Chapter 1015: everything under control
Theo breathed out heavily as he placed the file on the desk. He shook his head, taking a small sip from his glass of whiskey before gazing down at the file again.
[Theo Miller, you forgot this. Rule number one: a single piece of paper or document can ruin your life. So, keep everything safe and don’t let others take hold of it, even if it’s family.]
Another deep exhale escaped Theo as he was reminded of Penny’s warning before they parted ways that day. Theo, after all, had forgotten a piece of paper, which was so reckless of him. He thought he missed it or just didn’t notice it falling out of excitement. Hence, he just thanked Penny again and left, telling her that he would keep that in mind.
“A piece of paper can ruin your life,” he whispered to himself. “I know that.”
Not just in business, but in many parts of life, a single paper could change someone’s life or situation. Even though many things now are digital, these hard copies were still just as important. It wasn’t like this piece of paper could ruin the deal they had with the Prime Group.
It was just a copy of their agreement.
Still, when he saw it earlier, he was suddenly reminded of Penny’s warning before they parted ways.
“Rule number one,” he whispered. “Keep everything safe and don’t let others take hold of it.”
It wasn’t like Theo was doubtful of Patricia. His sister wouldn’t just try to sabotage their family, right? No matter how maddening Patricia had been acting and how hateful she could be, there was no way she would deliberately cause more trouble for the family.
“Now that I think of it, Penelope is a lot more lenient than I thought she was. I thought she’d be more arrogant,” he muttered to himself, reminded of their experience not long ago when they closed the deal with Penny. “Wow. I guess people like them… are really on a different level…”
Theo trailed off as he realized that Atlas had been acting that way even before everything. He was just like Zoren, unbothered and untouchable. Even when others tried to drag him down, Atlas never lowered his head and kept his back upright.
A bitter smile dominated Theo’s face. “I can’t believe I’ve been in competition with that guy for years. Even if he took me seriously, it’s not like I had a chance.”
Bitterness swelled in his heart as he thought about how foolish he had been. Even when he started managing the company, he had always eyed Atlas and tried to compete with him. Theo was so busy competing with Atlas and looking in his direction that he unknowingly neglected himself. He only realized it when he started having problem after problem, eventually needing Atlas, only to be rejected over and over because of Keith Miller.
“Never mind that, Theo Miller.” Theo shook his head, slapping himself once to wake himself up. “There’s no need to dwell on the past. Right now, we’re being given a chance to do things right. You can’t screw this up.”
Otherwise, the Miller family would be nothing, and their only wealth would be debt.
This was their saving grace — a miracle.
“Don’t think about this anymore,” he told himself. “Penelope Bennet already promised that she would guide the Miller Company, and with her behind the scenes… it’s going to be different.”
Theo nodded to himself, his eyes falling on the file. The side of his mouth hooked into a relieved smile, almost teary-eyed because he couldn’t believe it. Not long ago, he was mentally preparing himself to declare bankruptcy. In fact, he was already thinking of ending things due to the high level of stress.
Penny had come at the right time, like a knight in shining armor.
Theo reached for the folder and hugged it securely. “I can’t let her down. I can’t let this family down. She wants me to focus on the operation. This time, I’ll do it right.” Determination shone in his eyes, knowing this was the last chance for him and his family. If he messed it up, they were finished.
In the agreement, Penny could kick them out if she saw fit. They were reluctant about it initially, but then again, they had gone to see her with the expectation of selling their dying company. They didn’t expect any position, so having that clause shouldn’t be a problem. Therefore, despite their reluctance, they told themselves not to be greedy.
Even so, Theo wanted to do this for himself as well.
He wanted to do it over again. This time, he wouldn’t be looking at anyone else. Just like Atlas, Penny, and Zoren Pierson — three very successful and wise individuals Theo knew. He should learn from them that, in this world, the only competition he had was with himself.

“Penny,” Atlas called as they were just chilling on the garden porch with his sister and brother-in-law. “About the buyout… are you sure it’s going to be okay?”
Penny was leaning on her husband’s side, eyes on her first brother. “What do you mean?”
“You gave them all the important documents.”
“As I should. We had an agreement, so they should get a copy of it.”
“Did they know they shouldn’t be running their mouths until you announce this?” Atlas asked. “I’m asking because I know the Millers. They have loud mouths. Besides, you mentioned that the little princess of the Millers engaged in a scheme in the past, targeting your husband.”

Penny’s mouth curled into a cunning smile as she was reminded of how she purposely took a piece of paper from the files the Millers would take home, only to give it back to Theo. “Don’t worry about Patricia, First Brother. She won’t know about it.”
“Are you sure?”
“Theo Miller will protect any documents that have my name or the Prime Group’s name on them just because he sees me in a light he created in his head,” she shrugged, hugging her husband’s arm as she leaned closer to Zoren. Her eyes remained on Atlas as she added, “And even if that fails, I still have everything under control.”
Atlas studied his sister’s grin while Zoren gazed down at her proudly.
“Very well.” Atlas nodded in satisfaction, watching his sister and Zoren look in his direction. “I guess I have nothing else to worry about now and can focus on the most important stuff.”
