Chapter 1043: An irreparable mistake
“Zo — Zoren?!”
William gasped as his proud heart instantly quivered, sinking into the pit of his stomach. He held his breath instinctively, his vicious gaze dilating.
What was Zoren doing here?
That question didn’t only cross William’s mind, but also the minds of everyone in the area. The bustling crowd fell into silence, eyes fixated on the towering figure standing right behind William Pierson. And, as usual, along with Zoren, were Benjamin and some of Zoren’s bodyguards.
“What is going on?” someone from the crowd whispered, afraid that Zoren would hear him despite the distance. “Why did he come down here?”
“Amazing…” Unlike the curious colleague, another person was in awe. His eyes gleamed as if meeting his idol for the first time. “This is the first time I’ve seen the big boss in my three-year career at this company. He is… different in person, indeed. Wow! That aura is definitely only legends have!”
That wasn’t surprising, as Zoren rarely used the main entrance of the building. Why would Zoren use the main entrance when he could just take the parking elevator straight to his office? The only time Zoren would come down here was when he needed to do an inspection, which he did annually. The same went for most of Zoren’s guests; it was more convenient and less of a hassle. This explained why the security in the parking space was more aware and careful about the people going in there. It was also why Atlas got in without any problem.
“What’s going to happen now? I think CEO Pierson just walked in at the wrong time.”
“I guess he’s expecting Atlas Bennet, after all.”
“I want to take a video. This is going to be amazing.”
“Do you want to get scolded and fired? What happens in the company stays in the company. The best that can happen is getting terminated, but if you get sued… good luck.”
“That — that — that…” The security guard at his station felt his knees wobble, his mouth opening and closing, unable to form a coherent sentence. Just moments ago, he had felt pleased that William was ordering his colleagues to escort Atlas and Allen out.
It only meant that the security guard could avoid getting punished! He had already heaved a sigh of relief, but now, with Zoren Pierson here, he felt as though his soul was trying to escape his mouth.
Knock knock.
The security guard flinched when he heard another tap on his desk. He slowly moved his shaky gaze to the person across from his station, his mouth falling open.
“Direc — Director Dean Pierson?” the security guard blurted out, watching Dean smile at him brightly.
What was Dean Pierson doing in their mini-station? First, Zoren, and now, Dean Pierson was here!
“Did you check the data?” asked Dean, smiling brightly at the security guard. “Seeing your reaction, I assume you haven’t done what you could’ve finished in seconds.”
The security guard felt his heart race, his adrenaline pumping through his veins. “I’ll do it now!” he announced under his breath, quickly looking down at the small monitor to check the data. His fingers trembled as he typed in the letters, starting with Atlas’s surname since he couldn’t even remember Allen’s name.
“Ben…” The security guard almost choked, his entire body shaking the moment he saw the name on the list. There were seven Bennets listed in total, and all of them had free access without the need for an access card. Aside from Penny and Atlas, the rest were all guests authorized by the CEO’s office.
Penny and Prime Group were listed as VVIP partners, but Atlas…
‘I’m screwed,’ the security guard felt his heart sink, clicking on Atlas’s name. As soon as he did, Allen’s name appeared as part of Atlas’s separate list.
The security guard would have seen this earlier if he had only checked Allen’s name. This wouldn’t have happened if only the security guard hadn’t judged Allen based on his appearance and treated him like everyone else.
Slowly, the security guard looked up at Dean Pierson, his complexion turning ashen. Dean, on the other hand, nodded. Dean didn’t know what was written on the list, but he was certain that Atlas and even his assistant had been given a free security pass simply because of Penny and Zoren.
Satisfied, Dean pushed himself away from the station, and the smile on his face disappeared without a trace. “I would’ve fired you myself, but I won’t,” he remarked. But somehow, despite saying that, the security guard didn’t feel at ease.
With that, Dean turned around to leave, only to stop and look back at him. “Though, a word of advice, even if I didn’t fire you, that doesn’t mean no one else would.” He then pointed a finger up. “It’s better if you send your resignation before the higher-ups do it for you.”
And the only question left was, who on the top floor would fire the security guard?
The security guard felt his knees wobble as he watched Dean walk away. Staggering backward, he reached out to the desk to steady himself.
“Seven years in this company…” he muttered to himself, his heart filled with dread. “…and my career is over because of a single mistake.”
Again, the security guard set his eyes on the little monitor. His face crinkled as his eyes welled with tears, the veins in his sclera turning red.

‘An irreparable mistake!’ he thought bitterly, slowly turning his gaze back to the scene where Atlas, Allen, his colleagues, William, some executives, and then Zoren stood. ‘Why did they keep saying they’re here for a job interview?! If they had only said what they were really here for, I wouldn’t have had to stop them and ask for a stupid access card! I would have even escorted them in and shown them the way!’
Or rather, the security team might as well have rolled out the red carpet for Allen!
The security guard wept silently in his heart, glancing at the monitor again to double-check Atlas and Allen’s floor. He didn’t misread it. Both men were part of the upper management! In other words, they had the same status as William Pierson, Dean Pierson, and everyone on the executive floors, including Zoren Pierson. Most importantly, they didn’t need access cards. Their faces were the access cards!
