Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 141
Chapter 141: Cursed
Hans jumped from one little glacier to another, quickly passing by tens of them, before reaching a bigger one, on which he stopped a second in order to see if he could spot the shore in any direction.
He watched carefully forward, squinting his eyes, but the only thing he could see was the lake and the little islands,
“Blup”
Hans turned around as fast as he could to identify the source of the sound.
Where it came from, the surface of the water had just broken, and ripples had formed.
When the ripples disappeared, and Hans came to the conclusion that it had been just a piece of ice falling off a nearby glacier, the sound was heard once again.
“Blup”
Hans turned to his left this time, as fast as he could, but once again… nothing.
At that point, he could tell something was off, something was extremely off.
Maybe because of the chaos around him, or maybe because of all the different thoughts filling his mind, Hans hadn’t noticed something that would’ve caught his eye at any other moment:
The temperature in that place was way below zero, so how could the water not be frozen?
Usually, what happens when the temperature is below zero is the freezing of the water’s surface.
But this lake hadn’t been completely frozen, it had many little islands of ice and snow, and yet the water beside those was still liquid.
It was as if something, or someone… had broken it.
A loud whistle that disturbed Hans’s ears was emitted from something behind him.
Hans realized what was happening too late.
He couldn’t turn around anymore, leaving him with only one choice….
Dodge.
{repulsion}(tier-5)
As soon as he cast the wind element spell, his body was launched to the side, thanks to the blast of air used to repel himself.
He ended up against a little hill of ice, with a thin layer of snow on it, that didn’t really soften the hit all that much.
He quickly got up and looked back in order to confirm his hypothesis.
‘A glacial lake, broken glaciers, and an incredibly peculiar whistle sound…
It just had to be the most dangerous sea predator, didn’t it?
It’s a killer whale.
But… this one’s a little different I guess’
Hans’s attention was caught by the lower part of the monster’s body structure, while its counterpart in Hans’s world had fins, this one had arms, with four webbed claws, allowing it to walk on the slippery surface without any problems.
The tail, which in water was used to bring stability and help the animal move, on the ground was strangely familiar to that of a dragon.
The fin on its back and the shape of the head, together with its colors, were the only things that gave away its identity as a killer whale.

Evaluation: an S-rank beast, once feared by everyone who lived in these lands for its aggressive attitude.
Its speed is incredibly high while underwater, and the fighting style it uses is mostly centered on the continuous switch between land and water.
Emotional state: crazed.]
‘This sure is one kind of a beast’
Thought Hans, seeing the incredible stats, and also reading about its high-ranking skills.’
Before he could think up any way to smoothly defeat this beast or get out of the battle, the black and white monster charged up a rush, and unleashed it, running at full speed toward Hans.
Its sharp claws were raised in the air in order to slash Hans in half, but he managed to avoid it by sliding to the side.
The monster’s claws were stuck for a moment in the ice where Hans’s body had been smashed just a few seconds earlier, and the young man took the chance to analyze the beast’s body.
The Akhlut’s body wasn’t as big as that of Earth’s killer whales, it was not small, but it didn’t reach the average of eight meters from tail to head.
It was about six meters long, and its fin, being the highest part of its body, reached about a meter and seventy in height (5’7), standing slightly below Hans.
But what caught Hans’s interest was the shape of the body.
It was aerodynamic, without a single point that created much friction against the air even while having four legs.
It was a machine made for killing, just like the ones Hans already knew about.
But he didn’t have any more time to observe the beast, as its claws came out of the ice fairly quickly.
Without wasting any more time, the beast noticed Hans’s fast movements and decided to fight him in a place that would’ve put the human at a disadvantage.
The beast slid down the smooth ice back to the waters, disappearing as if it had never come out.
Almost without any splashes or ripples, Hans was asking himself how such a big and heavy beast managed to move so silently.
But he had no time to be amazed, he didn’t know where the monster had gone, and he couldn’t escape without risks.
Lifting himself with {telekinesis} wouldn’t have worked because of the push of the strong winds-
Once again, in his reasoning, Hans had found Another strange thing.
The water surface wasn’t moving even while the strong winds blew right above it.
The glaciers also weren’t moving, as if the water was heavy enough to keep itself and the little ice platforms in place even with the ongoing blizzard.
Hans was tempted to touch it, but doing it with a killer beast in it waiting just for him wasn’t really a great idea.
He did however still analyze it with his mystic insight, and what popped up explained everything:
[cursed water(epic)
A water stained by an incredible amount of hatred and blood.
It is the opposite of holy water.
To create a lake as large as this, hundreds of years must’ve passed since the negative emotions and the blood began to flow inside it.
Effect: even if it looks like normal water, its density is many times higher than fresh cement, making it impossible to navigate through or swim in it.
‘Hatred and blood huh? It can’t be something good right?’
Thought Hans.
His quiet was interrupted by the water in the distance, which began to rise, slowly forming a wave.
Hans could see that the beast was swimming just under the wave that was forming.
“It must be the {wave} skill.
When I first read about it it looked like the least troubling to deal with, but thinking back at it, coupled with this place’s properties, I think it might be the worst.
He prepared to jump away from the ice island and return to the shore as fast as he could, but a loud whistle that busted his eardrums stopped him from moving.
His vision became blurry, and he could not keep his body straight.
‘The world is… moving?
Ugh! Damn, the {shcokwave}’s effects are worse than I thought’
Having lost about three seconds to regain his stability on the ice, Hans had no room left to return to shore, he had to figure out a way to deal with the incoming attack while in the middle of that cursed lake.
A mana barrier would’ve left him at the mercy of nature since the wave would’ve probably broken the glacier he was standing on and made him fall down inside the cursed lake.
The only choice he had left was to try and freeze the incoming wave.
He gathered mana inside his fist and cast the spell, but before he could unleash it…
The monster felt the movement of the mana through its echolocation and emerged from the waters to whistle once again, making Hans fall to the ground.
He was now on the ground, barely seeing what was in front of him, and robbed of the ability to gather mana.
In a few words, he was defenseless.
When he regained control of his body and opened his eyes, everything he saw was dark.
He had fallen Into the lake, he could feel it.
The disgustingly heavy water was pressing down on him, holding him in place, while he could feel the movement of something around him.
Just beside his body, appeared the teeth of the killer whale, whose mouth was wide open, ready to devour him.
He couldn’t see it but he knew that something was coming, he could feel it.
In a last chance to get out of that place, he used what he had saved as his ultimate spell.
‘This should’ve been blown into the boss’ face, but if I must already use it now then I will just cast it twice.
Because if this lake does not want to freeze…
Then I will just burn it.’
