Chapter 1017: In your dreams!
Meanwhile, in the hospital…
The ever-grumpy Chairman Bennet had to watch Grace set up her own small office in his ward. He gazed at the stack of documents on the table beside the laptop and two other phones. She had three in total, including the one she was using right now.
“Got it,” Grace uttered, shortly hanging up, only to pick up another phone to answer it.
Chairman Bennet watched this young woman for the past hour, and the more he watched, the grumpier he looked. His wrinkled face creased even more as he shook his head in disbelief.
“Alright.” After saying that, Grace ended the call. She snapped her eyes to the bed and smiled. “I’m sorry for disturbing you, Chairman Bennet. Am I being too loud?”
“Yes, you are. I can’t watch this show because you keep talking.”
A helpless smile turned up on her face, but instead of doing something to please him, Grace rested her leg over the other, propping her elbow on her knee and smiling at Chairman Bennet.
“Chairman Bennet, are you curious about what’s keeping me busy at the moment?” she asked, only to see Chairman Bennet snort.
“Why would I be curious?” he spat out. “I’m more curious about how your husband will manage.”
“Hmm?”
“Women should stay home and make a home. You shouldn’t be working so hard; it’s your husband’s job.”
If Chairman Bennet were someone else, he would’ve had a taste of Grace’s sharp tongue. After all, Grace had shut up a few of the men who mocked her for working so hard. This happened more frequently when she was just starting out, but now, she only heard such things from those who didn’t know better.
“Chairman Bennet, in today’s world, women are just as great contributors to society as men,” she said kindly. “As for my future husband, that’s not a problem neither of us should worry about. If he’s a man, he can handle it. Only boys can’t.”
Chairman Bennet smirked. “How about your children?”
“What about them?” She tilted her head to the side. “Their mother is one of the best lawyers in Anteca. What about them?”
“Hmp!” Chairman Bennet grumpily huffed, looking away from this vile woman. “You’re a vile woman! Your poor children would be very sad!”
Grace simply chuckled, brushing him off as she was getting used to Chairman Bennet’s childlike attitude. He might say all these triggering things that could rile someone up, but one should consider his age.
People at this age are the most blunt. They curse people right in front of their faces without care. So Grace didn’t mind this little banter.
“You are young and beautiful,” he said after a momentary silence, still looking away from her with his classic grumpy tone. “Don’t waste your time working so hard and proving yourself in the world. There are more important things in the world than gaining a name.”
“Says the man who would rather make wealth than spend time with his only son?”
Slowly, Chairman Bennet turned his head in her direction and nodded. “Yes, Gracia. Take it from the man who spent his whole life building something without realizing that I wasn’t building, but tearing and ignoring the most important things in life.”
Grace couldn’t help but smile at his remarks. They had these moments too. Ever since she took charge of watching over Chairman Bennet’s protection, there were times when these types of talks would naturally come up. It gave her a clearer view of Chairman Bennet’s personality and habits.
‘I wonder if Penny will ever realize that this man’s love language is actually anger,’ she thought, mentally laughing. ‘When he’s the grumpiest, that’s when he’s the happiest and most pleased. Well, I’m not a doctor, but I’m starting to understand him.’
The truth was, that Chairman Bennet never learned how to express himself. The environment he grew up in was very strict and patriarchal. For him, showing affection was a weakness. That’s how he was raised, and that was what he knew.
Could anyone blame someone who was raised in a certain environment and practiced what they learned because they thought it was normal?
“Hmp!” Chairman Bennet huffed sharply again, clicking his tongue irritably. “If you’re going to work, then go out of here and leave me alone. For the first time in my life, I get to be alone without anyone bothering me. But alas, that son of mine didn’t want to give me peace by sending a workaholic woman like you.”
He kept mumbling, complaining about how Grace was disturbing his peace. Even though this was the first time Grace had gotten this busy, it didn’t seem to matter to him.
Grace chuckled calmly, noticing that her phones were lighting up all at once. She didn’t pick them up, though. Instead, she snapped her eyes back to Chairman Bennet.
“Chairman Bennet, please don’t be angry at me,” she persuaded. “I’m only busy today because a lot of people are inquiring about contract breaches.”
“Huh?”

“What I’m saying is, when people want to terminate a contract without paying a huge sum of money, they naturally call lawyers. The number one question they ask is, ‘Can you find a loophole to terminate this contract?'” She smiled wider while Chairman Bennet’s brows furrowed. “Today, a lot of people are asking the same question over and over again.”
Chairman Bennet frowned. “What are you hinting at, young lady? I’m old, so stop speaking in a roundabout way!”
“What I’m hinting at is that… there will be a huge shift in the business industry in a few days,” she clarified, keeping it vague to keep him intrigued. “A huge one that no one’s seen before, and I’m sure the market is going to go crazy for a little bit. It’ll be interesting for sure.”
She leaned in as she teased, “So, it’s actually very safe here. The world out there is so much more dangerous — it’s scary.”
“You’re scaring me more, young lady!” Chairman Bennet spat, as he could’ve sworn he just saw some horns growing in her shadow. “Why did Penelope hire someone like you? You’re evil! A bad influence!”
“Come on, Chairman Bennet.” She chuckled, teasing him a bit. “I know you like this personality of mine.”
“In your dreams!”
“Haha. Then would you like me to go?”
“Yes! That’s all I need! I don’t need you here!”
“Alright, but I’ll have to call your son to watch over you for a day,” she retorted, making his face freeze. “Should I call him?”
Chairman Bennet slowly twisted his neck and set his eyes on this vile girl. “Young lady, have you met my grandson, Atlas? You should meet him. It would be interesting to see you get angry for the first time.”
