Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 65
Guilty
That way, even if I were to go astray and destroy everything, she wouldn’t regard it as her fault.”
“I know it’s quite shameless for me to say this to someone who is a hero and has sacrificed everything for the country, but..”
Hans felt incredibly guilty proposing something like this.
“What about suicide? Couldn’t you just point a sword to your own throat and end it?”
The white haired man watched him with a sense of regret in his eyes.
And his faint voice once again spoke:
“If I could’ve done that, I would be lying in a coffin underground by now.”
“I apologize” said Hans bowing.
He didn’t bow to the powerful, nor to the wealthy, but not respecting such a person, would’ve brought nothing but dishonour upon his soul.
“But… that still doesn’t explain why you’re asking me for my information”
The man closed his eyes briefly, and started to speak once again:
“Boy, do you know how much I have left? Maybe a year, no, maybe a few months.
The moment I lose control, a catastrophe worse than that snake will befall upon this world.
If not stopped in time, my body might completely wipe out humanity.”
“What are you talking about? There are many powerful hunters overseas, even if you were to lose control, someone will surely stop yo-”
“No, no they won’t, not because they don’t want to, but because they’re unable to.”
“I’ll tell you one thing, last time I fought that snake, he was on a different level compared to S-ranks, and with all the time that has passed,it might’ve even advanced to a further level.
If after I lose control, I were to fight the snake.
It wouldn’t even last a minute”
“That’s impossible! The abyssal snake has a registered level of SS-rank, and by now, it should be about SSS-rank, do you know what that means?!
It means that even if a nuclear bomb was to be dropped right above his head it wouldn’t even gaze it.
But now, you come here and tell me it wouldn’t even last a single minute against you, what would that make you?!!
A god?!”
The low voice replied in all seriousness:
“Maybe”
Hans was about to explode, talking to such a person, he just couldn’t be reasoned with, or maybe, Hans just wasn’t ready for the truth.
He had always regarded the abyssal snake as the worst monster that could ever exist, and it was his reference point.
Maybe, knowing that there was something even above it would’ve made him lose his will to fight, so he decided to deny it.
“Don’t kid me!
I get that you’re an epic class, but this is beyond what you can ach-

Hans voice wasn’t coming out of his throat anymore.
His mind had just realized something he couldn’t even dream to think of.
“You! You lied!”
The other man, feeling guilty, watched his paralyzed legs, not daring to raise his eyes.
“Watch me in the eyes! Watch me in the eyes and tell me that you didn’t!”
Hans grabbed the man’s face, while the other tried his best to avoid meeting Hans’s gaze.
“That’s right… I… lied”
The strength left Hans’s arms, as his mind tried its best to hold his body back from throwing the most powerful spell he could think of to the person in front of him.
“My class, it isn’t an epic one, and its name isn’t angel’s knight.
My class’s name was: angel
And its rank…
Was
Legendary”
Hans let go of the grip from the man’s face and vest.
“It all makes sense now, I researched much about you, but something was always off.
You entered way too little gates, yet your power kept being above the other epic classes all over the world.
It was like you had the power from the beginning.
Now, tell me the truth!
otherwise I’ll make sure to make your niece pays for your mistakes!”
Hans, lost in anger, went as low as threatening a dying patient to obtain what he wanted.
And the white haired man did as told without complaining.
“From the moment I awakened, I knew my class was special.
All over the world, people started to flaunt their skills and classes, so the moment they begun asking me for my class, I just said it was an epic one.
Truth was, it wasn’t, my legendary class let me obtain 6 points every time I levelled up instead of 4, and the skills were incomparably overwhelming.
To the point that even entering gates once a week I could stand above those who worked hard everyday.
As time passed, my lie became more obvious, but no one discovered my secret, I had to be extremely careful, to the point that I started faking to raid gates just to keep my level down.”
“But why!?” Screamed Hans, angered to death, with eyes lost in killing intent.
His mana emanated throughout the whole structure, even reaching the senses of the two waiting outside.
It rebounded on the steel walls, coming back countless times to Elijah, who seemed to be surprised, even if not affected.
It was chaotic, the mana emanated from him didn’t seem to belong to the world.
“Why? Just why didn’t you grow despite having such opportunities, just why?!”
“What do you think would’ve happened to the world if I had done that?!
Everyone would’ve been dependent on me, I would’ve been reduced to a slave for humanity!”
“That’s bullsh*t!
You had a chance to save everyone, but you let them die because you didn’t want to bother with it?!”
The tone of the conversation, that had grown incomparably, suddenly quieted down, as the sick man explained his thoughts:
“Think of ants, they have incredible potential, they can lift ten times of their body weight, but they’re limited by their size.
Do you think if you give an ant the size of a dog it’ll spend its life working as a slave just to feed the others who treated it just as a replaceable resource?!
No!
It’ll leave, and find a place to live in peace without any bothers, it’s already enough for it not to crush its previous nest to dust”
“Are you comparing human lives to ants?!”
The other person showed signs of going crazy.
“You know, the day I found my niece under the stones of her destroyed house, her parents weren’t there.
My brother and his wife had gone into the neighbour’s house to try and get them out of the disaster,
since a monster had crushed into the home, and both the neighbours remained trapped inside it.
They said that the monster returned, and both my brother and Chloe’s mother tried to hold it back to let the other two escaped.
But it seemed strange right? Why would two parents of a child sacrifice their lives for two almost strangers?
There wasn’t any evidence, so I couldn’t say anything.
But just when I was prepared to give up, something came to me, I still had a witness:
my niece.
From the window of the house, she had seen those two bastards pushing her mother towards the monster as soon as it arrived, forcing my brother to sacrifice himself.
The day after she confessed those things to me, I wiped those bastards off the face of the earth with my own two hands.
My reply to you is yes,
some human lives are even worth less than ants, it didn’t bother me seeing them die.
But that day, in Manhattan, I realised my mistake, and wished for the strength I hadn’t worked for.
I made a mistake”
“How could you, someone with such powers say that?! you should be an example for the others”
“I am just a human!! I make mistakes! Am I not allowed to?!”
“A human’s mistake is breaking someone’s heart or getting their shirt dirty while eating.
Your mistake killed millions of innocent people!
That’s what a monster does.”
“You … do not deserve those powers”
“I never wanted them to begin with!
If god exists, then he’s a coward, just giving me those powers and telling me to do everything, he should’ve done it himself!”
“It’s you who’s the coward! you’re just running away and finding excuses for the fact that you’re nothing but a murderer!
You a hero? An ant, would’ve done better than you.”
Hans gave a last warning before finally coming out of the room.
He watched Elijah right in the eyes and said:
“This is the second time in your life that that stupid “seed” is saving your life.
Because know damn well that if it wasn’t for it you wouldn’t be breathing right now.
I promise you this: as soon as I have enough power do do so, I’ll come down here, and rip you throat apart with my own two hands.
So you better keep your neck clean for that day.”
As the door closed behind him, the man in the room began chuckling while crying.
“Yes, that’s it is.
That’s how it has to be”
“Brother, I’ll come meet you soon, give me time to atone for my sins”
