Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 198
Chapter 198: Teamwork
“The more he thinks he can see, the more it will be effective when we fool him”
“Explain what you mean please”
Logan asked of him.
“You see, after he is surrounded by ice and fog, he will perceive the ice wall formed just beside him, and he will think we will use that as a cover for our attack, but what we need to do is a sneak attack that will reach him as soon as his shield collapses.
And to do that… Logan, you will have to play the most important role.”
Colton explained the strategy they would be using, and thirty minutes later, everything was proceeding just as planned.
All the students had taken place on the dirt wall, while Hans was standing a few feet below them surrounded by ice.
“Now! Start the main attack”
As Colton yelled those words, all the other students prepared to cast their magic.
They were mainly divided into three groups.
The first one was made up of ten people, six of them were water mages, and the other four were ice mages, Colton belonged to this group.
They raised a sphere of water up in the air and then transformed it into an enormous ice spike, ready to befall their teacher.
“Not bad”
Hans commented while observing the mana flow beyond the illusion mist.
“…but that won’t be enough, even if I’ve cast only a barrier shaped like a sphere and not a lot of barriers all around me as I would do in a usual battle, this won’t be enough to break a seventh-tier spell”
A few seconds later, the second group was done casting, and a little fire typhoon had formed from the combined efforts of eleven of the remaining students.
Both the spells seemed to be as powerful as top fourth-tier spells, and the teamwork displayed by his students shocked even Hans.
Lastly, three students gathered together to cast buffs on David, the magic warrior who also specialized in martial arts.
A couple of students: Lila Harper and Kai Coleman did not take part in the general attack but instead contributed alone since one was focused on maintaining the fog spell while the other could only use light spells, that didn’t blend well with other elements.
There was no need for an order, as soon as they saw all three teams were ready, they released their spells toward Hans.
Hitting first was the typhoon, which damaged the whole barrier, but didn’t have nearly enough power to take it down, and then followed the giant ice spike, which shattered at the impact with the shield, but managed to leave a crack in the already damaged barrier.
This was supported by a third-tier {light cannon} cast by Kai individually.
Finally, breaking through the ice wall just beside Hans in order to catch him by surprise, David Miller used his martial arts and magic in unison.
His buffed body, supported by all his other classmates’ buffs and his unique ability, allowed him to unleash a power that almost came close to that of a B-rank hunter, even without having reached a level in which he could use aura.
Hans widened his eyes in surprise and shock as his seventh-tier spell shattered in front of his face.
His lips curved as he watched David just a few centimeters from him:
‘Astonishing’
Hans thought.
‘To think a bunch of low-ranking mages could break one of my barriers
But…

You have used up all your momentum in order to breach through my defense… How will you reach my body?…”
“… That’s probably what he’s thinking isn’t it?”
Colton thought.
At that moment, the ice cracked, and a student appeared from the ground below Hans.
He held a spike of dirt in his hand, sharp enough to be considered a blade, and with his speed, it wouldn’t be long before that blade reached Hans’s body.
Colton watched Logan rise from the ground just beside Hans with a smirk on his face.
‘The plan this time was perfect, flawless if I must say…
Teach… it seems like… you’ll have to tell us that secret’
However, the convinced smirk on all the students’ faces was wiped off an instant later as the blade passed through Hans.
Logan, the boy who was holding the dirt spike, couldn’t understand what was going on.
“Did you really think… something like that wouldn’t have been predictable”
{ghostification}
All the students fell on their knees or on their butts from exhaustion, while Hans chuckled in the middle of the training grounds, still unscathed and unbothered.
“That was a good plan”
He said smiling.
“But you completely saw through our intention didn’t you?”
“Haha, I guess I did.
Well then… anyone wants to continue?”
No one replied, and the test came to an end with the loss of the students.
“Teach”
Logan called.
“Mh? What is it?”
Hans turned around replying to him.
“I wanted to know… how did you find out about me? Both Austin and Sam were helping me hide my presence, and we were moving below the ground.”
‘Samuel Harlow and Austin Daniels, two students with peculiar abilities…
While Austin has been practicing the path of sound magic, which allowed him to cover up the sound of Logan’s terraforming, Samuel Harlow is even more peculiar, he is a mage with the attribute of darkness, even if he couldn’t cast {stealth} on other people, he still managed to veil their mana with a layer of black magic.
Those two coupled together made up a half-assed stealth, so it makes sense that he would ask me that.’
“You used the trick of covering what’s less important isn’t that right?
You made it seem like the ice was there to trap me, and the mist was there to blind me, making me focus my attention solely on what was happening above, but the truth was that the ice was there to shield the guys moving below me.
To tell you the truth, maybe a normal mage around the fifth, or maybe the sixth rank could’ve fallen for your trap, but someone experienced in battle would never, even if he didn’t have the ability to sense mana like a high-ranking mage does.
The reason for that is simple, think about it, what is the first thing you do when a battle is about to begin?”
The students remained puzzled by the question, all of them apart from one:
Logan replied in just a few seconds, quite sure of his answer:
“You… count the opponents”
“That’s right”
Did you really think I wouldn’t notice that three of you were gone?
As soon as I saw that the numbers were wrong I started searching for you, and finding you when you were just a couple of meters away from me was anything but difficult.
Austin and Samuel, you should’ve remained with the others while casting your spells, and Logan, you could’ve left something like a doll made up of mana and dirt up with the others before going underground.
I mean… I would’ve found you anyway but at least you could’ve fooled most of the people in my situation.”
“I see”
Logan immediately understood the lesson.
Up till then, he had always tried to calculate what people would think, not their habits.
‘Maybe fighting a bit more in the gates during summer could’ve helped me better understand awakened fighters’
“Still… that strategy was really good, who came up with it? Was it Colton?”
“Yes”
The other announced quite ashamed, since in the end, it brought them to failure.
“How did you know I wouldn’t move?”
“Well…
They chatted a bit about the fight they just concluded before returning to the classroom, less than an hour was left before the end of the lesson with the first class, and Hans would have to deal with the second-class brats afterward.
Hans continued to answer questions made by his students until the end of the lesson when he dismissed everyone apart from four people:
Logan Archer, Claire Carter, Colton Hayes, and Marisol Hinton.
“Starting with you…
Logan, how much have you practiced mana influx?”
Assisting him in mana influx was a reward Hans had granted Logan after he had won the duels at the start of the school year, but since he was quite capable, once he knew the method, it didn’t take long for him to be able to do it by himself.
“I can completely immerse myself in the state of mana influx about twice a month, and my mana detection and perception has improved by leaps and bounds.
I can already start to feel mana if I concentrate a lot during battle.”
“Good work, you can go now”
Logan walked out of the room, leaving the other three standing behind him.
“Then… Claire…
Why the hell… are you still stuck at the peak of the second tier?”
“This….”
The girl began tearing up as she cursed:
“It’s That idiot of my dad, he keeps getting in the way whenever I try to go inside a gate and disturbs me whenever I practice, I can’t break through at home, I’ll do it here as soon as I can”
“Oh… alright, alright”
Hans remembered Benjamin Carter, the leader of the Vortex guild, as a solemn person, and simply couldn’t imagine him acting like a fool for his daughter.
