Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 75
Chapter 75: Talents
“Now, let us start with the lesson.
Can anyone tell me what distinguishes mages?”
The girl seated in the first row raised her hand, and Hans called out nodding:
“Yes Mia”
She was surprised by the fact that Hans knew her name, this teacher had gone out of his way to remember their names, and she was thankful for that.
Being called by one’s name was more comfortable than being called as “you” or something else.
After spacing out for a bit, she started talking.
“As we already know a small percentage of the people have a chance to awaken, but even among them, only a few do so with a mage class, and are able to walk down the path of a mage.
What differentiates mages from warriors is the use of different energies.
While a mage creates attacks based off mana, knights usually only use their bodies, and when experienced enough, they can enchant their blows further with aura.”
“That’s right, and can someone tell me how mages do that?”
The girl once again raised her hand, and even if quite annoyed by the fact that she was the only one participating, Hans gave her the permission to answer.
“A mage stores his mana in the circles around his heart, he then uses his own mana to manipulate the atmosphere’s one, and create spells, that can have various different elements and effects.
While the circles spin, a mage’s body will become one with the world’s mana, meaning that the more circles one has active, the less resistance will the mana present in the air display.
For example, while counting mana as a number, if it would take about ten mana for a tier-1 mage to cast a Tier-1 spell, then it would take about two mana for a Tier-2 mage.”
“That’s right, thank you for explaining once again”
Hans had actually wondered about how he could be a good teacher even while having never had anything to do with school for almost four years.
But the answer surprisingly came up pretty quickly when thinking back about his school days.
The best teacher was without any doubt the one who could take the attention of all the students, making them all be part of the lesson instead of just letting them rot on the school desks while they try to memorize useless informations.
“You guys already know it, but I’ll repeat just to make sure you all have it in mind.”
When you awaken, even while having a class of the mage path, you won’t directly be a mage.
Up until level ten, you won’t be able to cast any spells apart from your class ones, unless through the use of expensive artifacts.
Even when you reach level ten, and the system recognizes you as a genuine tier-1 mage, you will have to cast at least a tier 1 spell to be recognized as such by the association.
After tier-1 the tier goes up, two, three, four… reaching in the end tier-7, there is someone who is said to be on the brink of breaking through the eighth circle, and she’s a European mage, but we still don’t know if it exists.
But enough about that, who of you are able to cast spells already?”
This was the best possible way to teach, letting some of the students show off their abilities to make them feel good, and letting the other students learn from what they did.
Also, when not excessive, competition could be a really good tempering method for the students’ mentality.
Two people in the class raised their hands.
First of all, Ryan, at the back of the class, that held his right hand high in the air with an arrogant smirk on his face.
And then there was a a girl with blue hair, that had been silently sitting alone in one of the middle rows since the start of the lessons.

She looked cold and bored, but she still raised her hand.
“Alright then, I’ll have to trouble the two of you to come here and give everyone a demonstration”
The two students did as told, and faced each other in front of all the seated classmates.
One opposite to the other they both watched Hans just beside them, asking him what they had to do.

Description: a young mage with huge ambitions, his latent talent is good, but his insight is blinded by ignorance and arrogance.
Evaluation: barely passable as a tier 1, there is a slight chance he might even lose against someone that doesn’t know how to use spells above apprentice (tier-0) level.
He also doesn’t seem to have any battle experience, he was probably helped by a few people to level up.
Emotional state: excited, confident}

She has the abilities of a medium ranked tier-1 mage
Evaluation: a mid tier one mage, her mana is abundant and her control over it is very precise
Emotional state: …. }
“Evelyn” said Hans, watching the blue haired girl.
“You will have to throw your ice shards forward, while Ryan, you’ll have to throw your earth projectiles.
Understood?”
They both nodded, but in their minds they couldn’t help but wonder how this teacher knew about their spells.
A casting time of about five second was enough for both of them to create their respective spells.
Even if it was only a tier one spell, it wasn’t bad for tier 1 mages to cast it so fast, of course the girl seemed to have held back to avoid hurting Ryan while he was still casting.
If she was alone, it probably wouldn’t have taken her more than three seconds.
Hans cast was immediate, thanks to him being a true mage, but for other people things weren’t so easy.
A mage would have to be at least three tier above the spell he wants to cast for it to be instantaneous, meaning that it would take a tier-4 mage to instantly cast a tier one spell.
The two spells thrown by the students collided, but it ended with both of them shattering.
It was really nothing much, pretty ordinary, they had about the same strength as someone throwing the spells with their hands, even if, obviously, being able to create the earth and ice projectiles was more convenient than picking them up.
“Thank you for you demonstration, you can return to your seats”
Hans then started talking to all the students:
“What you have just seen was the collision between two first rank spell.
They weren’t class skills, but magic spells, that can either be found from clearing a dungeon, created through countless studies, or learnt from books and teachers.
While for the next five years I won’t be able to teach you any class skill, I will do my best to help you develop all these spells, and your control over them.
Hans then started lecturing about the properties of mana, and testing the students compatibility with various elements.
Strangely enough, he found someone whose affinity reached all elements: Mia.
When he analyzed her, he found out the reason.
{name: Mia Sanders
Class: Spirit Elementalist (rare)
Age: 14
Lv: 2
Strength: 1 dexterity: 2
Endurance: 1 wisdom: 3
Spirit affinity: 13
Class skills:
{Spirit detection}
{spirit language}
{spirit summoning}
{spirit contract}
Skills:
None
Description: a girl born with incredible affinity with spirits, her awakening as a spirit Elementalist highlighted her talents even more, also making her gain affinity with all elements.
The ones she is most exceptionally gifted in, are the light and dark attributes.
Evaluation: currently not much.
She has an otherworldly potential, in the distant future, she might be able to create a contract with, and summon, a king level spirit.}
‘Wow, it’s the first time I’ve ever seen the system describe something as otherworldly except for me.
Spirit kings, I’ve read about it in the library of the association New York’s branch.
Only one of such existences is present for every element.
For example, there is only a sole spirit king of fire, and if any other high ranking spirit aims to advance, it will have challenge and defeat the current king.
Spirits of this caliber have never touched nor appeared on planet earth, and all the informations known about them are given by the lower ranking spirits befriended by some spiritualists.
Being an awakened is rare, even more so being a mage, and even among mages, the spiritualists are an incredibly rare class.
And this kid not only has the chance of becoming one, she has the chance of becoming the strongest of them.
Does this mean she could potentially become one of the most powerful and influential people on the planet?’
Asked himself hans while the girl was just patiently staring back at him, waiting for a result.
