Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 256
Chapter 256: The Hunter And The Prey
Hit after hit, the young boy folded under the pressure applied by the beast woman, every one of her attacks put him at risk of drawing his last breath.
Her fearsome legs befell upon the young boy, cracking the floor when she didn’t manage to hit him, and taking a bit of his blood when she managed to scratch him.
‘Not… yet’
Hans thought as he took yet another hit, barely sliding it off his blade before it could kill him.
Then, Hans moved behind the enormous leg and slashed it with all his strength right at the junction.
The leg snapped in half, but another one soon followed right after.
Hans hid behind the remnants of the broken leg and used them as a shield to divert the trajectory of the following attack.
Then, pushing his body again, he repeated what he had done before.
Every single breath hurt his lungs, maybe blood had already begun leaking inside his internal organs, not enough oxygen reached the cells all over his body, and just standing still felt like torture.
He still managed to snap the giant leg in half, but it wasn’t without cost…
Hans immediately threw up blood and understood…
The activation of the buff effect he intended to use couldn’t be delayed anymore.
{mana hyperboost}
His earrings’ special ability allowed him to burn through his mana reserves and decrease his wisdom to increase all his other stats.
Hans’s current wisdom stat, without counting his items’ bonuses, stood at the number 3750, and all his other stats, being exactly a tenth of that, stood at 375.
By burning through a maximum of ten percent of his wisdom, Hans could increase by one-third of the burnt wisdom all his other stats.
After doing that, Hans’ stats increased, bringing them up to 499, almost touching the halfway point of a thousand.
Regaining his breath, Hans’s chest enlarged and retracted, his panting resounding throughout the silent room before another leg flashed toward him.
This time, the young man managed to evade it.
It was strange thinking he managed to evade the attacks of someone with a dexterity stat more than 150 points higher than him, but probably because of her newly created form, or maybe because of her simple attacks’ trajectories, it didn’t seem that difficult to evade the attacks now that Hans had gotten used to his boosted stats.
However, this buff only lasted thirty minutes, he had to make the most out of it before it ended, because if it did, then he would find himself in a situation just as bad as the one he was in at the start.
As soon as he dashed out of the way to avoid being impaled by the monster’s leg, Hans deployed his aura and tore right through it with his sword.
‘And with this… there should be about two left before she falls down
Hans thought as the leg crumbled.
The woman was currently hiding above the fog, held up by her multiple legs, but if Hans managed to bring her down now that he was buffed, he might’ve got a shot at killing her.
That was his plan, but if he just brought her down and tried to kill her because he was buffed then he would’ve probably just resumed a disadvantageous battle for him.
He had to prepare properly…
In the meantime, somewhere in Europe, an old man was violently rubbing his temples as he stated at the person standing in front of him…
“And now?”
“We will send some agents to stop it.., however, we aren’t sure we’ll be able to avoid having any casualties…”

“Sigh… hurry up, we have to stop it before it gets in the central area of the city… we cannot afford…. To lose Rome”
…
Rome, Italy…
“Shit, shit, shit, shit!!”
A man barely managed to exclaim as he ran as fast as could.
Behind him… a horde of monsters was turning the city upside down, completely destroying the streets and the houses they came across.
The old Gianfranco was also in the same situation just a few meters beside him.
‘How damn stubborn…. They just won’t stop following us’
He thought.
His breathing was now not as stable as it was a few minutes prior, and a whisper reached his ears:
“I’m okay captain, I can run now, don’t worry you can put me down”
“As if I was dumb enough to believe that!… you can barely open your mouth, shut it, and wait for rescue”
Gianfranco knew that if he had really left the man he was carrying on his back behind, it wouldn’t have been long before he would end up as prey for those monsters.
Another man beside him asked:
“They weren’t that many before right?! Are they multiplying or something!?”
“Of course not! Now that we are in the open it might seem like there’s more but they’re just as many as they were underground.
The growlings of the horde of monsters behind them were the only thing that kept them running, fueling their muscles with the fear of death, the most powerful energy source.
‘I told him that but… it does look like there’s more now.
Could it be?! It wasn’t only the people in the central hall?… but all the guards we had to take out in order to get there also transformed into monsters?!’
They ran without looking back, hoping the rescue team would come before their deaths.
Gianfranco would be able to get out of there alive, even if he had to kill all those monsters, but he was sure he couldn’t do that while defending his teammates.
‘It’s better if we wait and pray!’
He thought to himself.
His grandson, however, wasn’t the prey in his fight, no… he looked more like the hunter.
Bashing down the giant spider’s legs one after the other, he had already prepared a trap for when the beast lady would eventually fall back to the ground.
The leg attacks had ceased, probably because of the lack of remaining legs, and Hans now had to hunt down the remaining legs inside of the fog, fortunately, his eyes managed to spot the three remaining legs, and he immediately began planning a way to break them.
Luckily, he could also spot the woman’s body, so he decided to aim directly for that.
He jumped towards the body lifted in the air by the huge legs, and when he managed to catch a glimpse of the silhouette, he saw that the spider’s legs sprouted from her back and not her lower body, he didn’t know if he should be happy that he didn’t get to see such a monstrosity or if he should be sad he didn’t amputate the woman’s only way to move around.
What he knew was that one of the three legs was already moving, aiming for his head.
The woman had lost her balance to raise one of her only three remaining legs and attack Hans with it, so the attack was also imbued by the strength coming from her weight.
If he didn’t avoid that desperate attack, Hans was pretty sure he would die.
Thankfully, he had a spell that allowed him to move even in the air, and he immediately took the chance to evade the attack.
He launched himself with {replulsion} a tier five wind path spell.
He had both a wind spell and a gravity spell named repulsion, both fifth tier, the difference was that while the gravity spell was specialized in repelling single targets, the wind spell worked like an air cannon, and shooting it allowed him to shoot himself backward in response.
He flew directly towards one of the two remaining legs, which the woman couldn’t move because she had already lost her balance.
Hans smashed the giant leg right at its juncture, causing it to be ripped apart, and causing the woman in the air to fall to the ground.
As soon as Hans saw her body falling, he laid out his boosting spell: {melting hell}(tier-7)
And activated the spells he had kept as a trap, making the whole place blow up.
He had planted more than a dozen tier-six {fire bomb} spells, and three sixth-tier {tornado} spells.
The explosion enveloped the whole room, Hans, who tried his best to shield himself, was sent flying, his back smashed against the stone wall.
The three doors were blown away by the explosion, and the whole room, which had already been tattered by the previous fighting, was now ruined even more.
The heat and the smoke of the explosion impacted Hans’s face, his skin felt almost sticky as the pores of his skin opened to let his sweat out.
It felt… like opening the oven and receiving a whiff of hot air… Hans had just opened the oven inside that closed space, and the heat that remained trapped inside the room was now melting everything in it.
The woman was nowhere to be seen, since even if the fog was fog gone, the dust created by the explosion now took its place.
