Chapter 1007: I can see you
“That third brother of mine…” Penny groaned as she massaged her nape, reaching out for the master bedroom door knob. She paused, stretching her neck until she heard it crack.
A satisfied hiss escaped her as she felt the tension in her neck release with that crack. “That’s more like it,” she mumbled, twisting the knob and pushing the door open.
As soon as Penny opened the door, her eyes fell on the person sitting up on the bed. Zoren had his back against the headboard, holding a tablet in his hand as if he were reading something. When he heard the door open, he slowly peeled his eyes from the dim, warm light of his screen to the person by the door.
A beautiful smile turned up on his face the moment he locked eyes with his wife. “You didn’t kill him, did you?” His voice was soothing and calm. His smile was so charming it was melting her heart.
For a moment, Penny was mesmerized. The curtains were partly shut, but the little natural light still made her husband look warm and… majestic.
“Wow,” she breathed out. “That’s my husband.”
Zoren’s brows rose as he tilted his head to the side. “Penny, are you okay?”
“Ah?” she snapped back from her trance and smiled. “Yep! He’s still alive. It’s not like murder is an option.”
Penny casually stepped in, closing the door behind her before skipping over to the bed. But instead of jumping beside him, she went over to the other side where he was and sat down on the floor.
“Why are you there?” he asked, tapping the space beside him. “Cuddle with me.”
She shook her head. “I just wrestled with my third brother on the lawn.”
“We can change the sheets later. Is that a problem?”
“But you’ve just recovered from yesterday, so I don’t want whatever germs I picked up outside to cling to you. Don’t worry. I’m still here!” she grinned, her face brightening up. “That damn brother of mine — tsk. It’s his fault I can’t hug you right now. You should badmouth him.”
Zoren frowned a bit because all he wanted right now was to hug her. However, arguing with her wouldn’t help since he knew how stubborn Penny could be. He reached out and touched the tip of her nose, which was smeared with black ink.
“That’s his art,” she complained, hissing as she thought of it. “Surely, that brother of mine never grew up. How could he scribble on someone else’s face, right?”
“Right.”
Penny was about to complain more when she abruptly shut her mouth. “Renren, when I complain, you should too.”
“Oh, right.” Zoren nodded. “Let’s do it again.”
“Okay.” She cleared her throat. “Surely, that brother of mine never grew up. How could he scribble on someone else’s face, right?”
“How dare he?”
Penny raised a brow at him before mischievously nodding. “I mean, look at what he did!? He did this before when we were kids, but now? Upsetting!”
“Unforgivable…” Zoren shook his head, sighing. “Scolding is not what he deserves, but a strict straightening up.”
“Right?!”
Zoren studied the mischievous look on her face, noting the clear signs of irritation mixed with mischief. Who would have thought those two combinations weren’t so bad? She looked like a fox. A very mischievous one.
“He’s lucky that he’s my brother,” she continued. “If not—”
Penny punched her palm and blew the stray hairs falling on her face. “He’d be dead meat.”
‘Sometimes… she’s scary,’ he thought, observing the brief anger that flickered in her eyes, as though she had just thought of three ways to silence Slater. ‘Though I don’t doubt what she’s saying.’
“Did he think that scribbling on my face would stop me from slaying?” she scoffed, snapping her sharp eyes at Zoren. The second their eyes met, her expression switched from anger to cute. Penny flashed him a pretty smile, cupping her face while propping her elbows on the edge of the bed.
She fluttered her eyelashes coquettishly, sporting her most charming smile. “Over my dead body, right?”
“Right.” He nodded, unable to stop a short chuckle from escaping him. “The writing on your face isn’t enough to hide your beauty.”

“No, no,” Penny shook her head, straightening her back. “Renren, you don’t understand.”
“Hmm?”
“What I’m saying is the truth!” she exclaimed, intuitively instilling in his mind, heart, and soul that she was the prettiest. It was a habit Penny had picked up since living with him. After all, she wanted her husband to have a clear vision of his wife.
He had to know that she didn’t have bad angles or sides.
She was the best.
She should be… in his eyes, mind, soul, and heart.
This was brainwashing!
“I’m not just saying this to impress you or anything!” she continued, making his brows elevate. “I know you can’t see the scribbles on my face and this black nose, but it’s not actually very bad!” — though it was bad enough that she wanted to break Slater’s fingers earlier.
With this blank ink on her nose, she looked like an aggressive, small dog.
“If only you could see clearly, you’d be saying, ‘Wow… my wife doesn’t have bad angles. I’m so lucky!'” she added, shamelessly; the very example of why Atlas called her pretentious.
Just because her husband had bad eyesight — how could she shamelessly say all of this with a straight face?
The corner of Zoren’s lips curled up into a smile as he touched her cheek with the back of his hand. “Wow… my wife doesn’t have bad angles. The Heavens haven’t forsaken me.”
“Renren, what are you talking about… huh?” Penny trailed off as lines appeared between her brows. She studied his eyes, only to notice that his abnormally dilated pupils seemed within normal range.
“Haha.” Zoren let out a shallow laugh, apologizing to her brothers in his heart because he couldn’t play along for more than ten minutes. Leaning in for a short kiss, he drew his head back a little, their faces only a palm’s length away from each other.
“I can see you,” he breathed out, smiling. “Very clearly… finally. And God, my wife is gorgeous.!”
