Only Wisdom Awakened - Chapter 80
Chapter 80: Lizardmen
-huh?-
-who am I?-
-what am I doing here?-
-why me?-
“Come on you can do it! Believe in yourself!”
Screamed Hans at her from afar.
“Teacher kindly shut up! You will attract the attention of the monste-”
As she was speaking, a shadow completely covered her trembling body.
Slowly turning her head, she saw the figure that was shielding her from the sun.
[F-rank monster.
Lizardman]
“F*ck!”
She immediately started running away, her steps slowly made their way through the mud of the swamp, while, screaming for help as if she was a normal civilian, Claire was in a state of complete panic.
” teaacheer, heelp mee pleeasee”
“Stop trying to flee, remember what I have told you about them.”
‘Them?’
Lizardmen, they are a species that inhabits many of the swamp dungeons all over the world.
It is easy hunting them in party because of their low mobility in the mud, just like our, but it is extremely difficult for a mage to take them on alone.
Always trying to close the distance, the monsters won’t leave mages a second to charge up their spells.
And the way to overcome that is…
‘Sh*t! I wasn’t listening, i got bored in twenty seconds and was trying to cut my fingers with a blade of grass’
‘Aghh, damn it, me of the past you fricking idiot’
The girl hopelessly run around for a full quarter of an hour, while Hans watched her improvised movements to avoid the attacks, before reaching the conclusion that she couldn’t continue like this.
The lizard man’s skin was quite tough,
And its teeth were the real deal, not to talk about their extra limb attached to their backs, the tail.
The only way to defeat them was by taking advantage of their weakness, their short arms and legs.
“That’s right, the correct way to kill them.. I remember it now..”
The monster swung its tail at her ankles, lifting her up from the air and making her lose balance.
She was falling to the ground, and having no other means to attack, the monster opened up its disgusting jaws and tried to swallow her head whole.
‘This shitty monster! I knew you would’ve fallen for it’

(Tier-1 spell) {wind bullet}
Shot from such a close distance, the current of wind entered the monster’s mouth and came out right behind its neck, piercing through its flesh and bones.
‘I, I did it!!! Yaaay, hahah I’m so awesome, I bet that looked super cool right? So? What will teacher think of me?’
She turned her head, watching the branch of the tree were Hans was standing, but strangely, he wasn’t there anymore.
‘Huh? Did I get the wrong tree?
No, it shouldn’t be.
Then where is h-‘
“Bonk” a little branch of wood hit her head.
“Aaarghh, who is the fu-
She watched behind her shoulders, and made it in time to see Hans’ face before correcting her phrase.
fu-funny person who hit me”
“What the hell do you think you are doing? Why did you even get so close to that monster, if I wasn’t ready to step in maybe you could’ve died!!”
“But teacher you were the one to tell me how to kill the-
“Bonk”
“Aaargh, teacher don’t hit the same spot twice that’s unfair”
“I just told you that they can only attack with their tails and teeth, not that you should almost get eaten alive”
“Wasn’t the hidden meaning that I should take one attack, bait the other, and kill the monster?”
“No! Who the hell would think like that, it’s too reckless, I meant you should’ve ambushed it and taken care of its tail so that the monster wouldn’t have anything but its bare bites.”
“Ohh, that does actually make sense, I’ll go try right now”
A bit of time passed, she attempted to kill eleven lizardman, and two times, Hans had to rescue her because she acted before thinking.
The first time, she cast her spell on the opponent while two other monsters were just beside it.
And the second time, she threw a wind bomb towards the monsters to kill them, and in the process, she hit the fire camp right beside them, setting her own hair on fire and burning some of them.
And finally, after the twelfth attempt.
[ congratulations! you have levelled up, current level 25, you are now eligible to create the second circle.
Your level won’t rise unless you manage to advance.]
“Finally, the second circle!
Two years.. it has been two years since I’ve stepped into the first circle, now I am finally able to wander forward.
I am not bound by my dad’s rules anymore.
I’ll be able to become an high ranking awakened, not to mention second tier, I’ll attain the seventh circle before reaching eighteen!”
“Calm dow, you haven’t even advanced yet”
Commented Hans, shattering all the greatness in her speech.
“Teacher you didn’t have to do me like that, you know I don’t mean it anyway”
“Yes yes” Hans waved his hand, signaling her to follow him.
“Since we are done with this then let’s get out of he-
“Teacher? Why did you suddenly stop speaking?”
“It seems like leaving an uncleared gate would be quite dangerous, since the boss has come here of his own accord, then let me send him to hell.
Hans’ senses, even if quite inhibited from the burden on his body, were still able to perceive the approaching enemy.
Forty if not more monsters were quickly approaching them at quite the fast pace, and amongst them one emanated a different aura.
Swiftly walking on the mud without falling down into it, they rushed towards the two humans.
Hans and Claire could finally see the monsters.
“Teacher I don’t think I can take care of them”
“I know, I’ll do it”
‘Finally! I can see how strong he truly is, even if it is an ambush, it takes me about three minutes to kill a lizardman.
Dad said he is a passing mage, meaning he should be at least a fourth or even fifth circle.
Judging by the spells he cast without chanting, his tier is five.
But…
‘I am crippled, just not completely’
If I take that in consideration..
Ok, I’ll take it as a loss if it takes him less than ten minutes to finish them off’
‘Hm, is it forty two? Forty three counting the boss, I guess that I’ll need something bigger for him, he is around E-rank after all.
Okay, I’ll do it like this!’
Done with his planning, Hans took a couple of steps, leaving back Claire.
He raised both his arms laterally, laying down the {fire arena}, and then started casting a spell.
One after the other, spheres of fire formed in the air, finally reaching forty two.
Only then, Hans brought both his hands forward, casting a single last spell.
(Tier-3 spell) {fire javelin}
As soon as he finished casting an immense flame lit up the sky, acting as a second sun, soon, it descended, pulverizing the monster to smithereens.
In the midst of the explosion, as the monsters shattered into pieces of rotting flesh, Claire couldn’t help but admire it, and acknowledge how stupid she had been comparing herself to Hans.
With all she had witnessed, one question was bound to arise:
“Is he really.. a crippled man?”
‘Thirty seconds, that is all it took him.
In that span of time.. would I have been even been able to kill one of them?
This is all while injured? Who are you kidding, if this is him when injured, then what is he when at peak condition? A high ranking mage?’
“Okay, let’s go” said Hans bored.
“Wait! Shouldn’t we at least take the mana stones?”
‘I get leaving behind the monsters’ corpses because they can be difficult to sell while we’re inside the academy.
But if there are any of them, the mana stones are still worth a lot’
“Oh, that’s right, then let’s briefly search for them and return quickly”
Said Hans.
‘Had he really just forgot about them? What would you even raid these gates for if not for mana stones?’
‘From when money haven’t been a problem, I always forget to search for mana stones since I only go inside gates to level up’
In fifteen minutes, they managed to dig up two F-rank mana stones.
Really lucky considering that the odds of finding them are about one every fifty for normal monsters.
“Catch!” Said Hans, throwing her one of the two to her.
“There is no need for this teach” said the girl looking at the stone in her hand.
‘You have killed all the monsters, how could I be so shameless to take what’s yours.’
“I’m sorry teacher, I can’t accept something so precious and valuable”
“Don’t worry about it, I have plenty of these and I don’t even need them, just offer dinner to your classmates or something, if you don’t want it you can throw it away”
“Well then, if you say so..”
They headed back to the buildings, and bid themselves farewell before going their separate ways.
‘But… if he has plenty of them.. why didn’t he also give me the other one?”
