Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 259
Chapter 259: A Normal Butler
Somewhere in Italy… inside an underground facility belonging to the night market…
An old but sly-looking old man strapped two white gloves on his hands.
His white mustache and grey hair were almost in tone with the color of his gloves, and his white shirt under his black elegant jacket.
He was the ideal description of a butler.
“What has happened in these few days I haven’t seen you… For him to end up like this”
The butler gazed upon Hans’ body with somewhat dissatisfied eyes, and the young woman beside him didn’t stop him, she just kept her empty eyes gazing in the distance as she laid her hands on her biceps, which were leaning on a white desk.
“Come on, don’t be like that”
Emma said a few seconds later, her gaze still distant.
Turning his back on her, the old man fixed his glasses a little higher on his nose bridge and faced Hans, who was lying on a medical bed with a hole in his torso.
“Yes… I know I know… I’m just saying… I support all of your decisions, but I can’t get over your obsession with this boy.
If he got this injury from a fight the moment you met him, maybe the two of you just aren’t meant to be together… as a friend of course, and…. I suppose it was also because of him that you called an A-1 emergency”
“Ah… you heard about that”
Emma scuffed.
“I didn’t just ‘hear about that’ the whole association was in crisis, I directly executed your request, but I can’t understand why you would do this for…”
“For him?”
“… yes, that’s right, for him”
As they talked, the old man was inspecting the boy’s body, commenting something inwardly like:
‘This boy’s body is incredible for him to be a mage… mph… must be good to be blessed with such talent, and yet wasting it….’
However, not a single word left his mouth, because he didn’t want to offend the lady, or even worse, for his comment to be taken as a compliment.
“Do you even know where he got those wounds from?”
Emma asked hiding her face inside her arms, in the same position she would take when she was in school to sleep on her desk.
“Whatever the fight might have been, the cuts on his body aren’t much of a problem, but they don’t have a pattern, they look like they were made by a beast, as for the stab…
I don’t know what kind of beast he was fighting, but it looks scuffed and poorly made-”
“We are not talking about an art piece here”
Emma immediately scolded.
“Yeah… I know…. What I meant to say is that they could’ve made a better job, I mean he’s half dead-”
“Hey…. Stop that”
Emma’s gaze finally returned to the butler, she glanced at him from behind like a beast ready to attack him, and the man felt a shiver run down his spine.
“I was being serious…. This wound was probably done by a low-level beast, the cut surface is uneven meaning the hit didn’t contain that much strength or the blade-like object that pierced his torso was not that sharp….
To have faced defeat at the hands of such a weak creature, it’s quite the waste of his body”

The phrase he didn’t want to say came out of his mouth, and the young woman a few meters away from him clearly heard him.
“Are you saying he has potential?”
Emma asked shocked.
She wasn’t talking about magic… she knew Hans was one of the best mages on the planet, she was thinking about the one art the person standing in front of him had mastered…
{swordmanship}(SSS-rank)
Even if Emma had a lot of experience with her sword, and was also a master of many other weapons, earning her the SSS-rank skill:
{Melee weapons mastery}
She was ages behind the old man when it came to swordsmanship.
“Of course not!”
The old man immediately raised his voice as he replied.
“He already has little talent, but he can’t even use that, that’s what I meant!”
Emma wasn’t sure, but she could feel like that was a lie he made up at the moment…
However, in the future, she ‘saw’ Hans indeed had never held a sword, so she couldn’t tell whether or not the man was telling the truth.
“Well… I guess it would be pretty strange if you told me he had talent, after all, your eyes might need a little bit of help, seems like passing seventy years of age made you lose your sight”
“Not really my lady, thank you for worrying but my eyes are better than ever”
“Really? You couldn’t even recognize a scar made by one of the strongest people in this country….”
“What?!”
The butler immediately turned around surprised.
‘People? One of the strongest people…
This wound has clearly been made by a monster… the only person capable of doing something like this…’
“The crimson lady?!”
He exclaimed, taking a few steps away from the boy as a couple of droplets of sweat formed on his face.
“Oh? Your sight came back old man?”
Commented Emma as she lay once again her head on her arms, just to mess with him a little bit.
The elegant old man regained his composure fairly quickly and returned to his inspection of the boy.
“Still… It’s pretty strange for one of her hits to be this weak…. Are you sure he was fighting against her?”
“Ah… if you don’t want to trust me you can just find out about it on your own”
The girl said, slightly bored and annoyed by the continuous buzz of the old man.
“Hohoho… maybe I should ask her myself, if she hits so lightly then I might be able to visit her hideout and come out unscathed.”
The ‘butler’ was cracking a joke, but a serious response came back to him:
“Ah…. I’m not sure you can do that…”
“Mh? Anything troubling you?”
“No, no, I didn’t mean it neither for me nor for you…”
“Then…?”
The man was baffled.
“The lady of crimson… she… how to say…. She’s no more”
The chin of the old man dropped open.
“She… died?”
“Ah… yes, I guess that’s another way to say it”
“And…. You know…. just to-”
“Yes… it was him”
“Alright… I take it back”
“I wasn’t here for that anyway…. I need to know if you can do something”
“To the kid?”
“To my friend”
A few seconds passed before the man sighed and started talking again
“I think… I could patch him up”
“Thank you”
“I only said I could patch him up.
If you want to heal him… I think you might need to ask-”
“I know…. It’s gonna be a pain, but it will get pretty funny when it comes to it, you remember her request right?”
“Yes, what about it?”
“Look carefully at Hans”
The old man ran his eyes over the youngster’s body, and he stopped suddenly when he noticed a little particular….
“Haha, I guess it will be funny to see”
He couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.
“Anyway… I don’t approve of this boy”
“Uh?”
Enma raised her head.
“I mean… he must be skilled with magic, and he might have a tiny bit of talent for the sword, but the most important thing is his character, the fact that he went to fight the crimson lady means he must be very impulsive, I don’t approve”
“First of all, what are you talking about…
Second of all, it was me who asked him to go there, I miscalculated, thinking the crimson lady would be in Rome but she was in Naples, that might’ve been my bad.”
A little bit flustered by the reply, the old man continued:
“Whatever! He should’ve run away, and not made you worry so much, he doesn’t think enough about the consequences of his actions on you!”
“What… are you-”
“Whatever it is! Other than being the lady, I also consider you like a granddaughter of mine, I think every grandpa should have a say in who their grandchild chooses to partner up with!
And so…
I object!”
A few seconds later, a red mark with five fingers appeared on the face of the old man, who now barely stood up from the numbing effect of the hit he received.
“Sigh… is that why you hated him so much?! You thought I was raising a boyfriend and I was then going to marry him or something?!”
Still, in pain, the old man was too curious to hold his questions back:
“If he wasn’t going to be your boyfriend then… why call an A-1 emergency for his death… I mean, if you really cared about him maybe a B-1 would almost have been acceptable, but…”
“You think he’s unworthy of such attention?”
Emma asked, resulting in a nod from the old man.
“I’m not treating him like this because he’s my friend….
Listen carefully old man, I’m not going to repeat myself”
Emma pulled out of her necklace’s space a crystal ball, she placed it on the table and put her hand on it, the old man did the same, and only then did the woman begin to talk.
“If that boy dies it’s the end…
Neither you nor I can begin to fathom…
His importance in the scheme of this reality”
The ball shattered in thousands of shards and both of them remained silent.
Their solemn pupils stared at each other as the joking expression they once had painted on their faces completely vanished.
