Just like Finn, who sought Penny because she was the only person he thought could help him, Nina also had someone she wanted to confide in. Although she didn’t call Lily to come over, the latter just visited her. After a lot of teasing from the observant Lily, Nina eventually confessed what was bothering her.

“No, I don’t need him to ask for my permission… that’s not the reason. I’m not that shallow, Lily.” Another deep exhale escaped Nina as she shook her head in distress. She had just told Lily about the situation at her place, particularly about what Nina had been doing.

“If not that, then why are you avoiding him?” Lily’s face twisted in confusion. “I’m confused here, Nina. First, you said your boyfriend kissed you out of nowhere, and it felt strange. Then, right after that, you just started to avoid him. Make that make sense.”

Lily leaned forward, resting her arms on the edge of the table. “Nina, I know juicy gossip when I smell one. This one… it reeks of it. Spill the tea.”

“…” Nina pressed her lips into a thin line, looking at Lily pitifully. However, that pity card would never win over gossip — at least, not in Lily’s life.

She huffed and nodded. “Fine, I’ll tell you all about it, but can you please not tell anyone?”

“Nina, I like gossip, but I never spread it. I just listen and then move on!”

“Right…” Nina nodded, knowing that was probably the reason she liked confiding in Lily sometimes. She smacked her lips and shrugged. “The kiss was strange, and I felt a little awkward about it, but the real reason is… I’m not used to living with him.”

“Huh?”

“On his first day at my house, I went to the bathroom to do my morning routine. But when I got in… he was there. He had a towel wrapped around his waist, but he was very naked for me. I felt so embarrassed walking in on him in the shower that I had to rush out.” Nina shared. “That day, I kept telling myself I would apologize and then try to forget about it.”

“But you can’t forget about it?”

Nina shook her head. “If anything, I felt sorry that the house was spotless when I came home. I was moved at first, and then I realized he even cleaned the laundry. He washed my underwear.”

“…” Lily opened and closed her mouth, but no words came out. All she could do was stare at Nina’s reddening face as the latter shared all these embarrassing tales. Nina added a few more, explaining the reason she seemed to be avoiding Finn.

It wasn’t Finn, but more like life. She felt anxious and embarrassed by all of this!

“Though, I’m starting to feel bad too,” Nina sighed once more. “Finn is a smart person, and I’m sure he’s already noticed that I’ve been avoiding him. It’s not like I don’t want him in my place. In fact, I prefer him to be there because I know I’d only worry about him if he’s alone. But… ugh… why is this so complicated?”

Nina buried her face in her palms, whimpering quietly as she didn’t know what to do. Lily, on the other hand, looked up as she summarized it in her head.

“So!” Lily snapped her fingers, watching Nina peek up at her. “About the kiss…”

Nina frowned and dropped her hands from her face. “Lily, did you hear me tell you the other stories? I think I’m telling you more about those things, and we both moved on from that kiss.”

“No, no, we haven’t.” Lily shook her index finger. “Nina, my dearest, I’ve heard you. I’m listening, but it’s just that… there’s something about the kiss that bothers me.”

“Huh?”

“Why did you run away that night?” Lily tilted her head to the side. “You said it yourself. It wasn’t the first time you two kissed, which is understandable since you two are lovers. Goodness. You’re not young, and I’m surprised Finn Davis is willing to wait for the wedding night to pop the cherry.”

“Lily!”

“My point is, you’re used to his kiss. Even if you don’t do it often, I’m certain you’ve kissed more than ten times throughout your relationship,” Lily pointed out knowingly. “So, why did you run away that night? You said it was weird. What do you mean by weird?”

Nina furrowed her brows and thought about what Lily had just said. She pursed her lips, recalling that night Finn had caught her off guard and kissed her. As she did so, her cheeks flushed as she touched her lips, almost as if covering them.

“Because that night, for some reason, his lips… were a little hot,” she whispered, casting her eyes down. “They were also softer than usual — sweet and… thick.”

She recalled that even though Finn’s kiss had been a surprise, it felt rather slow. Or at least, she felt like time had slowed down as her heart thumped loudly in her chest.

Slowly, Nina lifted her eyes and met Lily’s. “I fled because… I liked it.” She pressed her mouth shut again, fighting off the embarrassment creeping up in her heart. “I felt like he did it because he wanted something… something more, and I…”

“And you felt like if you didn’t run away, you’d be carried away as well?” Lily continued what Nina couldn’t finish, watching the latter hide her embarrassment as she nodded. “You don’t know for sure, but you knew that if you stayed even for a second, things wouldn’t end just there. Now, you are bothered by all these little things you probably wouldn’t mind or, at least, wouldn’t cause you to avoid him. Not because you’re embarrassed. But because of all those little interactions in the bathroom, the underwear, the little touches, and the sweet nothings… they bring back that emotion you had that night.”

Nina didn’t answer, but everything Lily said hit the bullseye. It was exactly what Nina felt, though she couldn’t pinpoint it until now that Lily was saying it. After all, that night, when Nina fled the living room to her bedroom, she found herself resting her back against the door with her heart racing like crazy.

“Oh… what a juicy confession. Our Nina is becoming a big girl now!” Lily chuckled happily, clasping her hands together.

“Lily, how did you know all these things?”

“Why? Well, that’s how I lost my virginity! Haha!” Lily laughed out loud while Nina sported a conflicted look. “Don’t worry, girl. What you’re feeling is very normal. Humans are animals, you know?
