Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 149
Chapter 149: The Passage Of Time
Time resumed once again, and the mana held in Caelans’s hands was released forward.
Acting as the medium, the liquid on the mountain peak gathered under the boy’s feet, climbing up his body, and carving out his flesh in an excruciating manner.
The boy screamed with all the air in his lungs,
and when the process was done, the liquid was formed into a mantle, that would cover his shame for all his life.
The intruders stepped foot up on the mountain peak.
But little did they know…
Waiting for them was a monster even stronger than what they could’ve ever imagined.
The remaining two of the ‘limbs’ reached the peak of the mountain.
One of them was a furred beast with a giant body and the other was a four-legged creature with a single smooth sphere as its body.
Just behind them was a human.
The man was a rough-looking individual, who wore a thick beast’s hide to keep his body safe from the cold.
“There he is… that should be the person you are searching for.
I remember him slightly differently, but I guess tough times change people.
Haha…
To think Humanity’s greatest mage would meddle with dark magic just to survive…
It’s hilarious isn’t-
While he was still speaking, a block of ice formed around his body.
The frozen cube then shattered, leaving behind no traces of the man’s body.
“Cowardly humans like you who sell their souls to the devil just to save themselves should not be allowed to walk on this continent.
You are a shame to all the soldiers who’ve died for their people.”
Telling those words, he hadn’t realized that his actions were even worse, and he had not only given up his humanity, but also let the dreams of many perish just to preserve what was left of his sister.
It was an egoistic choice the one he made, but he had no reason to choose otherwise.
Even after getting out of the mountain peak and wandering around the last remaining territories free from Her servants, Hans still hadn’t found anyone he could even compare to his sister.
Her appearance, her character, the way she did things, it was as if she was above everyone else.
The other humans, however, weren’t so innocent and pure.
Even while a catastrophe was imminent, the people were blinded by greed and still committed every kind of bad deed.
Slavery hadn’t ceased, and murders were more frequent than ever…
Choosing between such humans and what remained of his pure sister seemed like a granted choice,
But had he protected the village instead of the temple, maybe history would’ve been written in another way…
While the skeleton still hadn’t moved half an inch from his position on the throne, the monster with a round body began casting a spell.

The spell chant was strange, instead of being in a circle like usual, it revolved around the monster’s body in a spherical shape.
And then…
“Swoosh”
A blade of sharp wind was shot toward the hooded mage, who managed to repel it to the side by using his ice magic to shield himself.
The demonstration of the spell’s power happened afterward,
when the spell cut through one of the temple’s columns, which had been strengthened with an incredible amount of mana over the previous hundreds of years.
“What tier was that spell?”
Asked Hans to Caelan out of pure curiosity.
“My memories have faded a bit after so long, but I remember it cutting through the columns, so it must be around the ninth rank.”
“Ha… haha… he shot a rank nine spell as if it was a normal attack.
Is it normal for everyone to do it in your world?”
“Don’t worry, of course, it isn’t, this was probably the toughest opponent I have ever faced, and one of the only ones I didn’t manage to kill”
“You mean… they fled”
“Yes…”
The memories were sped up, making it look like time was passing many times faster than usual.
“Here, when these bastards had already lost to me… they still managed to find a way to flee”
As shown in front of him, the skeleton of Caelan was still standing, right in front of the throne.
While all the assaultants were either lying on the ground or dead.
Even the two most fearsome fighters of the ‘limbs’ were at their last breath.
“Do you acknowledge your sins?”
“How dare you all! Slaves and dogs, bark into these sacred grounds.
You will have to pay the price!”
A giant dome of ice enclosed the peak of the mountain, keeping the remaining monsters inside without letting them any chances to escape from the following attack.
{ice prison}(tier-10)
And then, to finish off what he had begun, Caelan cast one last spell, with the intention of killing all the remaining opponents.
{spikes blizzard}(tier-10)
Countless ice spikes emerged from the ice dome from all around them, and those spikes soon flew straight toward the objectives.
The round monster began to cast once again, and Caelan, thinking it was casting a defensive spell, decided to prioritize attacking the others, so that he could later deal with the magic beast swiftly without any interference.
But seeing as the beast was still casting and a shield had yet to form, Caelan realized that the spell it was casting wasn’t a defensive one.
Afraid of what might’ve happened once the spell had been cast, he redirected all the attacks to that beast.
Thousands of ice shards, small and big, all between the range of a sixth and an eight-rank magic, were quickly closing onto the beast.
But a moment was all it took for those spells to become useless, as the casting finished, and the beast disappeared from its place.
“What?!”
Exclaimed Hans watching the fight.
“Is that…”
“Yes, I don’t know about your world, but one of the things humans have always wanted to do in mine is to travel from one place to the other instantly.
I thought it would just remain a dream no one could realize, since I wouldn’t even know where to start if I wanted to create such magic, but it does exist…
Space magic.
Though that did not seem to belong to him, it was something similar to a spell that recalled him somewhere, I remember feeling someone’s mana reaching even inside my {ice prison}.”
“Do you think it’s her’s ?”
“I don’t know, but what I know is that it is incredibly troublesome, this Is not the only time I’ve suffered because of space magic…
Since everything you wanted to know from this scene has already been shown, let me tell you the rest:
…
After the monster escaped, I massacred every single one of the remaining beasts.
Covering once again the mountain in blood, disgusting fluids, and carcasses.
Since undead live off mana, I needed a large amount of it to defend the temple for as long as I possibly could.
I remained seated on the throne for countless years….
Hundreds of years had passed, and I had a lot of time to think through my actions.
I realized how foolish I had been, giving up the last remaining people of my race and my faith in the goddess just to protect the resting place of my sister’s statue.
I wanted to exhaust my powers and end myself, but the goddess’ words came to my mind:
‘Do not forget your choice even after you die’
…
If I hadn’t at least followed her last words, how weak of a man would I have been?
The temple on the peak of the mountain was a place with incredibly dense ice mana, and because of that, my skeleton body managed to live a long time.
I have forgotten how much time it has been, but at least five hundred years passed since then.
Then, on a day like the others, when I thought my life would be on repeat for the rest of eternity, something changed…
I felt a curse upon my body, I did not know what it was, but that power was strangely familiar to the one that rescued the magic beast in my last battle.’
I thought that they were finally about to come back for a second round, but they didn’t.
Thirty days later, my body’s mana began being sucked away by something.
I used a spell to investigate what it was, and I found it…
The portal you came from.
It was sucking my mana, and I was constantly absorbing mana from the mountain peak.
It was like a bottomless hole.
It kept absorbing my mana, and indirectly absorbing all the mana around the mountain.
After more than a year or so, the mana around the mountain was depleted, and the only thing that remained was my own mana, which should have supplemented my lifespan for at least a thousand years more.
It began eating away from my lifespan at a concerning pace, but I could not do anything, I feared that they would return as soon as I distanced myself from the mountain to figure out what was happening.
But time passed, and my body became weaker and weaker until not even my sight remained.
That is when…
I felt your mana coming out of the portal.
