Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 118
Chapter 118: The killer hits again
After taking the job, Naomi lived like usual for a couple of months.
During this period, he had time to familiarize himself with the newly acquired spell, realizing how good and bad it was at the same time.
It was incredibly good since it allowed him to freeze warriors and monsters up to a tier above himself without the expense of much mana.
But on the other side, it was incredibly weak, since while used on a target, the spell would act as a shield, absorbing any possible damage aimed to reach them.
This meant that the said target couldn’t be hit or injured whatsoever while frozen.
It was basically a bluff spell, one that made him seem like a strong mage while being as harmless as a bubbleblower.
The day when he would have to complete his mission was finally about to arrive, and he had prepared all the needed arrangements.
An alibi, a second plan, and a track covering magic he had requested in the second meeting with the bald man.
Finally, on a winter night, when the sun had already set by a couple of hours, he acted.
Smoothly wearing his gloves to avoid leaving any footprints, and covering his face with a black hood, he sneaked out of his bed, leaving behind fake footage of the cameras around his room.
Quietly, he managed to enter the rooms of the three students, one at a time, and after thirty minutes, he was already done.
The three of them had been frozen, and it was now time for the baldy to keep up his part of the promise.
To avoid attracting any suspicions, he
Got back to sleep without even assuring that the mission had met a good end.
The next morning…
A scream was heard throughout the whole students’s dorm, also waking up even most of the teachers, who had managed to pick the sound up with their heightened senses.
Rushing there first was Saki, who was in charge of the night shift.
She slammed open the door to one of the girls’ rooms and hurriedly asked:
“What happened?! Are you alright?!”
In front of her, was a girl fallen to her knees with tears in her eyes.
“What happened?”
“Sh-shes…”
Sobbed the student.
‘Mh? What happened? What is she watching?’
The other bed was covered by a small wardrobe and the teacher couldn’t see what was behind it.
So she took a few steps forward and grabbed the wardrobe with her hand, lying on it while switching her gaze toward the bed.
A figure wasn’t missing, but it wasn’t what she expected to find.
A broken statue of a student was lying on the bed, her body completely cracked.
It looked so real that if it had been a statue, it would’ve been a bewitching masterpiece.
But in that moment, it was just cause of horror in the eyes of the two women.

Saki touched the remnants of the broken statue, and the freezing ice felt unpleasant to the touch.
‘This is… mana! It was a spell.’
while she thought about what spell could’ve possibly been so powerful and fearsome, the scream of terrified students reached her ears.
“Aaaa!!”
‘What?! Is it another one?’
Worried, Saki immediately left the room she was staying in at the moment and ran toward the place the scream had come from.
‘It was… here!’
She opened the door, just like she had done the first time, and found another scared girl, with shock and fear painted all over her face.
She then approached the bed where her roommate should’ve been resting.
‘What in the bloody hell…
The student’s condition was the same as the first case, frozen in place, with various broken parts and cracks.
After further investigation, they found a third student dead, this one belonging to the male dorms, and the news of this anonymous murder spread all over Japan, but most of all, instilled fear into the students who at the time didn’t feel safe staying inside the Academy.
“Have you found out anything?”
Asked the dean massaging the bridge of his nose in between the eyes because of the stress.
“I am sorry”
Replied Saki.
“Haa… no, it’s okay, I didn’t expect anything at all, I’m sure you have done your work as well as you possibly could”
“No, I am ashamed, not only I couldn’t find any tracks left behind by the killer, but I am also unable to understand anything about the used spell.
I have also brought the bodies to the magic research facility, and they have told me the spell used is extremely high level, probably one of the spells gifted by the system to rare or epic classes.
We have no idea who, out of everyone in the academy could’ve done something as cruel as this.
We might have a guess, but it is unlikely true.”
“And what would it be?”
“I’m sure you’ve heard about ‘him’
He is an awakened with an evil class, and the whole world knows his name because of his strange hobby.”
“Mh?” the dean’s attention was picked, and he wondered for a second before realizing:
“That man… I hope you don’t mean that Russian crazy bastard”
Only an awkward smile came back, confirming that indeed, he was the prime suspect.
“If that’s really the case, the situation just got even more complex, he’s part of the red tyranny, right?
We can’t afford to face off against an organization as big as the association.
Do you think we should announce the shutdown of the academy for a while?”
“I think that would be the best choice for now sir”
Replied truthfully and honestly Saki.
“Alright, I will make the announcement tomorrow, so make sure to keep it a secret for now.
Who knows, maybe the matter will solve itself before we even have the chance to say it.”
“That would be good…
Said the girl sighing.
And with that almost non-existent hope, they both went to sleep in their respective rooms.
During the night, however, the ‘killer’ hit once again.
While she was sleeping, Saki received a call from her colleague.
The annoying ringing of her phone woke her up from her comfortable sleep.
Written on the screen was the name:
[Naomi, magic instructor]
Slamming her hand against the phone, she then dragged it to her ear.
‘Ugh… who is it at this hour?’ she thought to herself, without enough energy to even see the name of the caller.
With her eyes still closed, she just pressed the place where the green button was supposed to be, answering the call.
“Who is it?”
She said with a low and sleepy tone.
” Ms. Saki!!”
Said a loud and panicked voice on the phone.
“Ah! Don’t scream! What do you want?”
“I- I was taking a walk to reflect on what happened this morning, but I found another one!
Come here behind the second building! quick!”
“Found another what?! Speak clearly!”
“Another statue! I found another statue!”
This phrase completely woke her up, giving her a shot of adrenaline that made her jump out of bed and quickly dress up.
“Stay right where you are! I’ll be there in a minute!”
She threw the phone on the bed, and then quickly put her jacket on before heading out running as fast as she could.
‘Another one… these fucking bastards are targeting the kids.
Don’t let me catch you… ’cause if I do…
In the bat of an eye, she could already see the teacher in the distance, he looked as timid and scared as usual.
“Thank you for coming, I didn’t know who to call apart from you, I usually walk around this area and I freaked out when I saw the frozen statu…
“Alright alright alright, enough talking, take me there.
Is there something you think we can do?”
“Yeah, the body still wasn’t cracked so the student should still be alive”
Said Naomi while leading her out of the main street, passing a little road that led to the back of the physical education building, also labeled as building N°2.
“Maybe if she could get some heat or a bit of magic to contrast the spell…
There it is!”
He said pointing to a turn a couple of steps away from them.
“She is there”
Running, Saki stepped forward first, while the man behind her did his best to reach her in time.
She turned the corner and found in front of her a little impasse.
It was so dark, not brightened by a single light, that she couldn’t see the end of it, so she decided to walk into it.
‘There was a place this dark in the Academy? I should definitely ask for a check of the lighting system all over the facility.
Wait? Why would a student even be here?
How did the teacher find her when she was enveloped in such darkness?
Something’s fishy…
When she reached the end, she didn’t find it.
There was no statue, matter of fact, there wasn’t anything, just a regular grey floor with a slightly darker wall beside it.
‘What?!’
“Naomi! I think you got the wrong street, are you sure she was her-
While talking, she turned around, making it just in time to see a wave of ice coming toward her.
It was too late, she couldn’t dodge it anymore, so she tried to parry it putting her arms in front of her face.
The now calm and composed voice of the timid Naomi replied to the silly question:
“Haha… don’t worry, it’s the perfect place”
