Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 113
Chapter 113: Discrimination
“I welcome you… to the Japanese Academy”
She then proceeded to lead them, and the group of Americans stood out among the many observant eyes.
The Japanese students looked at them skeptically, and a couple of unfriendly glares were all it took for some of the guys to feel out of place.
As for others, for example, David Miller, it was nothing but a provocation.
He stared back at a couple of students who were watching them, before asking them:
“Hell are you looking at?”
Leaving the three of them shocked.
The walk toward the dorms was quite uncomfortable, they felt like a fish out of the sea… as if they didn’t belong there.
Caleb completely ignored this, but the same could not be said about Hans, who, as soon as given the chance, asked whether something was wrong:
“Here, as you’ve already been shown, this is where the students will be residing for these four weeks.
There will be a supervisor and a night guardian, so you won’t have to worry about any accidents happening to them”
“Thank you” replied Caleb, while Hans, instead of remaining on the useless talk, decided to ask a really direct question.
“Hey, I don’t mean to be rude by asking this, but.. Has something happened here?”
The woman’s fave twitched a bit, before giving her reply:
“This… I am sorry, we didn’t mean to.
I hoped the students wouldn’t take it to heart, and hide these kinds of emotions, but they have all been shaken during the past few months.
For you to notice it as soon as you walk into this Academy, we must’ve been extremely hostile.”
Hans’s questions had taken the attention of all the students, who focused on hearing the reply.
“It happened a few months ago, more specifically, three months ago.
When the winter vacation ended, we had a class exchange with a European branch, and the students all remained really shocked.
We had a few of them drop out of school, and some of them were in the infirmary up to last week.
And it’s better not to talk about the students who went to the European branch.
Not only did most of them return here crippled or injured, but their morale had also been completely broken.
It was a real tragedy for our academy, and there is a student with an epic class who has completely lost his will to improve.
We don’t know what to do now, but we hope that by showing them that not all the Academy are like the European one they will be able to regain their lost mentality and motivation.
I truly hope this won’t transform into a source of hatred toward your students, but I assure you that I, like all the other teachers in this academy, will do my best to avoid any incidents from happening.
A couple of seconds of silence accompanied the scene until Hans spoke up:
“I see, thank you for your sincere and straightforward answer, we also hope that this event will manage to reignite their spirits.”
“Thank you”
Replied the woman.

Hans wasn’t the one in charge of remaining with the students, since that job was Caleb’s, but he was still curious about what would’ve happened in the competition at the end of the event.
Competition has always been an important part of training, having someone you can compete with, who is at a level similar to yours, can always stimulate you to do your best and improve faster than the other.
This had also been implemented among academies, meaning that at the end of every exchange, a competition was held in both academies.
Since this time it was only a “one-school” exchange, the competition was going to be held in Japan.
Meaning Hans couldn’t see it.
As soon as he returned to America, he would go on a training spree for the next three and a half months, before having to raid the improbable gate.
These two days were the last days of rest before the storm.
The students settled in their new dorms.
Seeing that the beds weren’t Castle beds made some of them happy, while others remained shocked by the toilet’s auto-warming feature.
The classes in the Japanese Academy were different, like in the European academies, they started in the afternoon, leaving the whole morning up to the students.
They had to choose one main course and two elementary courses to follow, each taking up respectively two hours and one hour each.
A student has a total of four hours of study a day, and they can then either fool around and waste the rest of their time, or access the countless training structures situated all over the Academy.
There is one structure specialized for every kind of training:
For example, one for archery, one for spear training, one for blunt weapon training, and even some for agility, strength, or mana control training.
It was really a paradise if what you wanted was to become stronger.
But of course, it only took you so far, because actual battle experience is the best kind of training one can hope for.
It was now time for the American students to attend the lessons, and for the sake of letting them understand the teachers’ explanations, they were all given a translating device.
From 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. It was time for the main courses.
Aiden had obviously picked alchemy, being the only one among the American students to choose it, he felt quite uncomfortable at the center of attention in the classroom.
As for Hans’s students, both the six from the first class and the four from the second class picked the magic class.
They weren’t interested in the contents of the lesson, they just wanted to confirm that Hans was the best teacher.
As for Grant and the rest of Aiden’s group, they opted for the physical education class, and with them were also their two seniors Matthew and David.
There were different buildings for different classes, meaning that even if students didn’t attend the same lesson, they were still in the same building as long as they practiced the same activity.
From the moment Aiden set foot in the classroom, he felt the glares of the rest of the students.
Out of the twenty younglings, at least two-thirds were throwing glances at him.
And this didn’t stop even when the teacher entered the classroom.
Aiden passed an extremely uncomfortable day, but he still wasn’t the one with the worst experience.
A brawl had broken out in the physical education classroom after David fell for an idiotic provocation.
But something even worse happened in the mage class.
In all four classes, the students were discriminated against not only by their classmates but also by their teachers.
They all passed an awful night, thinking about how difficult the day that awaited them would be.
The next morning, Logan Archer entered the classroom.
As he was walking, he tripped on the foot of one of his classmates, who had purposely extended his leg.
Falling on the floor, most of his books fell out of his arms, and right at that moment, the teacher walked in.
Seeing Logan on the floor, not only he didn’t try to help him, but he began chuckling.
Following his actions, most of the class began to blatantly laugh.
After being openly humiliated in front of the whole class, the four-eyed young man felt such shame that he wished to disappear like a ghost.
However, right behind the teacher, a latecomer entered the classroom.
David, who had been banished from the physical education class, had decided to sign up for the magic class.
He was the only one besides Logan who was sixteen, so it was the two of them in class three.
Logan had a calm and timid personality, but David was the total opposite.
Seeing the scene, he thought of the best way to piss off that human piece of shit of a teacher.
And the best way to do that was…
“HA….HAHAHAHAH”
His maniac laugh resounded over all the others in the class, shocking the students and stopping the teacher’s shitty act.
Even Logan watched his classmate incredulously, wondering if he had lost it.
“Ha…HAha”
“It must be really fucking funny right?
…
Having such a piece of shit trying to teach you”
If there was something David was the best at, it was provoking assholes, he had been one himself after all.
“What now? Huh? Dickhead, are you gonna hit me?”
Provoked again David.
“Oh no! A teacher is hitting a student!! For fuck’s sake, he must be an inferior piece of shit!
Oh right…
He was even before doing it so it won’t change much!”
The man, being in his fifties, still couldn’t take all the insults, and as his face began becoming more and more red, a lot of mana started gathering in his hand.
David saw this and thought to himself.
“He’s a teacher so he won’t do shit.”
But as the mana gathered continued to grow, David was forced to rethink.
‘He won’t do it…
Right?”
