Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 70
Return
“Hans Richter, you are dead meat'”
‘Oh crap, I forgot about this!’
A polished blade was standing right beside his neck making it bleed slightly.
Hans watched the man who was threatening his life, and started sweating.
“H-hey, shouldn’t we talk about it”
“Silence!”
Interrupted the other.
As the man tried his best not to slice Hans’ neck right on the spot, his angered face could be seen even amongst the shadows.
“Are you aware of what you have done wrong”
He asked in an imposing manner.
“Hey, I’m sorry I didn’t really want to-”
“I asked! If you are aware of what you’ve done wrong”
“I-i am”
The man in the shadows sighed.
“Five weeks.
a month and four days, three hours and twenty seven minutes.
That is the time you have been away for.
When a branch leader is absent, the branch will usually fall, reason why, someone is to act as a substitute, even while still retaining his previous position.
For more than a month, I have slept for barely three hours a day, eating while working and hurrying to the restroom to avoid wasting any time.
All that because an irresponsible prick left weeks without giving any further indication.
You could’ve been dead, or you could’ve been on the other side of the world.
Now tell me, what was so important for you to leave for a whole month, and leave everything you should’ve done to me”
Asked the man, takking a step out of the shadows, and revealing his furious yet emotionless face.
It was Kenta.
‘If I tell him I was reading…
he’ll kill me wont he?”
“I-i had really important matters to attend to”
“Oh~ our poor Hans had really important matters”
Said the other in a mocking tone.
“If you don’t tell me where you’ve been up till now I’ll chop that damn head off from your shoulders”

Kenta had changed, so much that he wasn’t recognizable anymore, almost seeming like another person.
Lately, he was acting so strangely that Hans had to analyze him with his {mystic insight}.

“I really thank you for what you’ve done, but shouldn’t you put down your weapon first?”
Said Hans in quite the worried tone.
The not so unreasonable Kenta lowered his weapon, and took a brief pause before talking once again like when they first met:
“The internal situation is honestly a mess, the most capable person probably wouldn’t even be able to take care of a dog, not to talk about a city.
It seems like the previous branch leader had the habit of doing everything by himself, leading to this mess of an organization”
Hans nodded agreeing.
“Then there’s another problem: we are short of money.
Well, we don’t risk bankruptcy, but we are certainly not on par with the other branches like the LA one for example.
Being that the association branch does not have an overwhelming power over this city, we aren’t able to monopolize the gates properly, and thus we aren’t able to get richer.
And then there’s one last problem: we basically don’t have a leader, being that you’re inept and always away doing something else.”
Hans reacted with a little panicking, watching away, and sweating from his forehead.
He had indeed left the branch behind like a terrible leader, if his work didn’t require such attention, then Garrison wouldn’t have had to quit to go and increase his level and power.
“How about this, I’ll repent for my mistakes by abdicating.”
Said Hans.
And as a reply from Kenta came this: “you’re really greedy aren’t you?
You’ve taken everything you wanted from the association and now you’re leaving, who do you think will take your position, what if someone like Logan steps up?”
Hans however, more than worried looked confused, he watched Kenta trying to make him understand.
“Wait! You fucking bastard are you thinking of-”
“Kenta Kurogane, I appoint you as my successor”
Kenta’s eyes became red from the killing intent, as he gripped the hilt of his katana, unleashing it from the scabbard.
He raised it high above his head, touching the ceiling and slightly holing it.
Then, he let it fall with all his power on to the man in front of him.
However, the hit was blocked by something extremely sturdy, and a loud noise was made while the air around them blew towards the wall, trying to escape from the clash.
{mana shield}
“Hey, what is the meaning of this”
Hans’ tone changed completely when the other side took out a sword.
Kenta however, was more interested in how could such a thin barrier completely block his attack, even if he had slightly held back, that was still the power of a top B-rank.
The truth was that mana barrier is the only skill increasing at the same pace as the mage’s tier and mana control, so in that small thin shield, was condensed a ton of mana, that Hans managed to skillfully compact to create a defensive barrier.
“As I have already told you, calm down, or I won’t be so gentle to you even if you have split personalities”
The sword retreated immediately, and Kenta also took a few steps back.
“How do you know that?”
‘So the skill was indeed right, what a strange trait’
Kenta calmed down and Hans left the association after signing a few documents that needed his approval.
When he was about to leave however, Kenta interrupted him, asking:
“Hans, have you perhaps enraged someone powerful while you were away?”
Hans turned back watching him seated on the sofa, and quite worried he said:
“No, I pretty much haven’t made any contact with people, why do you ask?”
“The thing is…
About ten days ago when I returned home, a woman was waiting for me in my room”
“Good for you, but what does that have to do with me?”
“Let me finish!
She wasn’t a normal woman, not only was she an unmatched beauty, that could be seen even under her mask, but she even knew who I was.”
“I’m proud of you, now I’ll get going okay?”
“I said… let. Me. Finish!
Hans, I don’t know how she got in, my door was locked and even I, an assassin type awakened, who has keen senses, wasn’t able to detect her”
“She must’ve gotten in from the window”
Replied Hans not caring about it, while going on out.
But a hand grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back.
“Hans can you stop saying dumb sh*t and listen, it’s important”
“No!”
“I don’t want to have anything to do about it, she sounds like trouble just by hearing her description, she must be a powerful and beautiful woman, both of which are akin to calamity magnets”
Rebelled Hans, acting like a child, while trying his best to get out of that office without hearing anymore.
As Kenta began speaking once again, Hans covered both his ears:
“I can’t hear you don’t waste oxygen by talking to me”
“Hans, she must’ve been at least an S-rank”
Hans tried his best to get out before hearing anything else but Kenta managed to finish his sentence.
“And she said she was searching for you”
Hans turned around with a shocked expression:
“What?”
And in the meantime he thought:
‘Fuck’
“She must’ve been waiting for you all this time, and now that you’ve returned, she’ll definitely find you, it’s better if you don’t sleep tonight”
“As if”
Said Hans, leaving Kenta behind a closed door.
He returned home, and hung his jacket, as he was taking off his shoes, the steps of someone running towards him became louder and louder.
They then finally stopped, and raising his head, Hans saw a boy staring at him, with tears in his eyes.
“Hey Aiden, how are you doi-”
The boy dashed forward, and hugged Hans, clenching him tightly between his arms.
“Hey hey hey, what’s wrong?”
Asked Hans putting his hand on Aiden’s head.
“Brother”
“Sniffle sniffle”
“I thought something happened to you”
The boy then started crying into Hans’s chest, while he panicked trying to calm him down.
