Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 282
Chapter 282: The Sixth Floor
Various seconds passed, and the doors still showed no signs of opening.
Hans began to wonder whether or not a sixth floor truly existed.
Almost a full minute was the time it took for the door of the elevator to open again, and Hans wasn’t surprised when he was met with yet another familiar view.
‘Well… I guess I should be happy I managed to get out of there at least’
Hans thought to himself as he observed the surroundings
He didn’t dare to remain inside the elevator any further than that, after all, considering the time it took him to get to the sixth floor, there wasn’t anything that assured him he wouldn’t just remain stuck inside there.
Behind his back, the doors to the elevator closed one last time, and he wasn’t surprised by the little sound they caused…
He was more shocked to finally find a few signs, or at least, something that could vaguely tell him which side he should go.
There were five paths he could take.
The first one…
On his right, a corridor exactly equal to all the others was differentiated by a little golden tag hanging on the white wall to the left.
Hans didn’t even try to read what was written in the middle of the plaque, it was a Chinese character that Hans could not understand, but just beneath it was written in English:
“Mr. Lu”
Hans barely gave it any importance, he quickly skipped over to the following one.
This corridor led toward the front left, and another plaque was hung on the left side wall of the hallway.
It was exactly the same as the first one but instead of being written in Chinese, the text was directly written in English… or to be precise, it was written in French.
It read:
“Mme. Laurent”
Both the text font and the plaque were identical to the ones in all the other corridors.
As for his third choice, the hallway that led straight forward had a little difference…
The plaque was hung on the end of the tunnel, on a wooden door, and even if it was about a dozen meters away, Hans could still barely see it.
It read:
“Sra. Vargaz”
The fourth one, equal to the first and the second, had the plaque hung on the wall, but instead of being on the left side, it was on the right one.
It read:
“Hr. Schmidt”
And while Hans expected to find another name on the fifth plaque, it was left completely empty and untouched.
The place was incredibly clean even if the floor was covered by a seemingly old-style moquette, and for some unknown reason, Hans felt like even that was caused by an array.
He wasn’t sure of what path he should take, but he guessed that if he were to come out clean and ask someone about how he could get to the library, then he would prefer to talk about it to the highest authority in there, and it was clear which one was the one he should choose…
Hans didn’t hesitate, he felt like he would be safe no matter his choice.

Maybe that confidence was something he obtained as his power grew…
He walked forward, completely ignoring all other paths apart from the middle one.
With every step he took, the words in the distance became clearer, and he could indeed confirm that he had seen correctly…
The wooden door on the end of the corridor had a golden plaque, the same color as the handle, which had the words, “Sra. Vargaz” imprinted on it.
‘If I am right, then on this floor reside the apex of the association… four honorary leaders, and… the fifth path must be empty for anyone who might come in the future’
Hans had already figured out the hierarchy of this island, and the organization of the floors, but…
He wasn’t exactly right about everything.
He reached the door in just a few seconds and raised his hand at the height of his chest.
“Knock knock”
Hans knocked twice on the wooden door, which made a loud enough sound to reach the ears of the person inside the room.
A woman was reading a couple of pages of files as she browsed through the few papers she had in her hands when she heard the knocking on her office’s door.
She sighed as she let the papers fall to her desk before touching her temples with her right hand.
‘”Quién es esta vez?’
She thought annoyed…
“Sì?”
She said.
Hans heard her from the other side of the wall.
Without thinking twice, he pulled the handle down and pushed the door open, revealing a dimly lit office.
The first thing Hans noticed, before even seeing the woman seated just behind the desk in front of him, was that no glass walls or windows were installed in the room… how strange, for an office situated at the top of a tower, why wouldn’t the architect make use of the natural lighting?
It felt suffocating.
But as soon as he was done criticizing the place, Hans began to observe the woman who was staring at him with doubtful eyes.
She had long black hair and an authoritative air around her.
She was dressed in black, and even her slightly wrinkled skin didn’t affect her beauty that much.
Her calm and composed voice resounded throughout the room as she said:
“Y quién se supone que eres?”
Hans was taken aback… he wasn’t exactly sure about what she had said, but he was sure she was talking Spanish…
“Uh… English, please?”
Hans wasn’t even sure about what to say…
If the woman didn’t understand English, then his words wouldn’t be anything but wasted.
He watched her full of expectations as he hoped that she would reply in English, and luckily…
“As I already said…
Who’re you supposed to be?”
Hans let out a sigh as he took a few steps inside the office.
He closed the door behind his back, resulting in the woman slightly squinting her eyes in displeasure.
“First of all, I think it would be kind of me to introduce myself so that’s what I’ll do, I have come here just because I wanted to ask something.”
As he talked, Hans walked towards the desk and pulled a wooden chair with a leather cushion on its seat and back.
He switched from gazing at the woman to gazing at the seat a couple of times as if asking if he could accommodate himself.
After a short pause, the woman let out another long sigh before nodding.
And so, Hans sat down on one of the two seats opposite to her.
Before he could open his mouth to start his explanation, someone else knocked on the door…
The woman closed her eyes attempting to restrain herself and said:
“Sì?”
This time, her tone was higher and more annoyed.
The door opened as soon as she replied, revealing a short old man with grey hair.
His back was slightly curved and his hairline receding, but his white beard that resembled a goat’s painted a lively expression on his face.
“Well, I can’t say I’m not happy to be here”
The old man said with a dumb smile on his face.
He walked all the way to the seat beside Hans without saying anything, and the woman in front of him still had her eyes closed, trying to control herself.
Hans found her behavior strange but didn’t say anything.
Well, actually, if he wanted to say anything at all, then it would be commenting on that strange dress worn by the old man.
It was something similar to a kimono worn by judo practitioners, but it had a more elegant and refined look, other than that, it was also black and made out of seemingly precious silk.
The old man sat beside Hans and observed him for a second before turning towards the woman and saying:
“How’s your day going?”
“Mr.Lu, please stop with all this chit-chat, could you tell us what you’ve come here for?”
Hans immediately recognized the name… Mr. Lu.
He was another one of the people residing on the fifth floor, possibly an honored leader of the association.
“Aw, come on, that can wait for later, why would we waste such precious time talking about annoying things when we could be telling each other stories about our lives”
“Mr. Lu!”
A piercing gaze from the woman made the old man frown and stop talking, and Hans simply stood there on the side watching.
He was mainly shocked because of two things:
First off, the level of the two people standing in front of him…
As he expected, they were both more than qualified to be elected as honorary leaders…
But most importantly…
Mr. Lu, his class was… Array expert {unique}, which meant that he was the one who set up the countless arrays spread around the island, and also probably the master who had created the protective array around the MAVI.
