Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 168
Chapter 178: Macaque
In front of Hans stood a monster that could definitely not be called sneaky.
Its huge body and its loud roar were impossible to miss.
‘How did I not sense this guy for more than a whole hour in here?
I can feel it from here, his presence reacts to my mana like every living being, so how come I couldn’t spot its location?’
Hans analyzed the monster, curious to know the reason why he missed out on its location.

‘Was I not able to find it because it was sleeping?
I’ll have to improve my tracking capacities if I wasn’t to avoid spending so much time in every gate I raid’
While Hans was annoyed by the fact that he had spent so much time searching for a macaque, the beast was angry because someone had interrupted its nap time.
“Hua hua hua..”
A devastating screeching sound came out of the monkey’s mouth as it searched for the intruder in its territory.
{note: the colossal macaque has entered a state of madness.
Its stats will be raised by thirty percent for the duration of the rage.}
‘Are you for real? He entered a state of madness just because I woke him up?’
Hans instinctively hid on a branch of one of the tall trees, as he waited for the perfect opportunity to attack.
‘Now! I can’t wait here forever, and I can’t guarantee I’ll find a better chance’
Before attacking, Hans limited himself by ‘setting’ his stats to two hundred.
He then jumped down from the tree holding his sword with both hands in front of his body.
As the air whistled for his fall, he landed on the back of the giant monkey, and his blade sunk deep into the beast’s flesh and blood.
However, it was not time to celebrate yet as the beast turned around and violently shook off Hans from its back.
The young man was sent flying, but fortunately, he still managed to hold on to his sword and extract it before being slung away.
‘It’s not as easy to take down as the others,
I guess it’s the boss for a reason.’
Even if it wasn’t written in the description he obtained when analyzing the beast, the madness state seemed to also affect its reaction to pain, otherwise it wouldn’t have stood idly without flinching even after receiving such a hit.
The beast, even more enraged than before, charged towards Hans.
‘Fast!’
Even if he knew it beforehand, he still couldn’t imagine such a big creature moving so fast, up till that moment that is.
The monkey measured up to at least a dozen meters In height(~40 feet), but its speed didn’t seem to be affected by it, probably because of the race skill {agile}.
It bolted into the air, surpassing even the tops of the highest trees.
As the beast descended upon him, Hans made up his mind to avoid it, concluding that defending such an attack with limited stats would’ve been impossible.
The beast’s landing caused the ground to shatter, and the surface Hans was standing on to become unsteady.
Trying to regain a position that would give him an advantage, Hans tried once again to hide on the beaches of the giant trees, but before he could reach them, a hand measuring about the same as his body emerged from the dust, slamming him back to the ground.
The beast growled as it emerged from the debris cloud.
It had its eyes fixed on the human, who was trying his best to get up once again.
For the second time, Hans saw the two huge arms falling upon him, and avoided, jumping backward.
‘I can’t continue like this, this beast’s leading the fight, and because of its absurdly high dexterity, I can’t find any chance to counterattack between the hits, I need to fight back, that way it won’t have time to use that {slam} move.’
With a plan in mind, Hans rushed towards the monkey, using its hands that were still on the ground as a launching pad to jump and reach the beast’s body.
Unable to use both hands while the opponent was right in front of it, the beast prepared to unleash an unexpected attack.
It retracted its head before swinging it forward and head-butting Hans with incredible force.
He, who didn’t expect the beast to attack like that, couldn’t do anything but hold his arms high and take the hit.
Once his body touched the ground, the beast began charging another attack.
‘Fuck!’
Thought Hans.
In such a difficult situation, Hans removed the limits on his stats and dashed away from the monster until he was far enough to lower his guard.
‘I really… don’t know anything about fighting.
Sure I can try to predict the movement other people might make, but for someone like me, who is used to shooting enemies to death from afar, a headbutt was the last thing I would’ve expected.
I’ll try again… and this time… I will make sure to kill it’
Hans released his aura and restricted his stats before attacking the beast again.
The fight went on for various hours, and Hans was forced to retreat many times.
The everlasting fight was put to an end as Hans’s sword pierced the macaque’s giant heart.
Maybe because of the piled-up exhaustion and scars, or maybe because Hans had improved over those clashes, but he had managed to win.
‘I underestimated the value of a good sword’
Hans thought while he was panting heavily, standing on his knees on the carcass of the dead boss.
‘The last time I used a sword seriously was in that dreadful gate…’
Hans reminisced.
‘It pierced right through that golem’s core, but not because of my ability.
That sword the old man gave me… it was incredible.
Not only the sharpness and the balance but also the incredible ability to double the effect of my aura…
thinking back on it, anyone with my stats would’ve been able to do it, I might be considered a genius in the magic world, but as a swordsman, I still have a long way to go.’
While he was reflecting upon the fight he had just won, his gaze was caught by the window that appeared beside him.
[you have killed the gate boss: Colossal Macaque.
The gate will close in thirty minutes]
‘Nothing else huh…
It seems like this monster’s level is too low to provide enough experience for a level-up.
And the same probably goes for this gate.’
As he suspected, even once the gate closed, no skills were given to him as a reward.
To avoid causing any trouble because of his identity, Hans brought out the boss’s body and left it beside the transport team’s truck before leaving without being spotted.
The sun was shining brightly in the sky, and being already past twelve, Hans deemed it a nice time for a good lunch.
Before having lunch, however, he visited the training hall to return the sword to Master Henry.
While Hans was entering the training hall, he observed many people exercising.
Not only the seven students of Master Henry but also many other awakened were training with their weapons there.
In one corner of the mattress, a little crowd was gathered, watching a spar.
One of the two people up there was familiar to Hans:
It was the guy he had fought against just a few hours earlier.
Like an unstoppable predator’s fangs, his two daggers swung without any pause.
The person he was fighting was a man with defined muscle, both taller and older than him, but even that man’s spear could not hold a candle against the boy’s fierce daggerplay.
Just a few seconds later, the man’s butt touched the ground and he fell on his back, unable to withstand all the attacks.
“That was a good fight”
Said the young man.
“Wow! I knew you could do it”
“Thank you, boy, you just earned me tomorrow’s breakfast”
“Don’t get carried away, I won’t place my bet wrongly next time”
…
“What’s so special about winning against someone who just became C-rank?”
Blurted out the girl who seemed to always be at odds with the guy
“Huh? What did you say?!”
Replied the boy who had just won the spar.
On the faces of all the people who heard them talking was painted the expression:
‘Here they go again’
Hans approached them holding the sword in his hands.
“Hey!
Is Master Henry still here? I need to give this back to him”
Hans said, hinting at the sword in his grip.
“Uh? Gideon, you know this guy?”
Asked one of the bystanders.
And taking this opportunity to irritate her friend, the girl replied:
“He doesn’t only know him, he got beaten by him”
