Chapter 1029: Hey, it’s me!

“No, please!” Patricia tried to fight off the man over her, turning her head from side to side. She threw her arms everywhere until the man grabbed them and pinned them above her head. “Stop! No!”
Patricia kept turning her head, kicking in the air despite his growing weight on her legs.
“Stop resisting, I said!” the man yelled through gritted teeth, pressing his leg against hers to stop her from moving. Keeping her hands pinned with just one hand, he reached for his belt and unbuckled it.
“No!” she whimpered, adrenaline rushing through every nerve in her body.
“Stop —”
BANG!
Both of them froze for a second at the sound of gunfire. The man instinctively looked back at the entrance while Patricia’s breath hitched. For a moment, she thought someone had shot her. But when realization dawned on her, she clenched her teeth and pushed the man off of her. His brief distraction allowed her to succeed.
“Hah…” she cried as she crawled away, her body feeling like soft tofu, but she pushed herself. As soon as she caught a thin, crumpled beer can on the floor, she threw it back at him. “Go away! Go away!”
“You bitch —” The man pushed himself up and followed her, grabbing her by the hair, which earned another scream from her. Just as he raised his hand, about to slap her across the head to make her stop, another shot rang out.
BANG!
This time, the man’s eyes widened, and his ears rang. He turned his head to the entrance and let go of Patricia, rushing outside. The first shot might have been a mistake, but the second one? He knew something was wrong.
Even though his boss and another member were outside, he knew he had to help. The man followed the echoes of the gunshots, eventually reaching the nearby kitchen. His steps stopped instantly as he heard someone groaning in pain.
“Boss?” he gasped in shock, his eyes shaking as he saw blood oozing from his boss’s leg. “Boss!”
The man rushed to his boss, bobbing his head as he assessed the situation. “Shit!” he breathed out, taking off his belt to wrap it around his boss’ leg. But before he could, he noticed another figure lying on the floor nearby.
His eyes slowly moved toward it, immediately recognizing who it was despite the darkness enveloping the area.
“Ugh…” The boss’s grunting snapped the man back to reality, and he quickly wrapped the belt around his boss’s leg to stop the bleeding. Once he was done, he moved closer to his boss’s face.
“Boss, what happened?” he asked, but all he could hear was his boss’s grunting. “Boss, what —”
His words were cut off as the boss suddenly grabbed his collar, pulling him down. Gritting his teeth tightly, the boss breathed out in a coarse voice as if his vocal cord were broken.
“He’s there, stupid.”
“Who is…” the man trailed off as he heard another pistol cock. He held his breath and slowly let go of his boss, raising his hands in surrender. “I’m unarmed! Please, don’t kill me!”
The boss ground his teeth, seeing the fear plastered on the other man’s face. “You stupid pervert…” he hissed, disappointed that their last hope had given up so quickly.

Meanwhile, Patricia shivered in the corner of the room. She squeezed herself into the corner as much as she could, almost fusing with the wall. She glanced at the door every once in a while; the man who had been trying to violate her had left it ajar.
Run.
That was what her mind told her. She needed to run; she needed to get out of here. Staying here would only mean death. But no matter what her mind told her, her body wouldn’t listen. Her heart pounded, shaking in her chest; her fear was crippling her.
“It’s too dangerous,” she mumbled, covering her mouth to muffle her cries.
When the man left, she only heard footsteps, then nothing. It was pure silence. One should know that this kind of silence combined with darkness isn’t a good combination; it plays with the mind.
‘They might be waiting for me outside. This could be just part of their games!’ she told herself, nervously eyeing the small gap. ‘Moreover, shots were fired. They have guns! What if they shoot me while I try to escape?’
The more Patricia sat in the dark, silent room, the more negative her thoughts became. She buried her face in her knees, hugging them tightly to keep herself together. When she peeked up again, she mustered the courage to move, even just a little.

She started with a slow crawl, unfazed by the scrapes and bruises on her body. When she reached the door, she reached out and pushed it closed. The creak made her wince as it sounded overly loud in her ears. It was deafening. But once the door closed, she hurriedly crawled back into the darkest corner.
‘Please, please, please…’ she wished in her heart, clasping her trembling hands as tears continued to flood her face. Her anxiety spiked, hoping the men would change their minds. If they saw she wasn’t coming out and weren’t willing to play their sick games, they might leave her alone.
No matter how foolish it sounded, she wanted to believe in something.
After all, she knew no one was coming for her. No one would come to her rescue. Not her father, not her mother, and definitely not Theo. They probably wouldn’t even look for her if she went missing for an entire month.
“Please…” Patricia choked as she caught the knob turning. Her body began to convulse. Her well-adjusted eyes, now attuned to the darkness, instinctively searched for something she could use to defend herself. However, all she found was a crumpled beer can. Still, it was better than nothing.
Crawling to grab the beer can, she returned to the corner and hid herself there. As the door creaked open slowly and loudly, she hid her face in her arm, raising the beer can as though it were a knife.
“Hey —”
“Don’t come near me! Stop! Stay away!” The second she heard a voice, Patricia began swinging her arms with the beer can. “Stay away! Go away! Ahhh!!!!!”
When the person slapped the can away from her hand and grabbed her by the shoulder, Patricia screamed at the top of her lungs. Her eyes squeezed shut, her mouth wide open as she screamed until her throat felt like it was starting to bleed.
“Hey! Hey! It’s me!” the man shook her shoulder and yelled until she stopped. He watched her eyes shake as she searched for him. “It’s me. Shit. Are you okay?”
