you have taught us”
Even if Hans had taught them a lesser version of it, he had still given them the basis for the {lotus meditation} and the fact that they could now gather mana and improve their wisdom without having to enter gates would’ve put them one step ahead of everyone else.
Not to talk about the fact that they could regenerate their mana almost thrice as fast while meditating.
There is a fundamental difference between mana and wisdom.
While mana can be spent, and used, wisdom cannot.
For example, If a mage were to use many spells, and empty his mana, they would then need to wait a couple of days for it to replenish completely.
Wisdom is like a barrier, that indicates the maximum level of mana one can hold.
Wisdom also improves one’s mana affinity and mana control, that is why, even if a high-ranking mage found themselves in a situation where they are facing off against someone with more remaining mana than them, but less wisdom, they could still possibly win.
With that in mind, a skill that can improve your wisdom in the long term, and recover your mana in the short term, is the rarest treasure a mage could ever dream of.
Even if they were young, the students still understood this.
“This is from all of us”
Said Claire, finally bringing her hands forward to reveal what she was hiding behind her back.
It was a little black box, it looked luxurious, almost like the one that contained the golden dragon scales.
This made him almost refuse the gift, how could he accept something so valuable from his students? But…
Their words asking him to accept it made him change his idea.
He took up the box.
“Should I open it here?”
This question made most of them ask each other the same thing, but Claire spoke up, interrupting the chatter.
“No, there are a lot of people here, open it when you return after the trip, that way you will be reminded of us”
‘If he were to open it here…
I’m afraid he would just give it back to us’
Everyone was happy with the answer she gave, and the trip continued as before.
Hans however, questioned himself about what could be in the box for them to act like that.
‘Should I just open it?’
This thought crossed Hans’s head a couple of times, but he decided to resist the temptation:
‘Forget it, I’ll do as they asked me to’
Other than him, Matthew who had seen the scene from afar, was also dying to know what was inside that box.
In a couple of minutes, they had all boarded, and the plane was ready to take off.
Half of the plane seats were taken by the academy’s students and the two teachers, so the flight began with chaotic chatter and laughter.
After a few hours, the students toned down, and some of them slept, while some took the chance to read books or listen to music.
The spirits of all the students were destroyed by the time they landed, because, after almost twelve hours of flight, their legs felt paralyzed, and their ears were ringing.
From the airport Tokyo Narita, they took the express and arrived at Japan’s second airport, Haneda, about two hours later.
From there, they took a six-hour flight, arriving at Sapporo, In Hokkaido.
They planned on arriving the same day, but having traveled for a whole day, the students begged for a bit of rest.
Since it was almost midnight, Hans and Caleb decided to stop in a hotel a couple of kilometers away from the airport, and all the students gladly accepted the offer.
They could’ve slept on the flights, but since there were TVs in both airplanes most of them preferred to watch films and TV shows instead of resting.
The next morning, once replenished their energy and positivity, they took a bus, that brought them straight to the Japanese academy.
It was situated in the middle of the island, and while going there, the students had a chance to look around and take a couple of photos.
It was Hans’ first time in Japan, so he was also interested in the surrounding landscape and buildings.
While for Caleb, it was the third time making the trip in the last ten days, since he had been sent there as an envoy for the dean a couple of days ago.
When they arrived, something immediately stood out in between the beautiful fields of flowers and grass: in the distance, numerous glass and metal buildings were covering the view.
However, the stain of gray in the green fields didn’t deny its beauty.
The buildings all looked brand new, almost like the ones commonly seen in business districts.
The only difference was the height since most of the buildings didn’t rise up above the third floor.
It was probably done on purpose, to leave the view of the clear blue sky to the students and the teachers.
The scale of the place was completely different from America’s one.
It must’ve been at least thrice as large.
After all, Japan had started its courses five years earlier, and there were a total of five classes:
-the first class: the class of students recruited five years earlier, the students started at the age of 14-15 and were currently 19-20.
-The second class: the students were recruited three years prior, at the age of 14, currently seventeen.
-the third class: students recruited two years earlier at the age of 14, currently 16
And then the fourth and fifth classes, which students had been recruited the year prior, and this year.
The students were respectively 15 and 14.
Since there were about seventy students per class, there were almost thrice as many compared to the American academy, and the same went for the teachers.
The bus left them at the entrance of the main street, where the luggage of the students was being unloaded.
In the meantime, Hans, and leading him, Caleb, met a lady, who held in her hands a little clipboard and a pen.
She bowed her head slightly before greeting:
“Nice to meet you, you may call me Saki, I am the gate management teacher, I am glad to welcome you…
To the Japanese Academy.”
