Chapter 1036: Overthink
“That—that—that!” Allen reached out to the driver’s seat, slapping Atlas’s arm as he looked back and forth between Atlas and the building outside. “That—that’s the Pierson Corporation.”
Atlas frowned, not sure why Allen was stuttering so much. “It is, I can read it. So, get off so I can park.”
“Sir!” Much to Atlas’s surprise, Allen suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs. “Are you—no, are we… is this our first job-hunting destination?! The Pierson Corporation?! Wow! The Pierson—wow!”
Allen was utterly shocked and amused, barely managing to make proper sentences for the next minute. He laughed in between, peeking at the building outside, and then back at the ice prince in the driver’s seat.
“Wow!” he mused one last time, eyes twinkling as he looked out the window. “I knew it. My boss is the best—he’s amazing! Of course, all other companies are nothing. Even if you don’t have the CEO position here, a managerial position here is just as good as your previous work. Wow! Sir, you’re really amazing and perceptive. This place didn’t even cross my mind!”
Atlas arched a brow and watched Allen absorb this information. Looking at the building past Allen through the window, he frowned.
“Does it bring back some memories from the past?” Atlas asked, putting a stop to Allen’s continuous praises.
“Huh?”
“You mentioned before that you applied here first, but got rejected. I didn’t think much about it before, so only now am I realizing I was the second option.”
Allen gasped when he saw Atlas’s expression grow darker and gloomier. “Sir! It’s not like that! You don’t have to be jealous! I’m with you now!”
“…”
“…”
For a second, an awkward silence followed Allen’s defense as the latter realized how that sounded. But what could he do?! Atlas looked jealous, and his initial thought was to defend himself and save this relationship! This very platonic friendship—or perhaps, just a professional employee-employer relationship!
“I’ll get off now!” Allen announced. Without waiting for Atlas’s response, he jumped out of the car.
Atlas, on the other hand, shook his head while narrowing his eyes at Allen. “His girlfriend would be shocked once he comes out. Poor her.”
And with that, he slowly drove away.
“Gee!” Allen huffed, watching the car’s rear. “Boss! I swear I don’t swing that way! Please don’t get the wrong idea!!”
It was a futile attempt because there was no way Atlas would hear him, but he still tried out of frustration. There was no problem if he liked men, but Allen wasn’t like that! As Allen scratched his head, thinking of ways to salvage his reputation in his boss’s eyes, he noticed the odd gazes on him.
“Eh?” Allen froze, catching some people entering the building and walking past him, giving him odd looks. Shame instantly swelled in his chest as his face flushed bright red.
“He… hehe…” he laughed awkwardly, lowering his head to hide his face. “Goodness. For a second, I forgot that I’m outside the Pierson Corporation and not in Global Prime.”
When Allen turned around and faced the building, he found himself tilting his head back. His eyes followed the building’s height, but even then, he couldn’t see the top of it.
“Wow,” he whispered in awe. “Who would have thought that after almost six years, I’d find myself in front of this same building?”
It was just as glamorous and sophisticated as he remembered it. It reminded him of a little story—Allen’s first rejection that led him to Atlas. If not for that rejection, Allen wouldn’t have found his people and such a kind boss, albeit a weird one.
“Even so, when one chapter closes, another one opens!” Allen clasped his hand to the side, eyes shimmering, reminded of the enthusiastic, fresh grad he had used to be many years ago. “My boss might’ve given up on Global Prime Logistics, but this is a new journey for us.”
People were still looking at him with strange gazes, assuming he was one of those fresh graduates. But he looked quite a bit older for a fresh grad.
Allen nodded to himself as he was about to walk into the building with his heart burning with passion. But after taking three steps, the flame in his heart died out as if it had been extinguished with a fire extinguisher.
“Wait…” he mumbled. “If Sir Atlas and I are going to apply for a job, that means he can take it, but not me…?”
Allen didn’t even know what he was applying for!! He just relied on Atlas! It wasn’t that Allen wasn’t confident, but this was the Pierson Corporation! A heads-up would’ve been nice!
In other words, it would take a miracle for them to get into the same company. Unless…
“Did he ask his brother-in-law to take us in…?” he asked himself, then reviewed Atlas’s personality. “No, he didn’t! I’m sure his brother-in-law wouldn’t even know he was here in the first place!”

The more Allen stayed and over-thought, the crazier he looked in the eyes of others. However, he didn’t care about that anymore. He had so much on his mind to even care.
“What do I do—eh?” Suddenly, Allen stopped as an idea crossed his mind. His mouth stretched into a grin as he squinted his eyes into mere slits.

Meanwhile, Atlas stopped by the parking entrance of the Pierson Corporation building.
Rolling down the window, he flatly said, “Atlas Bennet.”
“Atlas Bennet?” The guard’s intimidating expression suddenly shifted into an overly polite smile. “Executive floor, sir.”
With that, the guard motioned his colleague to raise the barrier gate, sending off Atlas with a salute. Atlas, as usual, ignored them as he drove to the designated parking lot space meant for him.
He had been here once, so he didn’t have a hard time looking for his spot. As soon as he reached the executive parking space, he realized that he had forgotten to tell Allen which floor to meet him on.
“Right,” he muttered, stepping out of the car with his briefcase and his phone in hand. Atlas kept his eyes on his phone when he saw lights beaming at him from the corner of his eyes.
When Atlas turned his head, all he saw was a car driving straight at him.
