Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 243
Chapter 243: Association’s attention
When the two of them reached the counter, the stairs and the room behind them had already completely collapsed.
None of the two panted, but Hans let out a sigh of relief as he turned back to see what they had just escaped from.
Emma’s eyes were still wide open, she was staring into the void, not interested in recognizing what was in front of her.
She was sinking into deep thought when Hans touched her shoulder and recalled her back to reality.
“Emma, snap out of it, what’s gotten to you?”
Hans asked as he shook her shoulder.
A few seconds of silence accompanied the question before he received an answer.
“What’s gotten to me?!…
Do you know how much money and time I spent on building that place?! You just blew it up by saying half a word that I couldn’t even understand!”
Hans’s eardrum busted as he heard the girl screaming from just a few centimeters away.
“I-I didn’t do it on purpose”
Hans tried to justify himself but ended up enraging Emma even more.
“Of course you didn’t! Why the hell would you do it on purpose? But you still did it, and now that’s gone, do you have the minimum idea of what those two materials are worth? Or where to find them? I worked my ass off for an entire year to find a material that could hold on like those, and you blew it up!….
I….. Aaaarghhh!!”
Emma grabbed her hair in a sudden burst of anger, and Hans watched her with a dumb smile on his face.
“I’m sorry”
He said in a last attempt to calm her down.
A few seconds passed, and Emma began inhaling and exhaling slowly to calm herself down.
When she finally felt like she could hold herself from slapping him in the face, she talked to Hans.
“Hans, I do not know what you were trying to talk about, nor will I ever inquire about it again, but whatever it is, you must not talk about it with anyone.
You see Hans, the world can feel the weight of what we say, that is why when we are making small talk the meter barely went down, but when I revealed more important things it went down quickly.
If just half of the first word you said was enough to shatter the entire place into a million pieces… it is clear that the secret you hold is weighed heavily by the world, or the other way we can call it…”
Hans finished the phrase in his head:
‘Fate’
He understood now…
there were some sorts of taboos created by fate that kept knowledge like this from spreading, and the more important these revelations were, the greater the punishment, exactly how it was for the gods…
‘It seems like… everything related to my class would be a taboo… I’m lucky I’ve never told anyone about it, otherwise, I don’t know if I could’ve stopped in time or if my life would’ve ended right there.’
He was quite frightened by what he just realized, to think that revealing something like that could potentially take his life without him even noticing…
“So? What now?”
He asked.

The woman suddenly felt once again a pungent urge to slap Hans in the face, but she managed to hold it.
“I brought you here to hide you, not only from the eyes of the association but also from one of the groups here in Italy.”
“The association was spying on me… why?”
“Dunno, they probably think that if they can’t control you they can at least check everything you do and ensure that you won’t do anything wrong, like against civilians, or association members.
Also, it might be correlated with the group I’m shielding you from”
“Which would be…?”
I’m pretty sure you’re aware of the seven emperors of the Crimson tyranny”
“The seven emperors huh?…”
Kenta flashed for a moment into Hans’ brain as he said those words.
“Is one of them here in Italy?”
“Correct, if we want to be precise, it’s not only her, her whole gang’s stationed here too”
“Did she take over the mafia or something?”
Hans said as he chuckled, but he soon realized the truth by seeing the expression on Emma’s face…
“Are you for real?”
“Mh”
Replied Emma nodding.
“Ha… haha…”
After his fake laugh, Hans began thinking about it.
Mafia, gangs… he wasn’t really familiar with those words, the only person related to that world he knew was Kenta, but he… well, he knew relatively little, but having passed his childhood in Italy, he had heard some things.
‘The so-called ‘mafia’ is said to have more influence in the southern parts of Italy, they are more brazen there, and act freely, as the territories are slightly underdeveloped compared to the northern part of the country.
But that does not mean their influence does not extend to the north, they just take a different approach, like an assassin, they hide in the shadows, in every corner of the country… be it the law or the authorities.
If the country is just like it was when we left… then it might be correct to assume that they’ve already found me.’
“But why would they search for me?”
Emma watched the boy raising an eyebrow before replying:
“Well, their relationship with you is already bad since you killed number two of the ice lord, and ruined his plans in the Japanese academy.”
Hans tried hard to recall those moments…
‘The ice lord… so he was the one behind that crazy teacher… Sato, wasn’t it?
Also, number two, I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere’
“You can’t even remember the people you’ve killed?”
That phrase had Hans locked in, and he began thinking, he finally reached a conclusion about twenty seconds later…
“The one who attacked the academy that time…”
“That’s right”
Hans had a confused expression on his face…
“Is the relationship between the lord so good that they would risk the lives of their men to take me down?”
Emma smiled at the question:
“No, they really fucking hate each other”
“Then why?”
Hans asked, he was now even more confused.
“You’ll find out, just follow me for now”
‘Ugh… does she always do that?’
Hans commented inwardly as an annoyed expression appeared on his face… he didn’t like when things were kept from him.
Emma approached the door and slid the metal bar out of the way, releasing the handle, she then opened the door slightly, peeking outside and trying to see if anyone would’ve spotted her as she left, after finding an opening, she turned around and said:
“Just like when we entered, make sure no one sees you, and get out of here, then follow me, I’ll take you somewhere interesting”
“Alright”
Hans nodded, but out of habit, he turned around to glance one last time at the place to see if he had forgotten anything, and he saw that his bag was still lying beside the bed.
“Wait!”
He said.
“What about my-”
He turned around once more and Emma was gone…
“She likes doing that, doesn’t she?!”
He said as he sighed.
‘Whatever, I’ll follow her now and think about the bag later’
Hand infused his mana into the ground and searched for Emma, after finding her, he equipped himself with stealth and walked out of the little apartment, making sure to open the door as little as possible to avoid being noticed.
He reached the girl as he avoided the passing people who roamed the streets of the night market.
It was pure chaos, if last night it was already loud and bustling with life, then this time it could be pictured as chaotic at the point of being almost irritating and confining.
There was almost no space on the streets because of how many people were walking, and a normal person would have a hard time passing by unnoticed without bumping into anyone.
Once he reached the girl, she led him in those chaotic streets.
She knew the place as if it were the back of her hand, and she didn’t have any difficulty in getting where she wanted to go…
She entered an alley, which was unusually empty and dark compared to the rest of the place, and lifted up a little wooden trapdoor that was closed on the ground.
“Close it after you get in”
She said.
Hans didn’t reply, he just followed right behind her and closed the trapdoor.
They were now in a little underground tunnel, it was dark and humid, but Emma seemed to know where to go, Hans, curious about where she was leading him, decided to follow her once again.
The rocks around then seemed to be really old, but the place felt really stable, so Hans didn’t fear a possible collapse.
A few minutes later, they finally got out of those tight tunnels and got a breath of fresh air.
After coming out of the wooden trapdoor, Hans closed it before turning towards Emma, and seeing her smile satisfied.
“So? Where are we headed?”
Hans repeated his question once again.
“There”
Emma pointed to a white building across the street.
“And… what’s there?”
Hans asked irritated.
“The Italian defense team headquarters”
The girl replied nonchalantly.
