Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 248
Chapter 248: What They Deserve
“How come? I thought there would’ve been more of them”
Hans said as countless explosions went on all around him.
“There were more of them, but I’m pretty sure no one below B-rank would be able to take on a tier-6 spell from you”
“What a bummer, we should stop playing around with small organizations, let’s go and kill the crimson lady already”
‘It seems like… killing people of the crimson tyranny doesn’t mean I’ll get experience.
My level only raised when I killed the guy who swallowed that pill…’
Hans and Emma weren’t taking the situation seriously at all, they were talking to each other as they massacred the people surrounding them.
They came to know of something called an ‘admission test’ to enter the Shadowed Moon, so they knew that none of the people surrounding them were innocent.
The explosions that evening continued for almost five minutes, and the civilians who had been evacuated couldn’t help but wonder if it was really the effect of a gate break.
‘It’s so strange… I don’t feel any pity…’
Hans thought as he watched his hand.
‘Is it because I know they deserved it?… maybe because I didn’t see their faces…
Or maybe because I’ve become accustomed to it…
Whatever it is, I hope it won’t change much when I reunite with my family’
At that moment, Hans felt something approaching at an alarmingly high speed, instead of dodging, he simply created a mana barrier all around him to stop the attack, however, the killing intent he had previously perceived vanished, and Hans felt a gust of wind bussing just beside him.
Panicked he turned his head.
‘Emma?!’
He thought, not even having the time
To call out her name.
But that moment, an ethereal voice reached Hans’s ears, only one word, that was enough.,.
“Stop”
It wasn’t an order, nor a request, it was as if whatever she said came true by itself…
Soon, in the air a couple of meters from Hans, and just a few centimeters from Emma’s head, a knife materialized out of nowhere, it was a simple steel knife, but It looked unusually sharp and sturdy.
Even with a weapon pointed at her head, Emma seemed unfazed.
A few seconds passed, and just behind the dagger, holding it with his right hand, a figure covered in white clothing appeared.
Between the dresses, the only thing visible were the panicked eyes of that suspicious person, and they looked like a man’s.
It was strange, he was dressed in the usual assassin’s attire but the color, instead of being black was white…
Black absorbs light, while white reflects it, meaning that for tedious tasks like assassination or kidnapping, being dressed in black could help you blend into the night or not catch that much attention, while someone dressed in white, be it day or night, would be many times easier to spot.
‘Is this guy an idiot?’
Was the first thought the two of them had.

The man was still hanging in the air,
His body wasn’t moving in the least, and his breathing seemed nonexistent
Hans walked up to him and ripped off the veil and hood that covered his face.
He was kind of surprised to see the face of a fairly young man, maybe even younger than him.
Emma was still in the same spot…
‘Is she unable to move when she uses this skill?
Yes, that must be it, in that case…’
Hans walked up to Emma, who was frozen, unable to move, he got up behind her, and she couldn’t see him anymore.
A few seconds passed before Emma felt someone teaching the back of her neck.
‘W-what is he doing?!’
She was now stuck in a dilemma, if she moved, the person she had trapped would be free, but if she didn’t, she was at Hans’s mercy.
She decided to trust him.
She kept the man trapped at the expense of standing still.
She felt Hans’s right hand go up to her shoulder and then reach out until it touched the middle of her chest.
‘T-this isn’t it… I-I’m releasing the spell… three… two… on-‘
She didn’t feel anything, Hans’s hands had disappeared, and him being behind her, she couldn’t figure out what he was about to do.
Her facial expressions were stuck, just like her body, so she couldn’t show it, but in that moment she felt nervous…
‘What is he doing? He must’ve figured this spell out right? Is he taking advantage of me like this?’
Her fantasies shattered just a couple of seconds later as she saw Hans appear beside her, he held something in his hands it was…
‘My necklace?!’
‘Argh!!! You thief! You have no idea what’s inside there!’
This time, she was really on the verge of releasing the spell, she might’ve hurt her face, but with her dexterity being as high as it was it would’ve been possible to evade a fatal wound.
‘I can’t afford to lose that necklace!
Hans!!! You’re a shameless man!’
But as she prepared to evade the incoming attack, Emma watched as Hans took something out of her necklace.
It was a…
‘It’s the rope!! Of course! He didn’t have anything to tie this guy down so he borrowed my rope! I absolutely never doubted you, Hans!!’
The young man tied up the hands and the feet of the boy who was still hanging in the air, and then Emma released the spell she was keeping him trapped with.
As soon as the spell came undone, the boy flew towards Emma and she evaded him, without his dagger which had been taken by Hans, and with his hands tied behind his back, he posed no threat to the young woman.
As soon as she was freed from her spell, she walked towards Hans, who for some unknown reason felt an enormous threat approaching.
As she reached the young man, she violently snatched the necklace from his hands and walked away to put it on.
“Mph!”
She blurted out.
Her face looked annoyed and enraged but Hans just couldn’t figure out why…
‘Is something wrong?… maybe this is a side effect of the spell she used?’
Unsure about it, he decided to focus on the terrified boy who was now lying on the concrete.
‘Wahh… look at that, he’s only seventeen.
And he’s the leader?’
The boy, even if incredibly young, was already on the verge of breaking through the SS-rank.
“Hey, how old were you when you founded the Shadowed Moon?”
With his cheek against the ground, the boy did his best to talk:
“Why the hell would I tell you that!? Go and fuck yourself!”
“Woah woah… careful with your words, you wouldn’t want me calling your mom”
“Try it dickhead, she’s dead anyway”
“Woah… is that why you go around killing innocent people to make some money?”
“Ha! The fuck would someone like you know about it?! Money is unimportant only to those who have enough! I really hope you’ll find yourself without enough money to eat or to save the people you love from dying, let’s see what you’ll do then!”
Laughing like an idiot, the guy said as he talked to Hans:
“You would turn out exactly like me shithead!”
“Mh… Now, would I?”
Hans smacked the guy’s head into the ground, smashing part of the concrete and causing him to faint.
“Maybe… If I hadn’t awakened … maybe I would have turned out like this…
Nah, who am I kidding? Never in hell would I have been able to do this kind of thing… I’m a righteous man…”
As he said those words, Hans smiled, knowing damn well he was just bullshitting.
“Are you done having fun? ”
Emma came back that moment, she seemed to have calmed down.
“Yep”
Hans answered.
“By the way, what was that spell earlier?”
“Oh, that? I simply slowed him down”
“Slowed?… huh”
‘She must’ve used her time manipulation to lock the both of them into a different time flow, or something along those lines’
“I received news of your grandfather”
Hans immediately brought his gaze back to the woman as he heard that.
“What is it?”
“He’s headed for the base of the lady of crimson, he probably thinks he can stop her from searching for you that way”
Hans bit the side of his mouth to relieve some stress before saying:
“We’re going to him right?”
A smile accompanied the woman’s reply:
“Of course”
Emma walked away, but she was stopped by another question:
“What should I do with him?”
Emma watched the boy lying against the concrete, she then took out her sword from the necklace she had put on and threw it to Hans.
The boy caught the handle of the sword and understood what she meant.
“It’s such a waste, I even had to go through so much trouble to restrain him instead of killing him… what a pity, he’s as useless as a street pebble now.”
Emma commented as she left.
Soon enough, a red line drenched the concrete beneath the boy’s neck as Hans walked away with Emma’s sword.
‘I wasted the chance to try out my new sword’
Hans thought.
