Chapter 1013: I hate you
“I think it’s just right here…” Patricia hummed quietly as she bent down, rummaging through her father’s desk. “So many papers…”
Patricia felt easily irritable, finding the papers she needed to see but struggling to navigate through the unnecessary documents before her.
“What is this?” she mumbled, checking the document that had caught her attention. “Settlement payment of…”
Her brows rose as she read the amount on the document. “What? They got this much money, but they froze my account?!”
Furious, Patricia moved on to check other documents, which were mostly settlement payments for some of their family’s debts. If one were to count them, the total could reach a hundred million!
A hundred million!
If only she knew that their debt was bigger than that.
“These people…” her voice shook with rage, her hands trembling as she saw the staggering figures. “I knew it. They were just doing this to make me feel bad. It must be Brother Theo’s idea!”
If they had this much money, how could they cut off her lavish lifestyle? It wasn’t like she was spending hundreds of millions a day. Even tens of millions were hard to spend since Patricia already had almost everything she needed and wanted.
“I can’t even buy a dress that costs just a few hundred thousand…” she hissed, feeling even more bitter. “Forget it. They better not blame me for what I’m doing since they keep making my life miserable.”
Patricia glared at the documents, tempted to shred them into pieces or burn them. Why would she care about all of this? But then again, doing that would leave evidence.
“Tch.” She rolled her eyes, continuing to search for a particular document. When she checked all the other drawers, her eyes fell on the last one, on the other side.
Just then, Patricia remembered a memory from some time ago when she had surprised her father in his home office. When Patricia had stepped in, her father was reading a document sternly, which he had placed on that side of the desk. She had asked him out of pure curiosity, and he had answered that it was nothing.
But she knew that whenever her father said “nothing” in that manner, it meant the document was important.
“I think he keeps the important documents over there…” she trailed off as she snuck to the other side of the desk. There were two drawers, and the first one she opened, she quickly checked the folders, skimming through them.
Patricia had only one name to find: Penelope Bennet.
“Penelope… Bennet… Bennet… there’s nothing here,” she frowned deeply and sighed, clicking her tongue as she placed all the papers back inside. “It’s probably in here.”
Not losing hope, Patricia got up to check the upper drawer. This time, she didn’t take everything out, just lifted the tips of the folders.
“Where is it…?” she wondered to herself, stopping when she caught something. It wasn’t Penny’s name that was on it, but Prime Group. Her eyes lit up, as that was linked to Penny’s name. Her lips curled up slightly as she was about to pull it out when she heard Theo’s voice.
“Patricia?”
Patricia froze in place, wide-eyed. For a second, her heart pounded out of her chest, and her breath hitched.
“Patricia, what are you…” Theo, who had just come into the home office, trailed off as he furrowed his brows. He slowly closed the door and approached the desk where Patricia was. “Patricia.”
“What?!” Patricia suddenly barked at him, straightening her back. At the same time, her leg pushed the drawer closed.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, studying his sister, who was standing behind the desk.
Patricia hissed, clicking her tongue. “What do you mean, what am I doing here? This is where I live!”
“This is Dad’s study room, and you shouldn’t be here.”
“Why can’t I be here?” she scoffed. “I always come here, and never once did Dad tell me not to. In fact, he loves it when I come in here.”
“But Dad isn’t here, Patricia,” he remarked. “You know that he and Mom went out to dinner together.”
“…” Although she managed to maintain a strong front, Patricia could tell that Theo was looking at her with doubt and suspicion. ‘Why is he looking at me like I’m a criminal? Hah! If anyone should be upset, it’s me! Or maybe he’s looking at me like that because he doesn’t want me to see that they still have so much money left?!’
“Patricia.” This time, Theo’s tone was stern. “Let me ask you again. What are you doing here? Tell me the truth, and I’ll pretend that I didn’t see or hear anything.”

“Hah!” Patricia was insulted. “Are you out of your mind? I told you, I’m here because I live here. If that isn’t enough, I’m here because I’m looking for a hairpin I bought in Paris!”
Her mouth twisted with equal fury and dismay. “Brother Theo, I know we haven’t been getting along these past few years, but do you really have to make me sound like a thief? What am I going to steal? A piece of paper? And then what? What am I supposed to do with a piece of paper, huh?”
“Goodness! This is nonsense. I wouldn’t have to find it myself if only we had maids here!” She slapped the desk slightly as she walked away, stopping in front of her brother. Her eyes were filled with rage and disappointment, a look that made one wonder just how wide the gap between them had become.
She scoffed at him one last time and grumbled, “I hate you. This is all your fault, so don’t blame me if I can’t respect you anymore. You can’t even do that to me,” before bumping her shoulder against him and striding off.
Theo closed his eyes, winced a little, and sighed heavily. Making her feel that way wasn’t his intention. Although his remarks had said otherwise, he had to admit he hadn’t been careful with his words. Looking back at the door, he tried calling her, but she had already slammed it shut with a bang.
Another deep exhale escaped him. “I can’t even talk to her properly anymore,” he mumbled before arching a brow and looking back to where Patricia had been searching for the hairpin.
Curious, Theo walked to the desk where Patricia had stood previously and opened the drawer. He took all of them out, only to stop when he saw the agreement documents between the Miller Company and Prime Group.
Deep lines appeared between Theo’s brows, shifting his eyes to the shut door.
