Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 135
Chapter 135: Innermost area
“There is another monster you will have to be extremely careful about…
The giant glacial tortoises.
These monsters inhabit the border of the innermost part of the blizzard, and as their name suggests, they are huge.
During my expedition to figure out what end the previous attack team had made, I ventured inside the innermost part of the blizzard, everything was unusually quiet apart from the raging snowstorm that persisted as always.
No monsters could be seen in any direction, and as you may already know, whenever the number of monsters starts decreasing or increasing in a certain area, the is a high chance for you to be getting closer to the boss or an elite monster.
But what I saw there… it was on another level.
Yetis lack nutrition for their kind, which is the main reason behind the attacks of some of them even outside the blizzard area, but when knowing that they never ventured inside the innermost parts of the snowstorms, it’s normal to wonder what could possibly be inside there to frightened even such monsters.
Well, the only one who survived to speak about it was now in front of them, and the academy teachers needed all the information they could gather to raise their chances of success.
“I had entered the innermost part of the blizzard three hours earlier…
I had been walking since sunrise, but my mates were waiting for me just outside the innermost part, so I couldn’t give up at that point.
The cold in that place was unlike anything you could imagine, I’m pretty sure it must’ve surpassed -100 degrees Celsius ( -148 Fahrenheit).
Even I, an A-rank awakened, covered in isolated clothes and with various forms of heating equipment, felt the freezing breeze like cutting blades upon my body.
The snow was fresh, making the walk even more difficult than what it had been up till then.
With the snow being really deep, every time I took a step forward it was like climbing up a fifty-centimeter (about 20 inches) step on the stairs.
All I could see was snow, and the difficulty of Finding the right direction began increasing, together with the chance of me finding a way back.
My trails disappeared, washed away by the wind and the snow, while the path ahead of me became more and more confusing.
But enough of that, my colleague here will tell you everything you need to know about orientation, for now, let’s continue with the main topic….
I walked for almost four hours straight,
And then it happened.
I found the reason why none of those yetis could’ve ever dreamt of stepping foot in those lands, and it almost cost me my own life.
The snow beneath my feet began to tremble, making me slowly sink into the white.
It trembled with an absurd strength, and to me, It looked like the world would’ve finally crumbled altogether.
But I was wrong, it was not the world that began moving, it was me, or to be precise, the thing under my feet.
In just a few seconds, I was pressed against what I thought to be the ground beneath me.
But at that moment I realized what it was, and it was almost too late.
The snow began falling off the creature’s back, and I too, risked falling from there, as the snow formed an avalanche on that monster’s back, it almost brought me down with it.
With my sword, I pierced the ice and hung up on it with just one hand.
Then, when I thought it was all finally over and the only thing I had left to do was to climb back up or back down from the side of whatever I was hanging on, the ground once again started trembling, that time it was even worse, many times worse than the first one, so to observe what was happening, I turned back my head.
In the distance, in the vicinity, on the left, on the right, everywhere, they were… everywhere.
The hundred-meter-tall tortoises rose from the ground everywhere, it wasn’t just shocking, it felt like I was in a nightmare.

Seeing mountains of snow fall off their backs as they got on their legs, and hearing the terrifyingly loud sound that came from their ice mouths, I gave up.
At that very moment, I lost my will to live, it was something no human could face off against, not in this world and age at least.
If even a couple of those tortoises got out of the blizzard, our nation would be gone right now, and yet there were at least a hundred of them, probably even more, but I couldn’t see any further because of the snowstorm.
But as if I didn’t exist, they just started migrating, they walked for many minutes, before settling all down once again and falling back asleep.
I was shocked and scared, but I still had a mission I needed to finish, and I had to return alive to report my discovery.
So without wasting any time, with the tracker I had brought to locate the corpses of the previous raid team, I got to work and walked for two hours before finally reaching the location.
Where the locator was pointing there was nothing but a plain of snow, but I began digging before finally finding what I was searching for.
Their bones were completely shattered and flattened, if my guess is right, they must have mistaken the tortoises for aggressive monsters and attacked them, causing one of them to crash the whole raid team with either one leg or with its body.
Afterward, I managed to return and reunite with my mates to cross the Yetis’ territory once again.
Once I got back, I referred everything I found to the guild master and the others, and we began tracking the movements of those beasts through seismic movements, all to find their routine.
Fighting them is simply impossible, but since they are passive monsters that sleep most of the time, you should be able to pass by them without creating any trouble.
You just have to remember this:
They move two times a day for about thirty minutes, and they always do it at the same time.
First, four hours after sunrise,
This is when I met them, and also the quietest part of the day around those parts, even the storms are slightly less active, meaning your vision should be crystal clear compared to normal.
And secondly, they move around midnight,
This is the worst time to find yourselves between hundreds of giant legs that could crush you all without any problems, since the visibility is low, and the storms are rampant during the night.
If I had met those tortoises during the night, I probably would’ve faced the same end as the previous raiders.”
This whole story didn’t raise their morale, but it did at least bring them happiness to know they could’ve just skipped one of the difficulties.
Stepping up after the woman got down was a girl, she looked quite young, but her eyes were full of determination, and she sure didn’t look like she was there to play around.
” My name is Ane Egede since my companions have said most of what you need to know, I won’t bore you for long.
In the next two days, I will teach you everything I know about surviving I’m the wild frozen lands, but today I will just explain the basics of the territory division.
The image on the screen changed, and there were now three circles one in the middle of the other.
The first one was really big compared to the other two.
She pointed at it first…
Do you see this white part?
This is the territory of the yetis, it’s what we like to call “the blizzard area”
The difficulty in passing through this stage is crossing the vast snowfields that could turn into battlefields every moment thanks to the yetis sneak attacks.
Then… this blue circle is the one Nivi just talked about, we call it the “innermost blizzard”, here, the tortoises roam two times a day, they form a circumference all around the last circle, where the boss and the gates are presumed to be.
While in the first zone, the white one, drones and satellites can capture your every action, from the second zone and on they can’t, if you want to do something illicit do it after entering the second zone, because all the world will be watching your every movement.
And if you want to film what is beyond the first area bring a camera, satellites can’t pass through and drones can’t stand the winds, so everything you want people to know will be only registered by your own hands.
Well then, we are done here, how about we start with the real training?”
And just like that, for two days, the three experts taught everything they knew to the eighteen raid participants, and finally, forty-eight hours later, on the seventh of August, the expedition began…
