Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 276
Chapter 276: Broken Vinyl
A few minutes had passed since Hans called the branch leader of Milan, and another call was already coming back, this time the receiver was the young man…
He quickly picked it up and waited for the other person to talk, not wasting any time.
“Good afternoon Mr. Hans, I wanted to call you to convey to you the news:
We have found what you had asked us to”
“Really? Where the hell did she end up?”
“They found her in the house of an awakened in Greece, fortunately, she hadn’t hurt anyone so they didn’t take any drastic measures”
Hans let out a sigh of relief before thanking the man, who instead replied in another way:
“Don’t thank me yet… there are two buts…
First of all, it seems like the little snake has repeatedly refused to cooperate, so you might have to intervene before they decide to take action…
Hans remained silent… he definitely wouldn’t have forgiven someone who killed Ember even when knowing she was his pet, but the first thing on his list was to try to save her not avenge her.
However the person on the other side of the phone still wasn’t done, they had one last thing to ask the young man:
“And secondly… I hope you haven’t forgotten what you promised”
“No… of course not, you have my word, what else could you need?
I’ll tell you, the person I was fighting in Naples is someone you know very well, she’s part of the Crimson Tyranny, and she’s fricking strong…
Is that enough of a hint?”
“You… fought with the crimson lady?!
How did it-”
Hans hung up, he had already given all the information he had promised to provide, any more than that would have been nothing but a gift for the Association.
“So she’s in Greece huh… let me come to find you…. Ember”
Hans told the pilot his destination, and they had to wait just a couple of minutes to receive clearance from both airports.
He departed as soon as he could and landed in Greece in the late afternoon.
There, he had to take a car that brought him to the place where Ember was supposedly ‘refusing to cooperate’.
…
In a certain hideout of the night market in Germany, a woman was sipping on an orange drink with a few ice cubes in it.
She slowly drank it as she thought about what happened with Hans…
Just beside her, an old man who looked tired had been patiently listening to all her problems over and over again for the past three hours…
She was like a broken vinyl, repeating the same things without ever changing the argument.
In a last attempt to relieve the woman and be set free from the endless talking, the man tried to comfort her…
“Don’t worry my lady, I’m sure he will realize everything as time passes-”
“No… no he won’t realize anything… If he’s set on doing or thinking something he’s like a high-speed train… impossible to stop for any normal humans”

Thinking he was finally getting somewhere, the old man continued:
“But you aren’t just a normal human, are you?”
He said with a warm smile on his face.
The meaning behind his words however didn’t seem to be reaching the girl as she continued:
“For him, sometimes I think I might be, I mean he would probably choose to save his snake’s life over m-”
Emma immediately stopped talking.
She raised her hands as she slightly pulled her hair from the root….
It was like a stress relief…
The old man, not noticing any of this since he had been there for way too long, was just going on about something like:
“How could you say that? We both know well that you’re anything but normal and if what you told me is true, you must be a very important person to Hans, there’s no way he would ever-”
He was interrupted by some whispers…
They were slowly rising… speeding up as they became more desperate than before…
The source was the woman beside him, she whispered something repeatedly…
They were like murmurs…
Indistinguishable…
But the old man went closer to the lady’s mouth with his ear exactly like someone who wanted his classmate to repeat something without the professor knowing would do…
And he finally heard what Emma had been whispering for all this time… she repeated:
“He’s gonna kill me… he’s gonna kill me…”
The old man was immediately shocked… he shook the woman’s arm as he watched her worried.
When she came out of trance, she watched him full of panic as she asked:
“What’s happening?”
Just as panicked, the man replied:
“I don’t know my lady you repeated something… you said someone will kill you and you seemed terrified? Was that another one of your prophecies?!
And who is going to kill you?!
Relieved it was just that, Emma took a long sigh…
“I was referring to Hans…”
The face of the old man distorted as he asked:
“What?!”
Embarrassed, Emma touched the back of her head as he said:
“I might have forgotten his snake pet in Greece”
The old man took a few seconds to pause and facepalm…
‘My lady you… are incredibly good at creating misunderstandings’
He thought.
…
While Emma was dealing with her remorse and fear that Hans would become even more hostile to her after what she had done, a group of awakened in Greece had been holding the perimeter of a house for the last three hours…
A blonde young boy with average looks was talking to the woman standing on guard just beside him.
“… I mean like what are we even guarding this house for? We might not be S-rank awakened but we are still D-ranks, and our captain’s a C-rank, what are we waiting here for? I didn’t sign up for this! We should be fighting in gates and saving people’s lives…”
The black-haired girl was kind of fed up with his monologue, he had been yapping nonstop for almost two hours and a half, and he seemed to be nowhere near done…
But… he wasn’t completely wrong, that might have been the reason why the girl didn’t just punch him in the face two hours earlier.
…
It was their team’s first mission, and they were supposed to be some kind of ‘elites’.
They were second-year students of the Awakened Academy of Athens, and they were out there doing field experience, their teachers were even supposed to be monitoring them from somewhere…
They were a mix of the magic class and the physical education class, respectively five and six students in each class, and they were paired up and spread out in order to guard the perimeter of the house, with the exception of three people standing in front of the main gate.
The black-haired girl was a third-tier mage, and she also felt like deploying so many awakened to guard a house was somewhat unnecessary.
The other guy continued…
“I mean what’s even supposed to be inside this house?!”
“You want to know what’s inside my house?”
A third person joined the conversation, her voice was incredibly familiar to both of them and so was her face as soon as they turned around and saw her.
The sunglasses she was wearing were nowhere near enough to mask her face…
It was the face of the most influential and powerful woman in their country…
They had seen her everywhere…
In every post, in every tweet, on every billboard, in every Awakened ranking…
She was always the person who appeared the most…
Eleni Christou.
They were both left breathless, especially the young man, who almost couldn’t contain his excitement and was about to ask for a photo.
Her hair… her skin… everything was as perfect as in her pictures… no, she was even more beautiful.
But something caught their ear…
Her house!! They had been guarding her house?!
“S-sorry I didn’t know we had been tasked with such an important mission”
The young man immediately apologized.
But a relaxed smile from the woman was all it took for his ashamed and worried face to return to normal.
“It’s ok, it won’t be my house anymore after everything that happened”
They both wanted to know what she was referring to when saying: Everything that happened…
And the young man gathered enough courage to ask:
“Excuse… If I may…. Could you tell us what you’re referring to”
“Uh… I guess it’s ok, they’ll tell you as soon as this mission’s over anyway…”
The eyes of the two students lit up as they fantasized about the secret she was about to reveal.
“What you’re guarding right now isn’t a human or a property, it isn’t even a precious material…”
“But then…”
The confused girl asked.
“Then what is it?”
Eleni finished her question for her before answering.
“It’s a beast”
“What?!”
They both said in unison…
“I said it’s a beast”
A few seconds passed before one of them talked again…
“Yes… we… we heard you, it’s just that…
What kind of beast-”
“What do you think you’re doing!”
Someone yelled in the distance, causing the three of them to turn their heads immediately.
